I was going to get my Kindle unlimited subscription but after reading this book, I think I am changing my minr. The authors sets out explain what the kindle unlimited program is (KU) what are the advantages for the readers, what are the disadvantages and the plain ugly. This was very enlightening for me. He also propose to look into Amazon Prime membership as an alternative solution as well as another completely free alternative for electronic book reading only. Depending on your situation, these alternative might be worth while for you. It certainly was for me. The book is interesting and straight to the point. Highly recommended reading for anyone looking into Amazon's Kindle Unlimited membership.

A good overview and some surprising options By LyndaG I actually like Kindle Unlimited a lot, and don’t necessarily agree with the author, but that’s why I appreciate this book. Kindle Unlimited (KU) is a great benefit for me as an author and researcher, because I can access so many books without paying for each one individually. But I can see why it’s not beneficial for everyone. Read this book to see if KU is for you, and find out about other options that just might be better.

The French Mediaeval Romances is a collection of the earliest known, surviving Breton lai - short, rhymed chivalric tales of magic and love - probably composed in the late 12th century in the court of Henry II. She is also known for having translated Aesop’s Fables into Anglo-Norman French from Middle English. The identity of Marie de France is not known, she signed her work simply, “Marie ai num, si sui de France,” or, My name is Mary, and I am from France.” Her work continues to be read and influence the romance genre 800 years later.

Williams I commend the volunteers who uploaded this item for online transmission. Now any student of the French language or seeker of female voices from Medieval times can download this item to their Kindle for free. This is a simply beautiful translation in what I would term 'high Victorian English' - very literate, almost like the style of Pyle's Robin Hood. But very easy to read, no chore to follow. This collection is a must for fans of Marie de France. Works such as this were NOT available when I studied advanced French courses forty years ago. Textbooks included verses of Francois Villon but nothing of Marie de France.

I was watching a course that I bought on the Western Cannon by Harold Bloom. The professor was explaining why Marie de France was included.Even though there are many ladies of Marie de France, my first intent was only to read "The Lay of The Werewolf." Because this was in hand I could not help myself but to read the whole book.If the story sound familiar is probably because they are all sort of Carl Jung - Archetypes; by substituting names these stories are even similar to those I read of the different Southwest United States Native Americans. For me there is no danger in reading this book. However the book is also used to help French students in translation. When I studied German instructor said that he also had learn German through reading and translating the classics. His first trip to Germany was very successful and people understood what he was saying. However a lady with a young kid pointed to him and told the kid that he spoke classic ancient German very well.Translated by Eugene Mason (1862 - 1935)With a new select bibliography for today's studentsAnd a retelling of the Lay of the Werewolf (Bisclavert) by Mark LordThe originals of the narratives are to be found in Roquefort's edition of the Poésies de Marie de France; and a volume of Nouvelles Franςoises en Prose, edited by Moland and D'Héricault; and in M. Gaston Raynaud's text of La Chatelaine de Vergi.Contains:The Lay of GugemarThe Lay of the Dolorous KnightThe Lay of EliducThe Lay of the NightingaleThe lay of Sir LaunfalThe lay of Two LoversThe lay of the Were WolfThe lay of MilonThe lay of YonecThe lay of the ThornThe lay of GraelentA Story of Beyond the SeaThe Chatelaine of VergiBisclavert (The Werewolf): A short story by Mark Lord (2010)

I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Medieval literature, especially Arthurian romances, and fairy and folk tales. It flows nicely and is poetic. It is descriptive enough to make you feel you're there and to make you empathize with the characters, but it still gets to the point.I originally intended to read the stories little by little as I was between novels, but I ended up reading it all at once because I was enjoying it so much.My only complaint is that I wish the story about Tristan had been longer because he is my favorite Arthurian character. But I suppose I can read about him elsewhere. My favorite was A Story of Beyond the Sea. It reminded me in many ways of the story of Joseph in Genesis. It also reminded me of some of the stories in the Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 4.5 stars By Erica Smith A One-Click Addict's Book Blog The Morrigan is the story of the God of War and Sex Morrigan, aka Morrie.Too bad that for years she hasn't had sex or a good fight in forever! Her story is full of action, mythological characters and creatures as well as one very sexy Scot. When she gave him battle gear an it included a kilt I could just see Kade, all sweaty an muscle bound with his plaid...okay that's getting off track, The Morrigan is action filled while telling a story of love strong enough to last many, many lifetimes.I was a huge fan of Greek mythology in middle/high school, it was my favorite thing to read and what truly got me into reading so The Morrigan was one I couldn't pass up and I'm glad I didn't. Love the characters, the story line and how well it all flows and fits together. I look forward to more from the author in the future.

