Leaving behind the rural charms of Finnshire, Miss Penelope Fairweather arrives in London with hope in her heart and a dream in her eye. The dowager, no less, has invited her for a season in London, where she will attempt to catch a husband. Thus begins our heroine's tale as she attempts to tackle the London season with all her rustic finesse. Unfortunately, her rustic finesse turns out to be as delicate as a fat bear trying to rip apart a honeycomb infested with buzzing bees. What follows is a series of misadventures, love affairs, moonlit balls, fancy clothes, fake moustaches, highwaymen, sneering beauties, pickpockets, and the wrath of a devilishly handsome duke.

By Amazon Customer I honestly had such high hopes for this book which is probably why i am so disappointed. I love this time period, the story seemed funny yet romantic and different, and almost all of the reviews were positive. I don't know what those readers were thinking! Now, I'm not too much of a time period snob when it comes to the actual writing style ( a little modern phrasing is fine with me) , but I honestly couldn't tell if his was regency England or modern day. Some of the wording and actions were down right unbelievable. Penelope has been sheltered in a small village and basically ignored her whole life (enter wicked step mother), and finds comfort and friendship in a pet goat. she heads off to London at the invitation of her dead mothers best friend, in order to have a season and find a gentleman to marry. She speaks her mind and is a bit quirky ( and accident prone) and a very honest, friendly person. I really thought all of her quirkiness would have been endearing ( and believe that is what he author intended), but on far too many occasions she seemed dim witted and stupid. What made me most upset was that throughout the entire book there would be scenes so heart warming and funny, and you really rooted for Penelope, and then something so ridiculous would happen to ruin it all. It made me so angry. The hero calls her terrible names throughout the ENTIRE book...doxy, dim witted, imbecile, ugly, harridan, "no one will ever want you" etc, even apologizing only to utter the same nasty thing in the next breath. I believe what the author was trying to convey was an endearing, lovable quirky girl from a small country village who falls in love with a domineering duke who has been betrayed in love many times through his life and is not easily trusting. He just wants to protect his family and himself from someone who may seem opportunistic and fights against his feelings for her, only to realize she isn't what he originally thought and his heart knows her own. Well the author totally missed the mark on this one and it will frustrate you to no end push through this book. I would be curious to know the age bracket of those who gave this book 5 stars. I can honestly say that I never even though to, and have never "returned" a book that was $.99, but that was the first thing I did when I finished this book. One, on sheer principle, and two because I knew one day down the road I'd forget about this book, read the description for it and it would tempt me again- And I'd end up throwing my kindle out the window in disappointment!

By mioquilt This is the second book by Anya Wylde and is even funnier than her first one.I love the Regency period, however many of the books in that era always have a very similar plot. This is very different, the heroine Penelope will never be forgotten, she is priceless. Her best friend Lady Bathsheba (who eats men's "underthings") also compliments the story. My favourite character, apart from Penelope herself, is Madame Bellafraunde the modiste. I have never encounered anyone like her in any other regency book that I have read. She made me laugh out loud, I enjoy books that make me laugh and they are not normally books of this era.The highwayman is also very colourful, I wasn't sure that he really existed until he put in an appearance. The story flows easily and I really couldn't put the book down once Penelope appeared on the scene. The plot has a lot of twists and turns and is never dull.Well done to this author, I am looking forward to more books by her.

I loved this book so freaking much! I giggled and sighed, swooned and laughed, got teary-eyed a few times and grinned so much that my cheeks hurt. The characters are completely endearing, I loved each and every single one of them. I have no complaints. This is such a well written, captivating, feel-good story. I could not put the book down and when I had to, I continued thinking about it. I tried to prolong the end because I simply didn't want it to end.I happily admit Penelope into my very exclusive list of favorite books. Where she has, by the way, elbowed her way to the top of said list and plunked herself down among the top 3 All-Time Favorite Books Ever. I recommend this book to everyone who loves a light-hearted romance with a great HEA! It's fun and silly, sweet and heart-warming and such a joy to read! Go... buy it! I dare you to get swept up in the magic that is Penelope.

