Fighter pilot Bennett “Roid-Rage” McKinney has had a crush on one of his squadron mates, Aaron “Tex” Austin, for ages. The snarly RIO is sexy, sarcastic, gay… everything Bennett wants in a man. When Tex has a rare night off from the chronic pain caused by an ejection a few years ago, he reaches for the nearest warm body… which just so happens to be Bennett’s. After a hot night, though, Bennett wakes up alone. Tex starts sending him mixed messages—one minute he wants him, the next he’s cold-shouldering him. Bennett isn’t interested in playing games, not even with the man he’s been lusting after. One night stands are fine, but he’s not getting involved with someone who might disappear at the drop of a hat. But as the men try to resist each other, he realizes he’s not the only one who’s afraid of getting involved with a flight risk… This 20,000 word novella was previously published as part of the Unconditional Surrender Military Collection.

Witt's Conduct Unbecoming set in Okinawa, it's great to return for even this brief novella about Austin and Bennett. As always, Witt writes smokin' hot sex scenes so darn well, and even though the story is brief, you really get a sense of what the two main characters are about. Another winner from Witt!

It's a great appetizer ... now for the meal & dessert!!! Great MC's ... true to life ... Dad was in Air Force & he passed the love of flying on to me. I think a part of the problem for me was the length of the story, there's only so much depth you can pack into a short story, but I felt there was potential for a deeper emotional connection and I was irritated with one of the MCs at first.

SPECTATOR BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2015

Britain's empire has gone. Our manufacturing base is a shadow of its former self; the Royal Navy has been reduced to a skeleton. In military, diplomatic and economic terms, we no longer matter as we once did. And yet there is still one area in which we can legitimately claim superpower status: our popular culture.

It is extraordinary to think that one British writer, J. K. Rowling, has sold more than 400 million books; that Doctor Who is watched in almost every developed country in the world; that James Bond has been the central character in the longest-running film series in history; that The Lord of the Rings is the second best-selling novel ever written (behind only A Tale of Two Cities); that the Beatles are still the best-selling musical group of all time; and that only Shakespeare and the Bible have sold more books than Agatha Christie. To put it simply, no country on earth, relative to its size, has contributed more to the modern imagination.

This is a book about the success and the meaning of Britain's modern popular culture, from Bond and the Beatles to heavy metal and Coronation Street, from the Angry Young Men to Harry Potter, from Damien Hirst toThe X Factor.

The Great British Dream Factory: The Strange History of Our National Imagination, by Dominic Sandbrook

Review Delightfully good ... an exuberant and learned celebration of British culture ... full of love for and fascination with everything from the origins of heavy metal in the metal-bashing industries of the West Midlands to the ruthlessness of John Lennon's and Damien Hirst's lust for money. -- Nick Cohen Observer Not only thoroughly entertaining, but crammed with as many serious insights as a shelf-ful of academic studies. -- Alwyn W Turner The Telegraph Relentlessly entertaining ... unashamed in its concentration on popular culture ... unearthing all kinds of forgotten cultural heroes. -- Daisy Goodwin Sunday Times I read it in less than two days, my attention never flagging ... It's dramatic, perceptive and often extremely funny -- John Preston Spectator I read it in less than two days, my attention never flagging ... Embracing everything from Black Sabbath's guitarist, Tony Iommi, losing his fingers in a sheet metal press to the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, it's dramatic, perceptive and often extremely funny. Books of the Year, Spectator It was hard to find a more convincing read ... a highly entertaining look at everything from The Avengers to Harry Potter that proclaims Britain as the champion of culture, spreading words and songs internationally like no other Books of the Year, Sunday Times Sandbrook's hugely enjoyable analysis of why we continue to punch above our weight in this area ... covers everything from boarding school tales (Tom Brown to Harry Potter) to country house tales (Brideshead and Downton), the works of Tolkien to the 2012 Olympics. Books of the Year, Mail on Sunday Terrific fun ... Sandbrook isn't like other historians ... He heads off down strange, neglected byways, teasing out unexpected connections, with the results often proving far more illuminating - and enjoyable - than conventional narratives ... I defy you not to be swept up in a narrative that's as colourful as it is dramatic. -- John Preston Mail on Sunday Engrossing ... delightful ... a book that relishes an argument and likes to challenge received opinion ... not only thoroughly entertaining, but crammed with as many serious insights as a shelf-ful of academic studies. -- Alwyn Turner Daily Telegraph Witty ... enthusiastic ... a passionate and admirable defence of coach-party musical theatre, large-print historical fiction, wedding reception rock, Orc sagas, To the Manor Born, Arnold Bennett, Billy Bunter and Billy Elliot ... The hot core of his story, though, is made of the most thrillingly unlikely material. -- Matthew Sweet Guardian Splendid ... Sandbrook is always an engaging and perceptive writer and the subject lends itself to his eye for a story and his ability to connect with the reader. This is, after all, a book about the very things that, over the past century, we have most enjoyed, from Hercule Poirot to Sgt Pepper. -- David Aaronovitch The Times Sparkling ... fascinating ... always enlightening ... as usual with Sandbrook, there are some lovely vignettes and incongruous details ... Academic writers could certainly learn something from his lightness of touch and ability to build an argument. -- Joe Moran Literary Review Beautifully written ... wonderfully counter-intuitive ... with an excellent feel for the contemporary pulse and the surprising killer detail ... I, too, have left out loads that Sandbrook has cleverly and incisively included. -- Nick Curtis London Evening Standard A marvellous read ... juicy, irresistible, restoring the past with all its delight, defeats and energy to the ageing spectator ... He delights in the sheer, tumbling crowdedness of British popular culture over the past half century or so, crams in at a terrific pace the innumerable stories of its successes, and lends the status of heroism to his favourite figures. The author catches with infectious excitement the cracking pace and headlong productivity of this teeming crowd. -- Fred Inglis Times Higher Education Supplement Masterly ... lively and stimulating ... He loves to debunk received opinion. -- Robert Low Standpoint A vivid, endlessly fascinating account of the numerous achievements of this country's national imagination. This book is my personal dream factory ... so invigorating and exciting. -- Jessie Thompson Huffington Post Defiantly populist ... Dominic Sandbrook zestfully charts the route that has taken Britain from 'workshop of the world' to 'cultural superpower' ... as Sandbrook rightly insists, 'we still live in the shadow of the Victorians -- Boyd Tonkin Independent Brilliant. -- A N Wilson The Tablet An engaging and very accessible history book about our modern artistic achievements that, provocatively, also debunks some of the very icons it praises. -- Simon Copeland The Sun