But a hundred thousand dollars--and the challenge of capturing a possibly-supernatural, definitely deadly horse--is enough to make her finally return to the British Isles. She's been in Oklahoma, where the Celtic goddess of sex and war has been quietly living out her life--neither f*cking nor fighting, and not even touching her magic--as a horse trainer. She senses the magic at the MacLeod estate before she even sets foot on the grounds. There's something odd about its master and her employer, Kamden, and the groundskeeper and housekeeper are just as strange. But she manages to capture the deadly horse her first night there, locking him up in the stable before returning to the castle.Where she meets the elder MacLeod brother, in a startlingly...intimate way.And the horse is gone in the morning, as if he'd never even been in the stall at all...I love stories that put ancient gods and goddesses in our modern world, right under human radar, so this book was right up my alley. Ms. Reid did a fantastic job of weaving together the intricate strands of her story, bringing everything together at last for one heck of an ending. Paging back through to the beginning, you can see where she (darn her! Need to pay more attention...I had some of it figured out before the revelation, but not everything) gave clues early on to things that would be revealed later.Kade and Morrie are a great hero and heroine with a chemistry that's undeniable, especially when they try to deny it. I did get a bit frustrated with Morrie toward the end--I was definitely with Kade at that point, what the heck was she thinking, planning on going back to Oklahoma?--but fortunately she rethought that plan. The antagonist manages to give them all the slip at the end, setting up the main battle of the series and hooking the reader.Morrie's sisters' stories are nicely set up by the end, and I can't wait to read them. Bev's quite a character--and apparently hanging out with "Artie" (AKA the Greek goddess Artemis) who works as a gynecologist and faints at the sight of blood. LOL! We don't see or hear as much from Macy--she's a quieter character overall than either of her sisters, and absent for much of the book--but I'm already partial to the character who's been set up as the hero of the story, so sign me up. I'm sure she'll grow on me :)Rating: 4 stars / A-I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A hot beginning to an exciting new series By Liana Smith Bautista | Will Read for Feels Rating: 4.5 StarsDisclaimer: I received this book for free from Bewitching Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. As you can gather from the title and blurb, this book’s main character is The Morrigan, the Celtic goddess of war and sex, who is wearing human form and has built up a reputation for herself as a horse trainer. She keeps her goddess status on the down low, and so do her sisters, Bev (Badb) and Macy (Macha).Morrie, as she’s known now, is terribly gun-shy when it comes to sex and relationships—not to mention love—thanks to her love affair with the fabled warrior Cú Chulainn, which ended in death and betrayal over 2,000 years ago. Her job takes her to Scotland, to wrangle a killer horse that may or may not be a kelpie, and she meets Kade Macleod, a man who tantalizes her as only one other ever has, but who also brings back memories of the ancient warrior she’s tried to forget.Like many readers, character is what drives me, and I found I was immediately in Morrie’s corner. I was also immediately salivating over Kade, but that’s another thing entirely. Morrie is as feisty and fiery as any war goddess should be, with that mischievous streak that’s a must-have for a trickster deity. But there’s a vulnerability and softness to her that seems to have stemmed from both her past heartbreak and her time living as a human. From the flashbacks to the Morrigan’s and Cú Chulainn’s heyday, I don’t think I would have been as engaged by the goddess’ character back then, but knowing this only deepened my appreciation of her modern-day character.Besides being hot and hung like a horse (and I’m very tempted to add a few puns here), Kade is a fun book boyfriend. He’s a bit cavemanish, but not in the sense that he doesn’t appreciate Morrie’s fire and her independent streak. If she drives him nuts, you’ll also get the sense that it’s partly because he wants her so much and partly because he enjoys her contrary nature. It’s just so much fun reading this novel because of their make-love-and-war approach to falling in love. Which, I suppose, is only appropriate, given who the players are.The one thing I wanted more of in this novel was the steam factor. Because the book is undeniably steamy, and I wouldn’t give it to a minor to read. But the foreplay between Kade and Morrie was already steamy for me —a 3 out of 5 on my scale. So I’d expected that the sex scenes would take things up a notch, but they seemed to stay at the same level. It’s not really a bad thing, but I’ll admit I did wish for a bit more sizzle than I got.The approach to modern-day gods was one I really enjoyed in this book. It reminded me in some ways of the biker gods in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter novels because the gods, while appearing immersed in the modern human world, would still have flashes of that unapologetic narcissism that would’ve bordered on sociopathic had they been human. Juxtapose that with enough feels to show how these gods have acquired human hearts, and it’s no wonder I was sold. In fact, the first thing I did after finishing the novel was check if Book 2 was available for pre-order. I would really love to see what kind of terrible trouble Bev and Macy get into, especially when you add Kade’s brother Kamden into the equation. And Reid also mentioned gods from the Greek and Norse pantheon, so here’s to hoping for modern-day love stories for Ares and Loki too!***This review was originally published on my book blog, WillReadForFeels.com.***