In an increasingly urbanized world, urban terrain has become a greater factor in military operations. Simultaneously, advances in military technology have given military forces sharply increased capabilities. The conflict comes from how urban terrain can negate or degrade many of those increased capabilities. What happens when advanced weapons are used in a close-range urban fight with an abundance of cover? Storming the City explores these issues by analyzing the performance of the US Army and US Marine Corps in urban combat in four major urban battles of the mid-twentieth century (Aachen 1944, Manila 1945, Seoul 1950, and Hue 1968). Alec Wahlman assesses each battle using a similar framework of capability categories, and separate chapters address urban warfare in American military thought. In the four battles, across a wide range of conditions, American forces were ultimately successful in capturing each city because of two factors: transferable competence and battlefield adaptation. The preparations US forces made for warfare writ large proved generally applicable to urban warfare. Battlefield adaptation, a strong suit of American forces, filled in where those overall preparations for combat needed fine tuning. From World War II to Vietnam, however, there was a gradual reduction in tactical performance in the four battles.

Storming the City: U.S. Military Performance in Urban Warfare from World War II to Vietnam (American Military Studies), by Alec Wahlman

Review “Alec Wahlman has rendered an important contribution to our understanding of the problems involved in U.S. forces fighting in cities. Given the increasing move of the world's population into urban environments, this is an important book for policy makers and soldiers alike.”—Williamson Murray, author of The Path to Ruin and co-author of A War To Be Won, Fighting the Second World War   “The United States is slowly coming to grips with the changing nature of military operations. The romantic image of battles in wide-open plains and deserts is being shattered by the new reality of urban combat. Wahlman comprehensively evaluates each case study and then considers them in total—a solid study. Military officers and cadets will all find this work informative and helpful in understanding the changing nature of military operations. I expect to find this on several recommended reading lists among military branches and services. Political decision makers also need to understand the complexity of fighting in an urban environment.”—Stephen A. Bourque, co-author of The Road to Safwan   “This is a very serious and well executed work. The quantity of knowledge packed into these pages is immense, with conclusions closely tied to the declared purposes of this study and strongly supported by abundant evidence; this book has real value.”—Anthony James Joes, author of Resisting Rebellion and Victorious Insurgencies   “At a moment when urban conflict has replaced maneuver battles and decisive victories in the field as the dominant form of war, Alec Wahlman’s insightful study of city-fighting throws new light on a much-neglected aspect of the past and opens up a loop-hole through which we can peer into a likely future.”—John Gooch, author of Mussolini and His Generals"It is a text for everyone, from general war buff, cadet, grunt, military enthusiast, or military professional--the author's research results adding copiously to our knowledge on how to fight, if necessary, from room to room in an enemy city."--Leatherneck Magazine"Should be required reading for anyone concerned with the future of warfare in the 21st century. . . . Urban warfare has increased steadily in importance, and yet has traditionally been neglected with respect to developing doctrine. This book is a welcome contribution toward shedding more light on the subject."--Defense Media Network"An unexpectedly readable, interesting, and well-written examination of exactly what the subtitle imports. . . . . [T]he book examines how 'transferable competence' and 'battlefield adaptation' were key in capturing each city--and how the ability of the military to accomplish this has degraded over time. . . . The writing is excellent, economical, tactical, and, amazingly, readably technical."--Library Journal