About the Author Dominic Sandbrook's most recent book for Penguin was Seasons in the Sun: The Battle for Britain, 1974-79. He is the presenter of a number of highly successful BBC television series, on subjects as diverse as the joys of the Volkswagen and the history of science fiction. He writes reviews and articles principally for the Daily Mail and Sunday Times.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Fiesty and well researched By Bevan Lewis Dominic Sandbrook has certainly proved his credentials as a sound compiler of contemporary history. This book is an enjoyable departure from his narratives of recent British history. The book started out as a 'book of the TV series' to accompany yet another BBC documentary from Mr Sandbrook, however he has really gone the extra mile in producing a 688 page thumper of a volume.Sandbrook either saw this book as a more informal volume (hopefully) or his Daily Mail column writing is making him a bit overconfident in presenting his own opinions. The personal voice is certainly strong, however it makes for a good read in what is a bit of a less serious history. Those who criticise the book should read the preface where Sandbrook promises that conehead cultural historians will "search in vain for the opaque theoretical discussions, invented abstract nouns and interminable references to obscure Continental theorists". The book also has no intention of being encyclopedic. The focus is set very much on the popular and middle of the road. This is an interesting decision as a pure celebration of cultural output and the "national imagination" isn't automatically going to focus on 'low brow' output. Sandbrook in his preface narrows his interest to 'popular culture' although isn't interested in endlessly complex definitions of this term. He quotes United States Supreme Court justice Potter Stewart's definition of pornography: "you know it when you see it". In Sandbrook's case you'll find the Beatles, Agatha Christie and Doctor Who but no Harrison Birtwistle (a modernist classical composer that I admit I had to look up).The focus on the popular would be justified by the hint in the title that part of his argument is that the 'cultural industry' has indeed been seen as a replacement for the mass production of British industry up until the mid-twentieth century. Sandbrook makes surprisingly little of the argument that Britain's "punching above its weight" culturally has been a compensation for the loss of empire and industrial supremacy. He is more interested in the considerable amount of continuity between the Victorian era and today. This well written book is an enjoyable meander through very popular culture. The structure is pretty loose - or a jigsaw puzzle in the author’s words. Part One generally explores the transition from making things to telling stories. Part Two contends that popular culture generally supports the established order, examples ranging from sections on 1960s stars like the Rolling Stones buying country homes (I was never quite sure how this section really fit in although it was interesting) to Harry Potter as a derivation from the traditional nineteenth century school story. Part Three continues in a similar theme in a sense, exploring cultural artefacts ranging from Doctor Who to Lord of the Flies, and how they derive from Dickens and Welles. The fourth part looks at the cult of the individual which Sandbrook traces back to Self Help by Samuel Smiles. The book is deliberately provocative in places. Sandbrook rehabilitates Catherine Cookson for example, commending her raw and real portrayal of the struggles of working class life despite her lack of popularity with intellectual critics, who were outraged at her portrayal. The section which seems to have garnered the most furious responses online however is that dealing with John Lennon. Sandbrook pulls no punches: “Whatever you think of Lennon’s talent, his sheer narcissism is hard to overstate”. His coverage has attracted cries of being “hateful trash”. Yet while I would say that as elsewhere Sandbrook is writing with verve and attitude to entertain to some extent, everything he says is verifiable. He does point out that “far more than any other rock star of his generation, and more even than his fellow Beatles, John Lennon is a figure of colossal symbolic importance”. Also despite Lennon’s motivations often being driven by a desire to be rich and notorious, he does acknowledge that there is a reason for his success - his undeniable talent. I strongly disagree with his assessment of Imagine - it might be hypocritical but as Sandbrook states elsewhere, the public have voted repeatedly in the charts and polls. Its a great song! That said Sandbrook deserves plenty of credit for this book. Much more than a book of the TV series, this is a well researched and informative wander through the pleasures of British popular culture.