By Shawn Ambrose To give a bit of background for my review, I am a college professor at a small-liberal arts university. In addition, i am a homeschooling dad. My three oldest children all earned college credit at home before "going to college." In fact, one of my children earned an associates degree at the age of 17. I believe that I have a good grasp of earning college credit in a homeschool program.I just read Homeschooling for College Credit from cover to cover. This book is filled with information on how college credit can be earned INEXPENSIVELY at home. Moreover, parents don't need to have a college degree to guide their children towards earning credit. Even veteran homeschoolers will learn a few things - Jen's research is extremely extensive. For instance, I did not know about NYU's language exams. Moreover, the price of the book is extremely reasonable. For a little under $16, you will find tips that will save you thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars in tuition costs.

By rebel100 If I had known the information in this book I would have completed my own college degree decades earlier. With the help of this author, my daughter finished her Associates degree while still in high school (with a 4.0). This is the perfect guide to alternative methods of credit and earning a college degree. If you are looking for a great guide to earning college credit, or assistance building a home-school road map to save thousands of dollars on higher education for your child this is the book for you...highly recommended!

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. This book is outstanding By David Ivey If you are a parent of a homeschooled child then this is a MUST BUY book. It is absolutely possible for your homeschooled student (or even traditionally schooled student) to earn a substantial amount of college credit before even graduating high school. Earning an Associates Degree, or for that matter an entire Bachelors Degree is possible while still in high school. The cost of earning the credits is not only inexpensive, but the savings from following the advice in Jennifer's book will save the typical college student not only thousands of dollars but tens of thousands of dollars. Her book covers everything from the details of how to earn the credit, to building of curriculum, to creating transcripts for applying to universities, to the study methods required to pass tests (her 6 layer method rocks), to student loans and other financial concerns, and details like knowing that earning an AS degree is FAR more valuable than earning an AAS degree. This book is an absolutely wonderful resource with information you won't find in any other book.

Choose or Change your Career, Travel the World

João Sousa has traveled all over the world due to his profession as a Merchant Marine Officer. During his extensive travels, he met many successful people from different cultures and backgrounds. In this book, João Sousa explores more than 20 professions in demand, that are well paid, where you can have lots of free time and how you can get them. Jobs, Time and Money arose from the author’s own personal struggle to find a profession that could give him a high salary and allow him to continue to do everything that he loved. There aren’t many people who can do something they love and at the same time make a good wage, but the author was able to achieve success at this. He now has 6 months’ vacation per year--and you can have long vacations too while earning a great living! This book it’s for anyone and everyone seeking opportunities: the young person who questions what to do in life, the unemployed who don’t know which professions still have demand, or even for someone who wants to make a career change. Choosing a career is perhaps the most difficult thing anyone ever has to do. Whatever your choices today, it will have an effect on what will happen tomorrow. More than anything else, it’s our decisions, not the conditions of our lives, that determine our destiny. Choose or change your career, travel the world!