About the Author ALEC WAHLMAN has been an analyst for fourteen years at the Institute for Defense Analyses, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center that works primarily with the Department of Defense. He earned his PhD in military history from the University of Leeds (UK) and lives in Falls Church, Virginia.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. An easy and pleasant read with valuable insight. By John Hamill "Storming the City" is a study of US military performance in urban assault from World War II to Vietnam using studies of Aachen, Manila, Seoul, and Hue. The author finds lessons common to all of these battles. Using a standard format for each battle, the author evaluates the US and enemy forces, command, control, and communications, intelligence and recon, firepower and survivability, mobility and counter-mobility, logistics, and the civilian population. Nineteenth century saw urban warfare mostly occurring against mobs, and the First World War saw little urban combat at all, so the pre-war US military put little emphasis on urban warfare doctrine. Despite this, the US military did well with urban combat in World War II thanks to both a doctrinal and a societal proclivity to adaptation. At Aachen, the best showing by the US military in urban combat, the US Army attacked and captured Aachen despite the being outnumbered by 3 to 1. The city was first surrounded, a vital prerequisite that would be neglected at Seoul and Hue. In the case of Manila, Japanese troops received orders to withdraw only after it was too late. Reading the book, I got the impression that in all the battles discussed, the lower ranks performed well, using creativity and improvisation to solve the unique problems while at Seoul and Hue, the higher ranks failed operationally by not encircling the cities. Notably, in both Aachen and Manila, American troops attacked from an unexpected direction. With increased urbanization and the desire by enemies to mitigate American strengths, the author discusses lessons and looks to the future. The author attributes success to transferable competence in the form of good small unit leadership, an emphasis on firepower, skill with combined arms, experience, and well designed armored fighting vehicles. Adaptation of the troops to urban conditions has been quick and effective. The author dispels two myths of urban combat - the need for superiority in numbers and the assertion that urban warfare is best left to the infantry. In the future, recon, intel, and sensors will be more important than ever, and effective public relations will need to counteract enemy propaganda exploiting civilian casualties - something that the public was less concerned with in past decades. Body armor combined with new large caliber exploding rounds has the potential to make US forces much more effective in urban environments.Although it would be nice to hear about more recent conflicts, overall the book is an easy and pleasant read with valuable insight.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Case studies of US forces in Aachen, Manila, Seoul and Hue, together with discussion of related military doctrine. By lyndonbrecht Wahlman has written a book with what are really case studies and a consideration of US military doctrine regarding cities. His examples are Aachen (1944), Manila (1945), Seoul (1950) and Hue (1968). In each he considers the same factors, but if I read them correctly, the critical factor is that US units have been allowed to respond to local situations, and that US troops have done well, with the proviso that US commanders in these cases used firepower and machinery rather than lives. The accounts are well done and informative, but I think adding a couple more would make the book have more resonance in the present: Baghdad would be the obvious, and perhaps New York on 9/11 since defending a city from a major operation seems as likely in the future as storming into one. There is some intriguing detail about weapons and characters of the enemy. In Aachen, the US troops storming into the city were outnumbered 3 to 1 by German defenders, but the quality of those defenders was mixed and Americans displayed exceptional adaptation. In the Manila example, it took two US reinforced divisions to clear the city, with heavy civilian casualties: it is debated but Japanese intransigence and atrocity probably was more at fault than very heavy US bombardment. The Japanese troops were mixed quality but determined. In the Hue example, the city was stormed by North Vietnamese regulars as well as guerillas, so in a sense the US response was defensive. In the example of Seoul, the Marines were exceptional. I think the example could have been elaborated, because the city was the scene of more than just the 1950 operations (the operations described followed the US landings at Inchon).Wahlman does cite some mistakes. In Achen and Seoul the cities were not completely cut off, so substantial enemy forces were able to escape encirclement. Overall, the book is better written than most military history, and the sections where he writes of doctrine are less dry than is typical.

Read Ebook The Woman I Was Born To Be, by Aleshia Brevard

For nearly 50 years, Aleshia Brevard hid the fact that she was one of America’s first transsexuals from her friends, stepchildren, fellow actors and actresses, film producers, students, university administrators and even from her four husbands. The Woman I Was Born To Be is a sequel to Ms. Brevard’s earlier book, The Woman I Was NOT Born To Be. This book covers the second half of her exciting life, describing the many challenges she encountered and triumphs she achieved after having fulfilled her boyhood dream of becoming her authentic self and finding acceptance as the woman whom from boyhood she’d known herself to be. The Woman I Was Born To Be is not merely a transsexual tale. It is a story of personal evolution, of coming of age, and realizing that to deny one’s history is to deny oneself. In this memoir, Ms. Brevard addresses present-day gender issues in counterpoint with flashbacks from her own personal story, which includes her professional success in theater, television, and in academia. The Woman I Was Born To Be is both an autobiographical account of one woman’s life and a retrospective on the ever-changing landscape of the gender community. With wit, candor, and insight, Ms. Brevard entertains, educates, and enlightens as she tells her unique saga. Find a comfortable seat and turn the first page. By book’s end, you’ll agree Aleshia Brevard is living life to the fullest as the woman she was indeed born to be.

