She is very shy when she enters her new class 2nd grade class in the United States. I think that any child of every color and culture will be able to identify with Natasha. Also Natasha finds that all her fears and worries melt away when she meets and become best friends with 3 little girls of color, Janice, Tina and Maria. Together they discover their natural beauty in a way that only children can.

It is the perfect book to read to your kids, nieces, or any other little girls you know. It is well-written and the illustrations are cute and help to get the point across. It is about a little girl that moved to the United States from Russia and is surprised to see such a melting pot of people. At first she is nervous, but learns that it is what is on the inside that counts as she meets a group of new friends at her new school. She ends up loving America!It is a wonderful book to teach children about diversity. It shows that it's what is on the inside that counts. It teaches children to welcome people from all walks of life. It is a great explanation into the American culture in general and I am so excited to be able to read it to my little niece. It spreads a wonderful positive perspective. Great buy to add to your child's collection!

A delightful little book By Clark Slomin Set in a classroom and playground environment, our main character (Natasha), a little Russian girl, is initially apprehensive her first day of school in the USA. Seeing the variety of other kids with different skin tones and hairstyles fascinates her. Despite their differences, the kids not only get along, but enjoy each other's company – making Natasha feel at home.Young readers will learn that going beyond mere tolerance to an actual show of love is the way to knock down barriers, as well as see the beauty within all of us and our individual features.The bold, colorful illustrations really set the mood for this cheerful tale!

Great Icebreaker to Discuss Diversity By Robyn Fleming What I love about this book is that it showcases the fear of diversity faced with people who embrace their differences. It teaches that if you love and embrace your own differences you don't have to be afraid or intimidated by others. And if you open yourself to learn from people different than you, you might just end up as friends. In the end, the differences help make for a more beautiful salad (friendship).Joanne does a great job approaching this topic on a children's level. It's a great launcher for parents and teachers to discuss diversity with their children and students. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful as well!
