2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Intense and Satisfying By ~Cerys I enjoyed this book a lot! I've read some of the Keep's other books, and this one was a pleasure to read, too. It's similar to some of the rest of their books, but different in a way, too.To be honest, I usually read more contemporary romance, but I have a soft spot for fairy tales, and so I wanted to check this one out especially. In a lot of ways it reminded me of a sort of Beauty and the Beast retelling, which was fun because that's one of my favorites, haha. It's got a fae twist to it, though! I thought that was neat.It's a bit darker than your standard fare, so definitely be wary of that. I liked it, and I didn't think it went too far over the edge, but your mileage may vary. It's a good story, but you need to know what you're getting into, you know?And... if you're willing to take a chance on it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. There's a bit of an um... kind of kidnapping? And some domination and submission. It's dark and twisted, but there's some love and romance in there, too. It's a different kind of story, but it's a good one, too.Definitely an interesting read! Intense and satisfying and a fun adult variation of a classic fairy tale.

Faeries By Solmarie I was gifted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Lhea and Fillia are innocent faeries who enjoy life to the fullest. Happiest out in nature where they can dance to their hearts content. When the pair travel too far in the forest they are trapped by an evil being from both of their worst nightmares. In order to save Fillia's life she has to make a choice that will haunt her for the rest of her life.The Master wants a new playmate and Lhea fits the bill. He will taint her to fit into the mold that he wants her to play. What he doesn't expect is how is feelings for her grow along the way.This was a pretty different kind of story. There are a lot of dark aspects (dubious consent, etc) and it ends in a bit of a cliff hanger. I think the biggest thing that makes this story-line work is the changes that both of the main characters experience.All in all it was an enjoyable, quick read that keeps readers on their toes.

When she and her best friend investigate some music that they hear, they realize too late that they have strayed far and late. Lhea must decide what she will risk to save her friend. Cruelty becomes her world yet something awakens inside her. What will happen to her and Fillia? Will they survive this adventure?This read brings you into another world full of danger and the erotic. Lhea is willful and fights as only she can yet something is awakened in her by her Master. This is an intriguing red that will grab your attention. I enjoyed my visit and cannot wait to see where the next book takes Lhea.I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Katie and the Kudzu King is about a little girl from New Jersey who visits her country cousins in Georgia. Leaving the airport, she spies the kudzu vines covering telephone poles, trees, bushes and everything else. The sight scares her because the scene looks like ghosts and grotesque creatures. Her cousins are amused by her fear and tease her, but later help her learn about this extraordinary vine. The book’s theme is that the kudzu covering trees and bushes by southern highways looks startlingly like “monsters” waiting to cross the road, or perhaps to gobble up some unwary traveler. My own children saw many such monsters in the masses of kudzu, and we often played a travel game similar to seeing faces and objects in the clouds. Kudzu (Pueraria lobata) is a vine in the pea family that is ubiquitous in the South. It climbs, coils, spreads rapidly and generally covers everything in its path (telephone poles, bushes and trees and even whole buildings) if left unchecked. Although dormant during winters in the South, come Spring it revives and can grow a foot per day in the summer heat. It is native to southeast China and southern Japan and was brought to the United States in the late 1870’s to use for cattle fodder and also for curbing erosion. Some animals (goats and llamas, for example) like it and other animals won’t touch it. State highway departments in the South planted kudzu as roadside erosion control, but it quickly grew out of hand. Kudzu is almost impossible to eradicate. It can spread by seeds in the pods that form on the vine, or by vine stolons (runners) It is actually a pretty plant with a deep green color and has a beautiful purple flower reminiscent of wisteria. About the Author Stephen Scott is a retired educator and Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve for 28 years. He enjoys learning, teaching and creating things and also drawing, storytelling and writing poems, short stories and music. Since his retirement in 2008, he has become adept at what he calls “masterful puttering.” He has four grown children and five grandchildren who are scattered around the globe. He wrote this story when his children were younger because they were fascinated with Kudzu and how it resembled monsters in the trees. Stephen lives in Columbus, Georgia with his wife Adleyn, a retired teacher who is also an artist and church organist.

The champ reveals a good deal about himself here By Mike Kimmel Scenes for Teens This is a solid, thoughtful autobiography, and the champ reveals a good deal about himself here. I particularly like the story of the strategy young Cassius Clay devised to totally "psych out" champion Sonny Liston before their first fight. The story of the computer fight with Rocky Marciano is an interesting one, as well. Most importantly, perhaps, Ali relates the story of how he tossed his Olympic gold medal into the Mississippi River. Over the years, I've read and heard several different versions of the Olympic medal story, and it's good to see the version that Ali himself set down on paper for posterity.