The Woman I Was Born To Be, by Aleshia Brevard

About the Author Told with truth, humor and flair, this is the autobiography of one transsexual's wild ride from boyhood as Alfred Brevard ("Buddy") Crenshaw in rural Tennessee to voluptuous female entertainer in Hollywood. Aleshia Brevard, as she is now known, underwent gender confirmation surgery in Los Angeles in 1962, one of the first such operations in the United States. (The famous gender disorientation pioneer, Dr. Harry Benjamin, broke news of their son’s transsexual diagnosis to Brevard's astonished parents.) Under the stage name Lee Shaw, Brevard worked as a drag queen at Finocchio's, a San Francisco nightclub, doing Marilyn Monroe impersonations. (Like Marilyn, she thrived on romance and had a string of entanglements with men.) Later, she worked as a stripper in Reno and as a Playboy Bunny at the Sunset Strip hutch. After playing opposite Don Knotts in the movie The Love God in 1969, Brevard appeared in 7 more films during her career. After breaking into TV as a regular on the Red Skelton Show, in the early 1970s she appeared in 37 television productions and over 50 stage shows and tours. She created the role of Tex on the daytime soap opera One Life To Live. Brevard was America’s first transsexual actress to appear in prime time television, even though her gender history was never made public. Following her theatrical career, Brevard returned to teach theater at East Tennessee State, the same university she had attended as a boy. This memoir is a rare pre-Women's Movement account of coming to terms with gender identity. Brevard writes frankly about the degree to which she organized her life around pleasing men, and how absurd it all seems to her now.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. a Woman that has walked in every American Womans Heels By Jennifer Ames "The Woman I WAS Born to Be" echoes the story of many American women. The author has walked in their heels: daughter, woman, wife and, for some, as an actress in film and early television.Aleshia Brevard transitioned directly from boyhood into a time when women depended on men, then graduated to a position of self-empowerment. Aleshia is an inspiration. Her book is written with an honesty that will touch everyone, giving readers a taste how women really handle becoming their own woman .Jennifer AmesMedia Consultant & Life Coach, H.B.O, C.N.N, the Learning Channel and A&E. A former model, she has been a professor on self-development for over a decade.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent sequel to "The Woman I Was Not Born To Be" By Dave Parker This is a later-in-life continuation of Ms Brevard's memoir "The Woman I Was NOT Born To Be," published in 2001. For those who have not read her earlier book, Ms. Brevard begins with 6 pages of brief, chronological excerpts of her earlier work so the reader knows where she is coming from. To get maximum benefit from this book, you should read her earlier one first. Like that earlier publication, this one reads like a discussion between family members or friends."The Woman I Was Born To Be" starts with the death of her mother. Her close relationship with, but lack of understanding of, her mother comes through here as it has in her earlier work. The gap between relationships in their rural East Tennessee town and the bright lights and success Aleshia has experienced is oceans wide. Through additional stories of her life as a college professor, high school teacher, manager of a modeling agency, and - oh, yes - a successful stage, screen, and television actress, Miss Brevard demonstrates unequivocally that hard work and ambition can overcome a desperate childhood. Her several unsuccessful marriages reflect mostly on the 1950s Southern attitudes about a woman's place. Her goal of becoming a complete woman was based on that training - a "good woman" must be subservient to her man. It was only recently, after four marriages and numerous other unsuccessful relationships that her heart accepted what her brain already knew - she didn't need another person to be herself. This book reeks with distrust for men. Considering her actual experiences with her father, her husbands, talent agents, and employers, that should be no surprise. After living most of her adult life in stealth, publication of her first book outed her to anyone who heard of it. Her fears that all her associates - including where she was teaching high school - would shun her as so many had in the past were unfounded. Now, late in life, she has become more of an activist. Like her books; she is in a great position to help young transsexuals find their way.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Superb Memoir By Bev KC This book and the first one are superb memoirs of what it was like to be transsexual in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Aleshia is not only an exceptionally brave, smart and accomplished lady, but very insightful into the workings of society and the challenges that transwomen face today. Her writing is very high class comensurate with the graduate degreed educator that she is. She is a wonderful and gracious lady and her stories, observations and philosophical wit give hope to those who are walking the same path and provide a window into that world for those who seek understanding. She has a superb gift of reaching out to touch those who might otherwise fail to listen.