Subtitled, “The Strange History of our National Imagination,” it is an examination of British culture. Or, as the author puts it, the shared culture of the English speaking world. Put simply, it describes the way that, after the Industrial Revolution, the country gradually stopped being a success in exporting manufactured goods, but gradually became successful in cultural exports – television, music, the arts and literature. I suspect though, that some of us in England would question whether much of what we make is produced for the American market, rather than our own, especially in terms of television drama. Obviously, though, it has always been the case that British artists have longed to be a success in the States, which is so financially lucrative – the Beatles, “I want to hold your hand,” was written with the American market in mind and drama’s such as, “Downton Abbey,” while popular in the UK were obviously set in a past that appeals to US audiences and confirms their tourist board picture of the country. The book begins with the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics. I recall, along with the author, how media expectations were low and many were taken by surprise at the success of a ceremony which showed the country’s rural and industrial heritage, as well as nods to comedy and homages to music and literature. What is interesting is how well known so many of those featured would be recognised around the world and it is the ‘popular’ that the author centres on. So, he tends to ignore the highbrow (no Bloomsbury Set), but Catherine Cookson, James Bond and Elton John all feature highly. As always, Sandbrook’s style is very readable. He looks at the country from ‘Workshop of the World’ to ‘Cultural Superpower’ by examining the birth of Heavy Metal –seamlessly linking Black Sabbath to the Industrial Revolution and comparing Hollywood movie moguls to the British equivalent , J. Arthur Rank; committed Methodist and the father of British cinema. Along the way, he considers why the States in particular was so attracted to certain films or television shows, so looks in depth at Rank’s assault on Hollywood with “Henry V” for example, or why “The Avengers” eventually proved so popular.Although this book obviously cannot cover everything, this book ranges from fashion, with Mary Quant, through advertising, the strange success of British designed computer games, country houses, school stories, Charles Dickens, Dr Who, soap operas, Ealing comedies, Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, Agatha Christie, Tolkien, H.G. Wells and more… It is, though, in his examination of music that Sandbrook has caused most controversy. From punk rock to glam rock, through heavy metal and the giants of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, Sandbrook looks at the huge success of British popular music.Of course, you cannot discuss British popular music without the Beatles and here, I will immediately say, they are my favourite group of all time and I have read literally hundreds of books about them. The Beatles kick-started the British Invasion, which led to other groups assaulting the American charts with such success and, rightly, the author gives a lot of time to both them and the Stones as the most important bands in the Sixties. Much of his time on the Stones is spent on the drugs bust at Redlands and his musings on the various country houses of each band member. However, with the Beatles there is quite a lot of Lennon bashing. Usually, it is Paul who seems to be targeted in such books, but this is a bit of a role reversal and much of what is written seems both a little churlish and fails to understand Lennon’s character. The Beatles never said they were anything other than ambitious and all the members were open – even in early interviews – about their wish to make money. Paul happily says that he and John sat down to write a “swimming pool,” and makes no secret of their desire to be successful. Both Paul and John were ferociously ambitious and John always took the band seriously, even in the very early days – demanding commitment and ousting even good friends if he felt they were not adding anything to the band (indeed, when Paul’s father forced him into a job, a worried Lennon threatened to throw him out too, unless he gave it up and attended lunchtime sessions at the Cavern – hanging around the gates where Paul attempted to earn a wage and doing all he could to draw his chosen partner back on side). If you are a Beatles fan then you might wish to skip the section on Lennon – if not, then you have been warned that much of it is unfair and unnecessary and most of the criticisms of Lennon he would openly accept in his own lifetime.Overall, I did enjoy this book, although much of it read as a rather indulgent exercise on self congratulation. I did not always get the sense of why so much of British popular culture has been so successful around the world, just that it was. As such, this was a rather mixed bag of tricks, but it was very readable and I learnt much – especially about the early days of British cinema – that I did not know before.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The British Popular Culture Empire By takingadayoff Historian Dominic Sandbrook argues in his new book, The Great British Dream Factory, that once the British Empire began to crumble, Britain found another way to spread its word. This time it was a less forceful method -- popular culture.Starting with Charles Dickens, Britain became a major exporter of literature, music, art, and a little later, movies. And all along, it has been uniquely British culture -- despite the fears of Americanization of British culture, there is no doubt that popular culture such as Dickens' novels, Dr. Who, The Beatles, James Bond, and many more, are British through and through.Sandbrook strays from being strictly a historian in this book more than in his previous works. He indulges in criticism and he makes no secret of his favorites. He makes a vigorous case for the literary worth of Agatha Christie, although he recognizes that his fondness for Dr. Who is probably due to his childhood memories. He defends Andrew Lloyd Webber from his many detractors and seems less than impressed with Patrick McGoohan and The Prisoner. He positively loathes John Lennon. This is a book for a British audience and assumes you are well versed in British popular culture. There is a four part BBC series that he hosts covering much of the same ground -- he says that he wrote the book after the TV series and pretty much started again from scratch. The TV series and book complement each other -- there's much more detail in the book and a lot of material that doesn't appear at all in the series, but not all of the material in the series is on the book. The book is one that you have to read with a computer or tablet at hand to look up musical videos and film clips. It's a highly entertaining and opinionated look at a century and a half of British arts.