Wing Saw Ali box *live* on tv once, first and only time, beating Shavers (boy, did he take a punch!). As slave names go, Cassius Clay is honorific. And yet, Ali had to take a new name. And religious identity. How did he know he "had" to? He refused to "serve," do an Elvis tour-- VietNam-- at profound personal risk. He defied the whole System (rightly), and he won. Came back (!), won, lost, beat Foreman (Foreman!). Re-watch the fight, everybody. Round One has no "rope-a-dope" (term was invented, a year later, by Ali with Cosell, Lyle fight, as near as I can tell). So,,, real heroes exhibit a humility, a defiance, an ability to do what *must* be done in the moment, in the moment. And they don't get to understand themselves. Maybe they "brand" themselves ... You know, we fans, beyond the braggadocio, understand you as a quiet soul, receptive-- defiant, human, so gracious.-- So: All I can say is, Ali, forever! Ali, forever! We love you, Champ! (we do)

Yes I wanted more but I love to read a book in a person's own words. Whatever it was that was going on, they can only tell you what they were feeling. This book makes you want to read other books on Ali written by Ali which I have. Not to pass up, deepened my love for him.

About the Author Arthur C. "Art" Unger was born in Brooklyn, NY and currently resides with his wife Grace and their two dogs George (a red haired Dachshund) and Libbie (a black haired Chihuahua).He graduated from Brooklyn College, with a BS in Accounting.  He worked for American Airlines, Butler Aviation International, and ABC Air Freight, had a private accounting practice, a financial consulting company Arthur C. Unger & Co., and owned a commercial collection agency Central Collections Corporation. He is currently retired.Art belongs to the Little Big Horn Associates, Custer Battlefield Historical & Museum Assn., Inc., and the Custer Battlefield Preservation Committee. The author was one of the foremost private collectors of Custerianna.  His collection included a vast library, with many rare first editions, artifacts, autographs, and letters. Daniel Kanipe of C Company claimed to have been sent to the rear with a message to hurry the pack train. As Arthur Unger has uncovered, however, everything Kanipe said about his heroic assignment was an invention to cover the fact that the wise sergeant was simply heading away from all those Indians.Few historians/writers will take Kanipe seriously again. Unger writes: "The entire story of Sergeant Kanipe is a lie, concocted to get Kanipe out of trouble for being where he should not have been." He adds that Kanipe, rather than serving as messenger, was simply another "straggler/deserter."Unger is a heavy-handed author and absolutely sure of himself, but his argument regarding Kanipe is persuasive.He writes that the fact that Kanipe was not called to testify at the Reno Court of Inquiry, two years after the battle,even though he was still a sergeant in the cavalry, "speaks volumes." Unger believes that the court did not want to "exacerbate the disgrace that befell the Army from the battle with sordid tales of multiple desertions from Custer's command. It was better to let the lie persist and go unexamined than risk the disgrace scrutiny would surely bring."Thanks to Unger's detective work, we can see the myth developing through Kanipe's letters to the first serious LBH researcher, Walter Camp, and interviews Kanipe gave to reporters in the early 1900s. Very possibly, even Kanipe began to believe what he was saying and inventing. Certainly his family did: both his son and his nephew added details to the story, muddying even Kanipe's versions and helping create the myth.Two of Kanipe's quotes ring true. Telling of other C Company soldiers who made it safely back to Reno's command, he added that the enlisted men knew about the desertions but no officers asked. Kanipe said: "No officer would consider talking seriously to an enlisted man, much less take his word for something." Now that sounds right.And it's possible that Kanipe will continue to be quoted as having heard Custer call out, "Boys, hold your horses, there are plenty of them down there for us all." It's possible Kanipe actually heard that, before he headed in the other direction, and it certainly sounds like something Custer would call out.But as for anyone believing again that Tom Custer or anyone else sent Kanipe back to hurry the pack train, that, as they say, is history.Instead, Kanipe becomes just another of the five deserters from C Company who made it back to safety. The story of those five has yet to be written. Maybe Unger will write it.

My own mental jury is still out, but to me personally, the fact that they did NOT have Kanipe testify at the Reno Court of Inquiry and the fact that Kanipe could produce no WRITTEN order to back up his claim are the most damning pieces of evidence. Kanipe's changing his story over time to me is less important. As he aged his memory may have been going dim. I'm still reading so I'm still not sure how the possible de-bunking of Kanipe's story otherwise changes how the other details of the battle should be studied. A very fresh perspective on a little known part of a famous (perhaps the most famous) Indian fight.