Gray As a nine to fiver for the past 15 years, I recently decided that I really want more from the life that I presently have. I purchased this book recently in the hopes that it could provide me insight into a life that is more conducive to my desires. I can happily say that it did that and a whole lot more as well. The writer begins by describing important mantras while talking about his own life. This illuminated my understanding of how other people are achieving their dreams and breaking free from the monotony. I really like the author’s writing style and even though Portuguese is his primary language, he has a superb command of the English. From an insightful introduction all the way to a list of job descriptions that are different than the standard fare, this book has a slew of valuable information that can enlighten and provide a new understanding of what you are able to do with your life. If anyone out there is looking for a great guide for living life more fully and finding a means to do it, you can’t do much better than this guide. I know that it’s helped me a lot and I’m already on the path to achieving my desires.

In the intro the author refers to people like myself, in my mid 30's not happy in my current job because of my indecisiveness about which course of action to take. I'm really interested in the offshore sector but because of my family life I have to rule that one out, at least for now. This book was well put together and informative, not only that but the personal stories along with job description made this book all the more enjoyable to read. It really made me look into myself and reevaluate my options. I think this should be mandatory reading before Leaving high school as I think it will be of great benefit to the young and even some old heads such as myself. Great job. I will be highly recommending this book.

On a sweltering day in July, 1878 the men of the 42nd Royal Highlanders―the Black Watch―waded ashore at Larnaca Bay to begin the British occupation of Cyprus. Today, Britons on sunbeds colonize the same stretch of sand, the latest visitors to an island which has long held a special place in the English imagination―and a controversial role in British imperial ambitions.Drawing on largely unpublished material, Tabitha Morgan reflects on why successive administrations failed, so catastrophically, to engage with their Cypriot subjects, and how social segregation, confusion about Cypriot identity and the poor calibre of so many administrators all contributed to the bloody conflict that led, finally, to Cypriot independence in 1960. Sweet and Bitter Island explores for the first time the unique bond between Britain and Cyprus and the complex, sometimes tense, relationship between the two nations which endures to the present day. Extensively researched and lyrically written, this is the definitive portrait of British colonial life on the Mediterranean island.

Review A really wonderful book. Sweet and Bitter Island presents a fair and balanced account of Britain's tangled relationship with Cyprus - of special interest to those, like myself, who had a walk-on part near the end of the story as soldiers on active service.' - Martin Bell 'I found Tabitha Morgan's 'Sweet and Bitter Island' a delight. It's that happy combination: a book about a fascinating subject that is authoritative and yet intensely lively and interesting at the same time. I loved it, and felt much better informed as a result.' - John Simpson 'This is the Cyprus I remember as a boy in Nicosia - a history that seemed almost to be lost, except in memory. Tabitha Morgan has brought it back to life.' - Matthew Parris