Teaching children to read is less about making them memorize rules and more about giving them the tools they need to sound out and spell any word they encounter. By using a multisensory phonics method, you can break the code of reading by introducing your child to the seventy phonograms of the English language. But, as author and grandmother Mary Jo Nyssen knows full well, there is a secret ingredient that is essential to the mix: humor!

An Amazing Circus of Phonograms: Act I introduces children to twenty-two phonograms, all of which are made of two or more letters. Rather than simply list them off, Nyssen weaves the information into silly stories featuring colorful illustrations.

For example, as kids read the comical tales of Countess Mouse’s escape, Courtney Cat’s poultry, Louis Cougar’s soup, and Douglas and his mischievous cousin, they will discover that the astounding letter duo “ou” can make four separate sounds.

Take your child on a learning adventure you’ll both enjoy, and watch as your young reader begins to grasp how to unlock the mystery of the English language.

An Amazing Circus of Phonograms: Act 1 (Volume 1), by Mary Jo Nyssen

Review "In An Amazing Circus of Phonograms by Mary Jo Nyssen and Mike Motz, we are presented with a delightful romp through a literal circus that helps teach children as they also enjoy the blend of vibrant illustrations and breezy fun descriptions that impart a bit of knowledge along with humor. The title seems to this reader to be a little too exact—maybe not as quite a fun as the rest of the book, and I would have preferred something that more clearly evoked the theme and tone of the collection overall. The book is structured well, taking readers on a learning journey that helps them understand an often misunderstood and difficult concept. The overall design of the book is fantastic. The illustrations are conceived well, and have a great feel to them, and they are reproduced well so that each page is really a visual feast. Overall, the writing is the perfect complement to this. We learn rules in a clear and simple manner, while then having them demonstrated in a way that is always slightly silly and memorable. Toad and Goat in their oak boat is a particular favorite, one where the learning isn’t forced but is part and parcel with the story unfolding." 23rd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards. 12/21/15 -Judge’s Commentary. 1st Place winner in Purple Dragonfly Book Awards in category of Picture Books-6 and older, from Five Star Publications, Inc.An Amazing Circus of Phonograms: Act 1 is a book by Mary Jo Nyssen that won First Place in the Purple Dragonfly Book Award. This book tells a story, but within the story, students learn the sounds that certain phonograms make. There are 22 phonograms that are covered in the story: the five differently spelled “er” sounds—er, ir, ur, ear, and wor, and the other 17, sh, ee, th, ay, ow, ou, oa, oy, oi, aw, au, ew, ui, oo, ch, and ea. Each phonogram is written in a different color within the word so that it stands out. This book is the second in a trilogy. The first book, A Colorful Journey through the Land of Talking Letters, introduces the first 26 letters of the alphabet and their sounds. Ideally, parents will start with the first book before moving on to this book. When using this book, parents can simply read it to their children, and through repetition, students will pick up the sounds that the phonograms make. This book is ideal for the reader who has progressed through the first book. The recommended age is 6+. This book is for any child, whether the child is homeschooled or attends school. My daughter is six and learning to read. She enjoyed both the story in this book and the colorful pictures and letters. Later, when we were working together on reading, she recognized one of the phonograms covered in the story and told me that sound had been in the book we read together. This book is very long to read in one sitting. If attempting to do so, your child likely wouldn’t get the full impact of the story and phonogram lessons. This book might be better to read in small pieces, such as a few pages a day. You’ll also want to start with the beginning of the series, especially with emerging readers. Nyssen’s book, An Amazing Circus of Phonograms, makes learning to read fun. Most children will enjoy this book and learn from it, which parents will appreciate. -Product Review by Melissa Batai, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, LLC, January, 2016Foreward Reviews Indiefab Book of the Year Finalist Award for category Picture Books-Early Reader. Winners will be announced June 2016 at ALA(American Library Association) annual convention, Orlando, Florida.