Clifton's Cafeteria it might just be the most famous restaurant in the history of L.A. The Golden Rule. That's what the place was all about. So everybody came. Clifford Clinton owned Clifton's all of 'em everything he did was about doin' unto others. Nobody goin' hungry on his watch. And when he saw corruption in his City of Angels, he went after it. He led a campaign to recall the Mayor. He cleaned up the town. His story is as good as it gets straight outta Raymond Chandler, only real Clifford Clinton's never-published story, and more stuff about L.A. you just won't believe.

“In just a few dozen pages, this research-based book will inspire and help you to make your teaching more intentional, engaging, and effective. This concise guide synthesizes recent scholarship to provide practical advice that is accessible to everyone who teaches in higher education.” --Peter Felten , Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning, Director, Center for Engaged Learning, and Professor of History, Elon University"This book achieves several important goals. First, it is indeed concise. This is a major service to teachers. The literature is large and continually growing, but the authors succeed in bringing it all together in a highly practical and accessible way. There are three chapters which not only provide theory, but also a wide range of approaches and examples for achieving deeper learning, using action centered pedagogy, and assessing the outcomes. It will be of great use to experts in the disciplines who are asked to teach, but have little or no knowledge of learning theory and teaching methods (which is most of us.)" --James Zull, Author, The Art of Changing the Brain: Enriching the Practice of Teaching by Exploring the Biology of Learning“What does this book do that is different from the other books about teaching and learning? Those of us who have ventured into the literature on teaching and learning know that, over the past two decades, it has become a discipline unto itself. The options and resources for improving one’s teaching sometime feel limitless and overwhelming, especially for faculty members who are busily engaged not only in teaching and service, but also in research and creative work. A Concise Guide reviews, condenses, and explains those theories and practices—allowing you, the reader, to efficiently and effectively engage with those ideas.” --Michael Reder, Director , Joy Shechtman Mankoff Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning, Connecticut CollegeThis concise guidebook is intended for faculty who are interested in engaging their students and developing deep and lasting learning, but do not have the time to immerse themselves in the scholarship of teaching and learning.Acknowledging the growing body of peer-reviewed literature on practices that can dramatically impact teaching, this intentionally brief book:* Summarizes recent research on six of the most compelling principles in learning and teaching* Describes their application to the college classroom* Presents teaching strategies that are based on pragmatic practices* Provides annotated bibliographies and important citations for faculty who want to explore thesetopics furtherThis guidebook begins with an overview of how we learn, covering such topics such as the distinction between expert and novice learners, memory, prior learning, and metacognition. The body of the book is divided into three main sections each of which includes teaching principles, applications, and related strategies – most of which can be implemented without extensive preparation. The applications sections present examples of practice across a diverse range of disciplines including the sciences, humanities, arts, and pre-professional programs. This book provides a foundation for the reader explore these approaches and methods in his or her teaching.

A Concise Guide to Improving Student Learning: Six Evidence-Based Principles and How to Apply Them, by Diane Cummings Persellin, Mary Blythe Daniels