About the Author Tabitha Morgan read English at Cambridge and has spent the last decade reporting on Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean for the BBC. Before moving to Cyprus she worked as a BBC radio producer, making features and historical documentaries for BBC Radio 4 and the World Service. She is married to the writer and journalist Gerald Butt.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent account of how the British colonials saw their rule By Mr. C. Paraskos For Cypriot readers Tabitha Morgan's new study into British colonial rule in Cyprus might be disconcerting. As one would expect from a BBC correspondent, the book is engaging and well written, and clearly the product of a great deal of research. But Sweet and Bitter Island is very specifically about the British colonial experience in Cyprus. Indeed, as Morgan states in her introduction, it would be inappropriate for her, as a Briton, to try to define the Cypriot experience. While this might go against the tendency in postcolonial studies to emphasise the colonised rather than the colonisers, this book fills an important gap in our understanding of the period of British rule. That said, Sweet and Bitter Island is not an apology for British colonial life in Cyprus. Morgan is in fact astonishingly damning, not through crude polemic, but simply by describing the life and attitudes of the British between 1878 and 1960. As the English say, she gives them enough rope to hang themselves. Yet unlike many other studies on colonial rule, what emerges from this book is not a coherent policy of abasement of the locals by the colonisers, but repeated acts of profound stupidity which frequently shocked officials back in London. As Morgan shows, the problem with Cyprus was not that the British were desperate to keep hold of it. The problem was that for most of British rule they did not want the island. Consequently the amount of money spent on Cyprus, and the quality of administrator sent out here, was very low. In Morgan's account we read of a succession of stupid, ignorant and downright unpleasant British High Commissioners, who seemed to place more weight on maintaining the niceties of social etiquette than taking action to alleviate the extreme poverty that plagued the island. This fuelled a social system that created one of the most extreme divisions between the rulers and the ruled anywhere in the British Empire, to such an extent the Colonial Office in London nicknamed Cyprus the `Colonel Blimp colony', after David Low's pompous cartoon character. As Morgan shows, however, the British relationship to Cyprus was complex from the outset, as it was recognised that the Greek Cypriot population were descended from an ancient Classical tradition the British revered greatly. Consequently whilst in almost all other colonies the British established schools where local children were taught in English, in Cyprus schools were allowed to teach in Greek. Although this has the appearance of being an uncharacteristically noble gesture by the British towards the local culture, the effect was to exclude many Greek Cypriots from joining the colonial civil service as they lacked the required skill in speaking English. Equally unforeseen was the effect this policy had on the rise of right-wing Greek nationalism, as most teaching materials had to be imported from Greece.Despite such repeated incompetence and prejudice on the part of the British, Morgan also shows that some good things did emerge from their rule. The first co-operative bank on the island was set up by the British to alleviate rural poverty, and the British also mobilised massive aid for Cypriots trapped on the wrong side of the lines when Britain and Turkey went to war in 1914. And while malaria was not eradicated by the British (that accolade belongs to a Cypriot named Mehmet Aziz) they did stop the locust swarms that devastated crops each year. But what emerges from this extremely readable book is that the colonial British lacked an ability to recognise when they were doing things well and when they were not. That lack of self-awareness was their undoing.

It contains much detail not to be found elsewhere, and is written from a point of view which is genuinely fair and impartial--an important consideration when it comes to books on Cyprus. The author is especially impressive in the understanding she reveals of the psychology of both the rulers and the ruled. Not only is this book essential reading for anybody interested in the history of Cyprus, it is also a "good read", thanks to Tabitha Morgan's remarkable insight and fine prose style.

"McCullin is required reading if you want to know what real journalism is all about." --Times Literary Supplement     From the construction of the Berlin Wall through every conflict up to the Falklands War, photographer Don McCullin has left a trail of iconic images.     At the Sunday Times Magazine in the 1960s, McCullin's photography made him a new kind of hero. The flow of stories every Sunday took a generation of readers beyond the insularity of post-war Britain and into the recesses of domestic deprivation: when in 1968, a year of political turmoil, the Beatles wanted new pictures, they insisted on using McCullin; when Francis Bacon, whose own career had emerged with depiction of the ravages of the flesh, wanted a portrait, he turned to McCullin.     McCullin now spends his days quietly in a Somerset village, where he photographs the landscape and arranges still-lifes -- a far cry from the world's conflict zones and the war-scarred north London of Holloway Road where his career began.     In October 2015, it will be twenty-five years since the first publication of his autobiography, Unreasonable Behaviour -- a harrowing memoir combining his photojournalism with his lifework.     The time is right to complete McCullin's story.