About the Author

Mary Jo Nyssen was born in South Dakota, but grew up in Salem, Oregon, where she and her husband still live today. As a child, she struggled with reading. After she overcame the challenge, however, she grew to love books and even started writing her own poetry. Though she chose a career in nursing, Nyssen never strayed far from her love of words. As a mother she decided to take a community college class on a multisensory phonics method. After using it to successfully teach her daughters, she soon gained further expertise by helping other children, parents, and teachers.

In 2009, when Nyssen was teaching her preschool-age granddaughter the alphabet, she began creating silly rhymes to make the learning process more fun. These stories became her first book, A Colorful Journey through the Land of Talking Letters, and transformed her dream of being an author into a reality.

We read 2-4 pages a day. Each page is a mini story of its own centered around a sound. We started it as soon as we brought it home! I look forward to the next one!

Home of one of the world's most ancient and enduring civilizations, Iran has been at the nexus of world history for the past three thousand years. Situated at the crossroads between East and West, it has been marked by its encounters with other cultures and has influenced them with its own. From paradise gardens and Persian carpets to the mystical poetry of Rumi and Hafez, Iran's contributions have earned it a place among history's most refined and sophisticated societies. In this book, Richard Foltz traces the spread of Iranian culture among diverse populations ranging from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean, and along the Silk Roads as far as China, from prehistoric times up to the present day. He emphasizes the range of contributions Iran has made to world history by highlighting the roles of key figures such as the ancient empire-builders Cyrus the Great and Darius I, the medieval polymath Avicenna, and early modern Mughal rulers such as Shah Jahan, who built India's celebrated Taj Mahal. From the establishment of the Pahlavi dynasty by Reza Shah in 1925 until the 1979 revolution under the charismatic leadership of Ayatollah Khomeini, Iran embarked on a modernization process that led to the spread of literacy and the growth of the women's movement, making it one of the most advanced nations in the developing world. Lack of political freedoms has continued to frustrate many Iranians, however, and the country is often seen as an international pariah in the West. Iran today is rarely treated well in Western news headlines, despite remarkable achievements by individual Iranians in a wide range of fields. Encompassing religion, literature, the arts, and politics, Iran in World History offers a comprehensive history of one of the world's most influential civilizations and offers nuanced examples of its continuing role in the world today.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. A remarkable distillation of 2,000+ years of the history of one of the world's most important nations and cultures. By lyndonbrecht This is a simply remarkable distillation. Foltz has written the best volume so far in this innovative series. This book is an extremely good introduction to Iran. It covers two thousand years of history of one of the world's great nations, a tangled and complex history, and does it very well. In addition, it covers recent decades fairly and without bias, covering the Islamic Republic (chapter 8) with flaws included. Readers interested only in current world issues could read the last three chapters and gain important understandings, although the deeper history will facilitate understanding. There are plenty of crucial facts--a quarter of the population is still Turkish and barely half speak the national language as a natal language. The origin and distinctive features of Iranian-style Islam ae covered very well. One aspect of the book is that while Iran is a nation with definite borders, historic Persian culture extends well beyond Iran's borders and remains influential to this day. Historic Persia expanded and contracted, but often included large areas of the Caucasus, what is now Afghanistan and Pakistan, and chunks of Anatolia (now the heartland of Turkey). The first three chapters discuss the rise of Persian culture and creation of the Persian empire and several dynasties, as well as relations with the Greeks and Romans. There was a lot of war but also mutual cultural influence. The Parthian rulers used Greek for their coins and were influenced by Greek culture. In 529 when Justinian closed for good the Academy in Athens, a number of scholars sought refuges in Persia, setting up a long-lasting intellectual influence that lasted into Islamic times. There is also intriguing discussion of the rise of Manichism, and--later in the book--of the origin of the Bahais, and other religious matters. Zoroasterianism is also discussed at some length.Chapter 4 covers the arrival of Islam but note the title: "The Iranization of Islam." Persian culture has had huge influence. These are complex and controversial matters, but well worth reading about. Chapter 5 covers the arrival of Turkish groups, of which one or another ruled Iran from the 1100s through the early 20th century. The book rather glosses over the Mongol era, which some books on Iran see as the most devastating event the country has ever experienced. Also note: some of the names of tribal groups have changed spelling, reflecting recent scholarship, so they may differ from what readers remember.Chapter 6 is important, covering European dominance (Britain, Russia primarily) 1722 to 1925. Some of the roots to current problems may be found here. Chapter 7 covers the Pahlevi years, and the last chapter discusses the Islamic Republic. The closest the book comes to bias is describing the Shah, the Mosssadegh mess and the Shah's repressive regime.