Review "A Concise Guide to Improving Student Learning: Six Evidence-Based Principles and How to Apply Them offers educators at the college teaching levels specific ideas on how to apply theory to learning, and pairs a research-based book with a guide to advancing scholarship quality in higher education. Chapters are intended for faculty who want to engage their students, but have little time to study the process. Recent research findings are thus summarized, linked to college classroom applications and methods, and contrasted with teaching methods that have been used less successfully. Add in annotated bibliographies and citations and you have a fine guide educators will relish." (California Bookwatch)“In just a few dozen pages, this research-based book will inspire and help you to make your teaching more intentional, engaging, and effective. This concise guide synthesizes recent scholarship to provide practical advice that is accessible to everyone who teaches in higher education.” (Peter Felten)“You have in your hand, in one, compact package, a primer, a detailed guidebook to becoming a more effective teacher. In just sixty pages of main text you will find rich morsels, insights, and wisdom about approaches to improving student learning. Professors Persellin and Daniels have combed over and reviewed the best ideas about effective teaching and learning, straining them down to six, straightforward principles. What does this book do that is different from the other books about teaching and learning? Those of us who have ventured into the literature on teaching and learning know that, over the past two decades, it has become a discipline unto itself. The options and resources for improving one’s teaching sometime feel limitless and overwhelming, especially for faculty members who are busily engaged not only in teaching and service, but also in research and creative work. A Concise Guide reviews, condenses, and explains those theories and practices―allowing you, the reader, to efficiently and effectively engage with those ideas.” (Michael Reder, Director)"This is a valuable guide for college and university teachers of all levels of experience because it bridges the gap between what we know about students’ learning and how we teach. The book culls important research to offer up a concise set of evidence-based strategies teachers can put to use immediately to enhance students’ academic success." (Mary-Ann Winkelmes, Coordinator of Instructional Development and Research)"This book achieves several important goals. Review "...the romance overflows between the two and Persecution has just enough intrigue to have fans of anything paranormal devouring this book... fast paced paranormal short story that starts the action right from the beginning and doesn't let up with the thrills and excitement all the way to the end." - 4 Stars from Kayti Nika Raet for Readers' Favorite

About the Author I was born in Williamsburg Virginia and raised in Yorktown Virginia so paranormal inspiration was easily obtained. I have 4 awesomesauce kids and an AMAZING husband. Currently I'm working on book two in the Dyphillum series and loving it. I'm a google junkie and can find a pic on google to fit any conversation and will cyber stalk a topic till my eyes hurt if I am interested in it enough. Coffee and gummy bears are an hourly habit. Some of my favorites include: Reading (of course), writing (well duh), baking fancy shmancy cakes, painting and last but not least hanging out with the fam

By mercedes I've already read this book because I was lucky enough to edit it:) yes, you can all hate meOkay, so this wonderful book is short & fun.The main character, Cecily, is spunky, fun & absolutely wonderful! She's strong, brave & definitely a great main character. Her counter part, Isaac, is sweet, caring & sometimes funny. He would do anything for Cecily, loves his family (even his evil brother) & is just a great guy. (Totally crush worthy)Isaac's older brother, Julian, is my definition of an amazing wet dream, lol. He's a total bad boy (with a small amount of good) he's loyal, trustworthy, and bossy. This book has romance, action, suspense & is really funny sometimes. This book starts with action & just doesn't stop till the very end. You'll lose sleep staying up to read it, I promise! I just finished it & I can not wait for the sequel! While you will have questions after, it just adds to the anticipation of the sequel.I truly loved editing & reading this novel & highly recommend it. I promise you won't be disappointed!

The Conclusion to the Storm Series is here! The last two weeks of my life have been a fairy tale. Coffee shop girl meets famous actor. Lots of kinky games ensue. Much fun and sex is had. But fairy tales have dark undertones. I am surrounded by a pack of baying paparazzi, hungry for their scoop. I huddle in my apartment. Tim Banks, my own personal Prince Charming, is flying back to Los Angeles in a few hours. Now I have to decide whether I trust enough in love to fight for him, or if it is best to just let him go.

By book worm At the end of book 4 Tessa was hold up in her book store hiding from the media circus out side of her pizza place .Tim was very worried about her and also trying to do all that he could to let her know he was there for her and that he had her back. When Tim saw that it was to much for Tessa with alittle help from her friends he created a diversion to get her out of the there. He sent her a text telling her to pack a bag and meet him out back he was taking her away. It was exactly what Tessa needed, for him to take control of the situation. Needless to say his diversionary tactics worked fabulously.Tessa was relieved to be getting away with him and needed this time, I think, to help her understand that Tim loved her and was putting his heart on the line and offering her everything in asking her to move to L.A. with him. He helped her to realize that she did have a set evacuation plan already set up for leaving Liverpool and were she ended up was only a formality but that he need her to except his environment to except him. By the time they had to leave she was sure that Tim loved her but still afraid to take a chance. Tim understands her completely and as much as it hurt him, He told her he would be waiting for her answer and the ball was in her court. He was completely vested in their relationship if she would take a chance on them. It took her a couple of months of deep soul searching and finding out that Tim was calling her best friend often to see how she was doing to finally make up her mind and her heart. This Story touched me in so many ways, after reading books 1-4 my heart was fully and irrevocably won over. I was so excited to read the culmination of this series but saddened on the same coin to see it end. what an excellent writer Tara Crescent is. I really hope that she will revisit this series in the future. I for one would love to know. What happens next??