Honest, bloody, heartbreaking : I highly recommend this memoir By Mary K, Public Librarian William Anderson's memoir of his years as a Korean War medic place the reader alongside him in dozens of intense, achingly horrible battles and special missions. I had to keep reminding myself that he was only 21 (!) when he went there, and 24 when he went home. The troopers he patched up -- and those who died in his arms, begging him to give messages to loved ones back home -- were a mere 17 or 18 years old. He immediately had to learn not to get too close to the others, or he'd be unable to keep a clear, calm head while they were bleeding and in agony.This book was drawn up from many pages of notes Anderson kept while in Korea. The pace is very fast, but it is very readable and clear. Short chapters allow the exhausted reader a reprieve from incessant mortar poundings, BAR, 'burp', and machine gun fire, grenades, smoke, napalm and sheer misery. This volume isn't for the faint of heart: the reader is embedded in the front lines with wildly brave men who sometimes fought nonstop for 48 hours to gain a few hundred yards of "hill". (Every mountain they bled for, the Army called a "hill".)The North Koreans and Chinese Communists paid no heed to Geneva conference -- their snipers regularly killed medics whose uniforms bore the Red Cross.After reading this, I have a far better understanding (as much as a civilian could have, that is) of the horrors of war, and of this war in particular. PTSD would be a lifelong burden for these troopers. It a humbling, moving, sobering book. I'm so glad I read it.

Through Doc's memoir I have gotten a down to earth, visceral feel for the monumental challenges he and his comrades faced day in and day out under agonizing conditions, the sacrifices they made, and the courage continuously demonstrated. In the process of reading this most compelling account of war, Doc became my hero and friend from afar - simply from the sheer force of his all encompassing humanity, the devotion to his fellow soldiers, and dedication to the job that had to be done. Until people are told these stories in graphic detail, words like "courage", "suffering", and "sacrifice", fall short in conveying the totality of the war experience.

What they believe of war is bred by the powerful entertainment industry as well. For instance, when an actor is hit by a bullet, he/she is propelled back five feet by the impact. That's Hollywood. In real life, you just crumple.This book is written from a diary kept by a combat medic. He wrote his notes with bloodstained fingers in -50F winters with 55 mph bone-chilling wind gusts or 100F summer days - while tending to young Americans dying in a godforsaken place. He describes the horrific carnage and scenes clearly... down to being unable to stick a needle into a wounded soldier's flesh as it was frozen. He painfully regurgitates those moments when a boyish looking soldier dies in his arms, feeling great remorse he was unable to save him.He properly describes his comrades as heroes. You are made keenly aware that true war is being enveloped by death all around you. He expresses well that a soldier's own death looms closer the longer he remains on the front lines... and that a combat medic is the true hero.

The Broccoli family meets the kangaroo – La famiglia Broccoli incontra il canguro is not a translation of a story! My approach is to write around a non-fictional story and to add a twist of adventure. I believe I developed an effective formula for young readers to learn new vocabulary using dialogue. Your child/students will learn better when they develop conversational skills! You will have great fun to make voices in new language! New concept of visually engaging young readers is the aim of bilingual story Young readers are attracted by bright colours and funny, cool and quirky creatures – the Broccoli family is a good mix of that! The cartoonish illustrations which match short sentences are aimed at creating a friendly approach for the readers. I used English and Italian flags to assist your children – students to help quickly identify a language and engage more easily with the story. For the text I combined interesting fonts with bright colours for select keywords to better engage with the reader. This will help the reader familiarise themselves with the new vocabulary. So people sometimes call us the “Broccoli family”! When I was planning the story I visualized the characters immediately! For the theme of the story I drew inspiration from our move from England to Australia. Then my older son was about 4 years old and, as with Papa Broccoli, we had to tell him that we would be moving to a far away country and leave our home! We did not dress up as kangaroos but we bought a little fluffy koala and started to read about koalas’ lifestyle! 3 What is the mission, or vision, behind your work? By Amazon Customer Not only the story is fun and informative, but also the characters are enjoyable and realistic. The use of matching colours and fonts in the English and Italian version, it’s very helpful for bilingual children or children learning English (or Italian) as a second language. But in this novel, Time got it right. I was elated to see Jewels, Emily, and Brianna from her previous novel, For All Of Ever, return with all their feistiness, spunk,and charm. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered! And at the end I breathed a sigh of contentment believing in a happily ever after.

I absolutely loved reading this and did not put it down until done. The only downside I can see on this author is the books are not coming fast enough! Muy didáctico y al punto, evitando pasos innecesarios pero dejando claro las alternativas a cada proceso. By carolina Gracias, Franklin por todo lo que nos enseñás en este libro...así podemos escribir y publicar mucho más fácil. Siempre he visto a los escritores, como seres alados, que tenían toda la suerte del mundo, pero ahora entiendo que se puede hacer muy fácil desde esta plataforma y siguiendo tus indicaciones.