HOLLYGRAM MAG: "Do you love fantasy fiction? 'Kingdom Tales' is just what you need.'' When the eagle king, Hasha, came home from a long battle against the bats, he found out he had missed his family so much. The birth of his new twins made him to give up fighting, and he appointed a new general, Uzza, to help him run the kingdom. General Uzza had a secret plan of his own. Behind king Hasha’s back, he engineered the execution of king Hasha’s close friend, Kayel, who he thought would be an obstacle to his secret plan. When general Uzza’s plan was ready, he stormed king Hasha’s palace with the help of rebels terrorizing king Hasha’s kingdom. General Uzza managed to turn the kingdom officials against king Hasha, and they exiled the king to a kingdom they thought he wouldn’t survive living there. Luckily for Hasha, he survived. He stayed in the kingdom and made new friends. When the time came, he started planning of way to get back his kingdom, even at the expense of working with his old enemies, and giving up secrets no one ever knew about.

By Keci I received this in exchange for a review:That said, it is a fantastic story that I could not stop reading.I read an enormous amount and it is something I have a passion about. It has been a while since I have read something that I did not put down until I finished it.When the whole series is done it has the potential to be great. The author tells a compelling story and writes in a style I really enjoy. He paints a very good picture of the life in this book. I felt like I was there with them as the plot advanced.I found the ending to be at a good stopping place for him to advance it easily into another book.I only wish it was longer. He could have fleshed it out a bit more as some of it is superficial. But, that said I still really enjoyed it.If you have the Kindle book platform I definitely recommend you get this.I can not remember if there is a limit on it or not.But it is worth using one of the slots if there is. I love fantasy books and intrigue.I guess I would sum it up saying it has tremendous potential to be something really good if he finishes out the series as he is going.

By Amazon Customer I received this in exchange for a review:This is an excellent story which I found very interesting and easy to read. Although I am not a fan of fantasy fiction I enjoyed this book and am happy to have had the opportunity to read it.The author has an excellent writing style and I enjoyed very much getting to read this book. It has such a lively style that I found it very entertaining. The book moves so quickly that I felt that I was there with the characters as I read it.The point of ending of this story is a good place for Charles Umerie to begin another book...making this into a series.I wish it had been longer, because it would have made the beginning of an excellent series. He could have given more details in his writing...more description. This being said, I really enjoyed it.I guess I would sum it up saying it has tremendous potential to be something really good if he finishes out the series as he is going. It is a great book for the kindle format!

By Jennifer LaRue-Ibrahim I found the book Kingdom Tales to be intriguing. I'm not much into fantasy world tales and this one took me a couple of pages to get into the understanding of it, after that I was hooked. I liked learning about the different worlds between the Eagles and the Bats and the battle that had just ended between them. This is an interesting tale that, if you are into this type of story line, keeps you interested and wanting more. I will continue to read this book to find out all the twists and turns that it may take me through. Most definitely, if you are into fantasy fiction, this is the book for you.I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion and is based solely on my experience with the product.

One of the first things children learn is the names of the basic shapes. These are also sight words and one of their first math skills. Since they know their shapes when they are developing pre-reading skills, it is the perfect time to begin reading these sight words. However, children, at this point, do not have a complete grasp of letters, sounds and words. These level 1 books provide opportunities for sight word exposure using their prior knowledge of the basic shapes. Single words are repeated on each page allowing children to learn these words gradually using picture support. These are books that they can “read” before they can actually read. Level 1 books prepare kids for the harder work that comes in levels 2, 3, and 4.

The telling of stories is a tradition in itself within the Liberian community. It is a skill, one reserved for a special class of people, storytellers. It is a culture within a culture. In many tribes, only trained people or the elderly told stories for educating or entertaining purposes. Anyone can tell a story, but only few can tell it well. This book follows in that regard. The stories range from personal to traditional and folklore. Within each story, the author embeds local customs, traditions and belief systems of various Liberian tribes. Readers will identify with characters on many levels because of the realness of their situations. 6 For A Dozen is a collection of stories from Liberia. It is an important addition to the growing body of Liberian literature written by Liberian authors.

Somehow, in spite of that, they seem to be making it work. Surprisingly, it isn’t work that separates them but family matters and a friend’s plea for help when his partner is kidnapped. Quinn is off to London, while Mark heads for Los Angeles to solve the kidnapping. Then Mark gets called to Paris by Femme of the Division, where things are not as they seem. Quinn, thinking to meet Mark in Paris, ends up coming to Mark's rescue. Back in the States, Mark fights taking time to recover from being shot while events are happening at the CIA that could endanger both Quinn and his best friend, DB. Between family, friends, and Mark, how will Quinn make the opportunity to talk to Mark about moving in together and even starting a family?