Unreasonable Behaviour: An Autobiography, by Don McCullin

From Publishers Weekly Legendary British photojournalist McCullin ( Hearts of Darkness ; Beirut: A City in Crisis ) has captured the essence of war on film in the Congo, Biafra, Vietnam, Cambodia and Afghanistan. His engrossing autobiography includes 94 examples of his powerful images. Typical of his compassionate yet unsparing work are photographs of a Biafran officer lecturing one of his dead soldiers and of an inmate in a Beirut insane asylum carrying a handicapped child to safety. Aided by freelance writer Chester, McCullin recreates his childhood in London's mean streets and tells us how he got his first assignment. The majority of the book, however, evokes the sad, grim and ghastly moments he brought into focus through his viewfinder and the heavy personal price he paid for those pictures: malaria, broken bones, shrapnel wounds, death threats and a traumatic stint in Idi Ami's most sinister prison. Neither sentimentality, self-pity nor self-congratulation soften the harrowing story of McCullin's quest for the perfect war picture. Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Kirkus Reviews Unsparing reminiscences that effectively combine the bittersweet life of a world-class photojournalist with a generous selection of his haunting lifework. A product of one of north London's tougher slums, McCullin came of age during the WW II blitz. Having returned to the old neighborhood and an animation-lab job following a hitch in the RAF (where he acquired an interest in photography), the author sold some shots of local gang members to The Observer. Further assignments resulted, and McCullin was off on a globe-trotting career that over three decades would take him to 120 foreign countries and more than two dozen wars--in Biafra, Cambodia, the Congo, Cyprus, El Salvador, Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Northern Ireland, Uganda, Vietnam, etc. During the years that he made a name for himself bringing home to newspaper readers the horrific realities of battle for noncombatants as well as front-line troops, the author narrowly escaped death on countless occasions. At once drawn to and repelled by the bloody violence whose heart of darkness he so graphically captured on film, McCullin marches to the beat of a different drummer these days. Leaving little doubt that his focus on the force of arms was as much a matter of circumstance as choice, he notes that somewhere along the line the UK press began covering lifestyles in preference to life. With his brand of stark images in disfavor, the author and his employer of 18 years (London's Sunday Times) parted company during the early 1980's. Meanwhile, McCullin lost his wife to brain cancer, further diminishing his tolerance for death and destruction. Today, the author rattles about a Somerset farmstead, trying to come to terms with a volatile past, restless present, and uncertain future. A genuinely affecting memoir that reckons, without self-pity, the cost and loss involved in making one's way on the cutting edge of conflict. (Ninety-four powerful photographs.) -- Copyright ©1991, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

Review “McCullin handles much of the material culled from his war experiences like a seasoned thriller writer. His dialogue is convincing and sharp.” -- Observer“Required reading if you want to know what real journalism is all about.” -- TLS

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Demons and Dirt By MR HAYDON A DEWES This book is more than just a description of one man's life. As one wades through chapter after chapter of Don McCullin's thoughts and reflections, it's plain to see that he is a fighter. From a harsh upbringing in wartime London, to his constant struggle to bring images of conflict and misery into the public eye and his resultant battle against the ghosts of his death-stained past, a theme of conflict courses through the pages of this book like hot blood from a unstaunched bullet wound.Unlike John Simpson's hedonistic autobiography of his life hopping between the earth's hotspots, "Strange Places, Questionable People", McCullin dashes past the glorifying clichés of foreign correspondence and portrays the harsh reality of a life under constant pressure, whether it be the initial social stigma of being of an inferior class within the media sector, the fear experienced as incoming artillery comes whistling towards him, or being locked up in a foreign prison, where death lurks around every corner. This is McCullin's way of exorcising the demons of a life filled with frightful images that most of us merely glance at from time to time, and acknowledges this in the final chapter. Although McCullin does not delve as deep into the psyche as Anthony Loyd's memoir "My War Gone By, I Miss It So", this book rates as being one of the most sincere accounts of life on the front-line as I have experienced.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. His Life That Illustrates Death By Gabrarian I came back to Don McCullin after accidentally coming across a collection of his photos many years ago. A photgraph he took of a starving albino Biafran boy had seared its self into my memory, though at the time I was too wrapped up in my college reading requirements to fully explore his work and autobiography. So five years later, while I couldn't remember McCullin's name, the power of that one picture egged me on until I finally, after digging through the university library's photo section for a few hours, found his books again. The autobiography is amazing because of the incredible story and insanity of McCullin's career. It is all the more extraordinary because of the direct potency of the writing coming from a man who has suffered from dyslexia and generally avoided books. With this work McCullin shows the humanity of war and the morbid destruction thrust upon a people; the surreal insanity that must infect those living with and creating death. With yet another large scale war impending this book is an illustration of the basic humanity that too often gets lost in politics.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A compelling read By Brian Jones I've always been interested in McCullin's work - who hasn't. But I've also become very interested in him as a person and his own personal story - one that's seen him photograph so many wars and conflicts, so many tragedies and the toll that it's taken on him. This book sheds some light on McCullin the man. The book can't possibly give you a complete picture: I'm not sure any one source can do that but along with interviews and other readings, this book helps give you a sense of what it takes to put your life on the line as a war photographer and the price paid for witnessing historic but awful events. I've gained a new respect for him that's for sure and I'd encourage anyone with an interest in war reporting to invest ion this book.