There's a perfectly good reason for that - Tara Crescent had a lot to wrap up with this whirlwind romance and only one book to do it.I'm pleased to say that the conclusion to the storm series was absolutely beautiful. It was sweet, hot, heart-warming, and satisfying as all hell. When we left off in Tabloid Trouble, Tessa was cracking under the pressure of paparazzi and how quickly everything in her world had tipped on its side.. And all due to one guy... Ok, so he's like the most perfect guy in all of existence... But still...Tessa doesn't want to spend her entire life wondering "what If...?", but she's a realist. She's just a regular girl living a quiet (if lonely) life. She never wanted to be famous. The only time she's ever wanted to be the center of attention is when she has Tim all alone and naked. She's not cut out for the media circus...But that's the life that Timothy Banks leads...Filming is wrapping up and he'll be returning to LA - all the way across the continent - their relationship is in its infancy; there's no way it can survive long-distance.They have one more weekend together.Forty-eight hours to determine if what's between them is more than just sex...Two days to figure out how to spend the rest of their lives...I smiled,I laughed,I swooned,I squirmed...I LOVED IT!

By Lissa I received this boxed set for an honest review.Tessa is a girl who's hiding from life while pretending to be content running her coffee/pizza shop in the small town of Liverpool, Nova Scotia. When a movie comes into town with heartthrob Timothy Banks as it's lead her whole life gets turned upside down when she finds herself letting Tim in from the cold during a storm. She's instantly attracted to him but is surprised to see an answering attraction in his eyes. She knows that all they can be his a hot fling but after his dominance in the bedroom gets her blood pumping she's ready to jump in punishments and all! Is their chemistry purely physical? Are they just what each other needs to heal the heartache they've both been through?I really enjoyed this series, I think at some point in our life we've all runaway in one form or another and found ourselves in Tessa's position of wondering what's next for us in life. I found her to be extremely relatable as well as sarcastically hilarious...my favorite type of funny! He's hot and dominant but sweet and caring with his own set of baggage. Together they're HOT and the sexy scenes do no disappoint but this book did a great job of balancing the story with the steamy BDSM scenes. I am glad that I read this as set though as it's a series so each episode is not a stand alone and by reading it all at once I got the complete story. Download this set as soon as it's available you won't be disappointed!

The Court Singer is Part One of A Year and a Day, the delightful retelling of the classic story of Thomas the Rhymer, a 13th-century Scottish harper, singer, troubadour—who has a life-changing encounter with none other than The Queen of Faerie. The Court Singer moves its main character, a man called Thomas Lear, from the pages of that myth and into the American Pop Music scene in Los Angeles in the mid-1970s.

It's so refreshing to find a book that taps into the desires we all have to hear (or read) a good old-fashioned tale of magic and wonder. I'll admit I'm not always a fan of our "hero," Thomas... but that's okay, because no one is perfect, and that makes him all the more real. More importantly, I want to know what happens to him - which is really the point, right? There's a touch of nostalgia for the "good old days" of rock and roll, intermingled with dreams and love... and yowsah, steamy sex! I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next!

However, I was fortunate that my wife suggested I read it; I am really thankful for her recommendation. The story pulled me in from the beginning, and kept me guessing as to where it would take me. Now that I am finished, I look forward to the next book. Lisa's writing is very creative and enjoyable to read. I would definitely recommend this book.

Lisa Courtney’s protagonist in The Court Singer sweeps you off your feet. His adventure is totally credible, and you just go with him. The Folk he meets, and the woman he loves, and the things he does for his year and a day give you a totally perfect escape. I’m going to read it again while I wait for the second book to come out. This is good!