Things Happen That Way: The Continuing Adventures of Mark Vincent and Quinton Mann (Mann of My Dreams Book 2), by Tinnean

About the Author Tinnean has been writing since the 3rd grade, where she was inspired to try her hand at epic poetry. Fortunately, that epic poem didn't survive the passage of time; however, her love of writing not only survived but thrived, and in high school she became a member of the magazine staff, where she contributed a number of stories. It was with the advent of the family's second computer – the first intimidated everyone – that her writing took off, enhanced in part by fanfiction, but mostly by the wonder that is copy and paste. While involved in fandom, she was nominated for both Rerun and Light My Fire Awards. Now she concentrates on her original characters, and recent novels have received honorable mention in the 2013 and 2014 Rainbow Awards. A New Yorker at heart, she resides in SW Florida with her husband and two computers. Ernest Hemingway's words reflect Tinnean's devotion to her craft: Once writing has become your major vice and greatest pleasure, only death can stop it. The characters are so real and well developed. They never blend into one another. The supporting cast is also great. The plot never gets stale.Normally this would warrant five stars but I spent the first half of the book thinking I'd made a mistake and bought a book I'd already read. Really! I checked the publication date, my kindle account, my library, and the author's page. Lol.I finally figured out that there was significant overlap between this book and the series about Matheson and Theo. No a bad thing necessarily but I felt a bit cheated. These books are expensive and I expect them to be more than just a change in character perspective. That being said... it was a really good read and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

However, not only has she achieved what readers may have wanted but also she has rocked me to my core with how she's done it so far--and she's not done yet. Because the first two books are so intimately connected, I have once again chosen to review both of them with the same review. That's because despite the fact that Mark Vincent and Quinton Mann have come perilously close to declaring their love for each other at times throughout the first series, both men are from such completely different backgrounds that it took a stroke of genius for Tinnean to show how they could eventually fall in love--by telling the same basic, very exciting, story in both books. In the first, it's from Mark's point of view--an early 40s stunner up from the streets who as a special agent for the mysterious WBIS has a most delightful and often totally unique way of disposing of inconvenient characters. Open, garrulous at times, with a nasty sense of humor but deadly attitude to those who mess with him or those he likes or loves, he leaves a mark wherever he goes (sorry for the pun). The plotline in the first book ends so beautifully that you cannot help but wonder how much of it is a spoiler for the next one.Don't worry, Tinnean has got your back. The second one, from Quinton's POV, not only goes over much of the same ground with the same quotes as Mark's story, but does so in a way that brings out this 39-year-old quintessential white bread CIA agent's personality (reserved) and background (privileged but not snooty) so smoothly that it's almost like the author is a different person. Fear not, in this one Tinnean carries you through the end of Mark's book and plows ahead with an exceptionally surprising twist to Quinton's deeply ingrained WASP persona which will not only leave you with a twinkle in your eye (and a jaw dropping last line), but begging for more.Fortunately, Tinnean is working on it. Love these guys. Yesssss!

Well, now I've read it, thank you! I got the Mark and Quinn fix I desperately needed and got more. For those who have no idea who Mark and Quinn are, go to the author page and just get all of them. This is a blast of a series and its offshoots are just as entertaining and awesome. These two men are so bad-ass they make the rest out there seem meh. Then again, I love M&Q and as my kids say, totally ship them, so there. In this installation, we see a different side of the story with If You're Going Through Hell Keep Going (Mann of My Dreams #1). This story is from Quinn's point of view and clears up a whole lot of missing details from that first book. However, this is also a book where we find the two men kind of reveal their love for each other and there are hints of them wanting to go a step or two further. We read about Quinn's needs and see his softer side. We also read about how Quinn just simply loves his Mark and in the process, paint a softer picture of the killer we know him to be.In this book, we also catch a glimpse of how deadly their families and friends really are. It simply amplifies to the fans how much of action-packed we crave for with just that hint of eroticism.Mann and Quinn fix this truly is, but it is more. If you want to find out what that more is... well, you know what to do.

Readers will be delighted with nine sweet, contemporary romance novelettes in Sweet & Sassy: Hidden Identities. In this charming anthology, you will fall in love again and again. THE BEST OF ME by Paige Timothy Becky is a cancer survivor who has been blogging about her journey. She's shocked to find that Josh, her one-time love and now-famous oncologist, is the main speaker at the symposium she’s been asked to attend. Has fate given them a second chance at a future together, or just a shot at miserably ever after? SECOND-HAND HEARTS by Jo Noelle When Elena sees Chase for the first time, his turquoise eyes and tousled blond hair convince her that she might believe in insta-love. Just in time, her brain takes over, reminding her that her business is in trouble, making the future uncertain—not a good time for love. But being with Chase is as easy as following her heart, until she finds he has a secret big enough to break it. FIRST LOVE, SECOND CHOICE by Lindzee Armstrong When wedding planner Keslee gets asked on a date by her long-lost high school crush, Bryce, everything should be perfect. But Bryce mistakes Keslee for her deceased twin sister, Jadyn. And she doesn’t correct him. Now they’re unexpectedly working together. Keslee knows the charade can’t last much longer, and fears she’ll lose Bryce forever when she tells him the truth. HACKED by Stephanie Connelley Worlton NSA data analyst Samantha Perry never knew being an introverted computer geek could get dangerous until she digs a little too deep into a greedy blackhat’s business, forcing her to change her identity and relocate. She risks everything to try to close the case, but may end up putting a nail in her own casket. And if she doesn’t, Seth, her hot new neighbor, just might. TO LOVE AND PROTECT by Ruth Roberts First Son Daxon Hayward has refused a secret service detail since the day his father was elected President. This time the threat against Daxon is very real, and his father plants an undercover agent to protect him, Lorelei Davis who is capable and beautiful. She’s received her assignment: Protect the First Son, don’t let him know she is an agent, and don’t fall in love. CLOSING TIME by Candice N. Toone Chef Will Morrison can’t help himself after watching Kelsey sit alone at a table waiting for a blind date. When he steps in to save her from being stood up, he expects to exchange dull first-date pleasantries, but finds himself drawn in by her quick wit and spunk. Will hears himself confirming plans for a second date only to realize that she still believes he’s someone else. SINK OR SWIM by Laura D. Bastian Shelly can’t believe she’s fallen for another cheater. The last few weeks at the gym swimming next to Brandon had almost convinced her she could date again. Brandon’s excited to be back home with a career that can finally hold a candle to his twin brother’s success. When Shelly suddenly turns cold, Brandon can’t help wondering if it has something to do with his brother. WRITE AND WRONG by Kaye P. Clark Jon Patterson is burned out. After publishing a series of blockbuster novels under his pen name, he’s hit a brick wall. He escapes to a rural town in Idaho where he meets Abby, the local librarian. She ignites his imagination and quickens his heart. Without the pressure of his pen name, Jon is free to be himself. But will he lose Abby when she learns his secret? UNDERCOVER LOVER by James C. Duckett Agent Johnny Anderson is struggling with an investigation that could make or break his career. However, it’s love at first sight when beautiful and witty Hannah moves into the neighborhood. Will Johnny lose Hannah when she finds out his cover story is a façade? As things get hotter between them, his love for her might endanger her life. This Anthology is a collection of short stories with a clean romance, packed with action and suspense for fans of new adult and adult romance.

As things get hotter between them, his love for her might endanger her life.MY TAKEI had a chance to read an ARC of all NINE (yes, 9) novelettes. I love that they all include a clean romance. I'm going to gift a copy to my 15-year-old granddaughter who, like me, should love the fun variety of stories and locations. Each has its own unique play with the theme of hidden identities--anywhere from the famous author incognito to the cancer survivor to the NSA worker having to go into a version of the witness protection program. The authors range from the established (like Tristi Pinkston with 30 books under her belt) all the way down to Kaye P. Clark whose first published work is in the story. It's hard to say which I enjoyed the most as there were elements about each story that grabbed me. One even made me cry. You can probably guess which one. Maybe. Excellent reading choice. I'm finding that I like anthologies because they give me a chance to read a shorter work by a variety of authors. Some of these I've read before; some I have not read. I will now.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! By Maegan Wright CLOSING TIME-From the first to the last page, the author's words weave a melody of hope, enchantment, and love that leave you with a strong desire (and feeling butterflies in your tummy) to join the characters in their story and stay forever. This story really pulled on my heart strings and had me wishing there were more "Wills" out there. The novel left me feeing both elated and saddened- elated that I had been able to enter such delightful place for several hours, saddened that it came an end. I am a sucker for books that I can relate to and this is one is defiantly that! From the poor girl in the polka dotted dress getting stood up to a sweet, kind hearted man taking a chance and sitting down next to her as her "late date". Read this wonderful love story to find out how this unexpected relationship develops.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. I've only read one, but it was a gem. By Cathy Witbeck Second-Hand Hearts is the story of the unlikely romance of a pawn shop owner and a musician. Jo Noelle has done her research here, you can see yourself in the pawn shop and you come to empathize with Elena struggling with keeping the business open and her desire to make that business into something more. Then you look into Chase’s world of music. You see his love for music, how it touches his heart and influences everything he does yet the fame it’s brought him has had it’s price. From their undeniable attraction to each other to their crazy courtship, this little story is sure to delight readers as if it were a delectable bit of pastry.Cathy Witbeck