Janssen Teaching is a profession born of a deep commitment to help one’s fellow man; to mold minds so that our society progresses with a citizenry that is prepared to perform whatever is required of them. When education is based on sound spiritual principles and administered equitably, the result can only be good for our country and the world. These concepts have never been espoused better than in Danney Clark’s, The Educator. Danney chose the life of one “educator” to demonstrate how sacrifice, ingenuity and trust can result in awe-inspiring results. The assignment, for six of Elaine Wagner’s promising students was to write a biography, at least 200 pages long, showing how and why an individual has impacted their lives and their view of History. The individuals the students selected ranged from an Olympian to the woman who inspired Norman Rockwell’s “Rosie the Riveter”. The research that each student engaged in exposed very personal facets of their subjects lives including how their faith in God was embroidered into their lives. While all this is going on, Elaine Wagner experiences her own health crises and once more Danney amply demonstrates how important faith is in our lives. The Educator is entertaining, inspirational and Danney’s best. You don’t want to miss this one. It is a five star offering from start to finish.

The book was just "okay" for me in that I had a hard time with the author stating that Jesus Christ was like our older brother. I understand her reasoning in that God is Christ's father and we are all God's children so therefore Christ would be like a brother. It just seemed that it demoted Christ's holiness to that of a brother to me. I also found that the book got a bit wordy. What I mean is that I don't think that it would keep a young girls attention for very long, it got preachy and rambling in parts. What I liked about the book was that each chapter had a space for reflection with a prompt that would help a young girl apply what was learned in the chapter. Also I liked the prompts for praise and prayer at the end of each section. My recommendation for this book would be that as a parent go through it together with your daughter that way you can discuss it. Marketed as juvenile fiction, I would go more along the lines of non-fiction/devotional

Really helpful for girls from broken homes By Kim Childress As a mom of four who came from a broken family with a BAD divorce, I probably benefitted from this book as much as my daughter. I really like the prompts for prayer and thinking about the big picture, and I wish I would have had someone tell me about the big picture when I was a young teen. I thought the ideas and examples would help girls think about life beyond the "here and now," and recognize that we are loved even when we are at our most unlovable. My 11-year-old had been dealing with some "mean girls" at school, and she read it straight through. It just helps give another perspective on our daily challenges.

Across the Miles (The Not So Bad Boys of Rock Book 1), by Rhonda James

About the Author Rhonda James has dreamed of this moment for more than thirty years. She wrote her first novella at the age of fifteen, but never published it, instead setting it aside for safe keeping. She has written two novels since then that haven’t been submitted for publishing. Across the Miles was her first work that she felt compelled to share with the rest of the book loving world. While her first two novels were adult romance, this is her first attempt at reaching out to the New Adult genre. Rhonda lives in Dexter, Michigan, with Dan, her husband of twenty-two years, and her two adult children, Taylor and David. They share their home with dog, Baily, two cats named Molly and Walter, a rabbit named Charlie, a crested gecko named Izzy, and a yard full of chickens. When she’s not writing or reading, you will find her in the kitchen, where she loves to prepare homemade soups, marinara sauce, and meatballs, just to name a few. Her love of bacon is unnatural, and her obsession with technology borders on the insane. She is a natural-born hugger, and if you meet her you will most likely be the latest recipient of a bone crushing hug (don’t worry, no bones are actually crushed during this process).

And, could they possibly be the half that finally makes the other whole? (Amazon Blurb)Rockstar bad boys always have had a soft spot and an important one in my reading library – they are physically tentalizing and seductive, they are artistically geniuses and captivating, and they have a vulnerability about them that they desperately hide behind their bad boy persona. Rhonda James’ Sebastian’s bad boy image is no different than the ones I’ve come to love, but his personal struggles and the fact that her realizes he can’t continue on his current path have struck a nerve so profound with me that I rooted for Sebastian to pull himself together and become a man Brooke can depend on. I won’t lie on the fact that David was my quick crush of the novel (I’ve staked my claim on that one ladies!), but Sebastian tugged on my heartstrings while Brooke showed me what it meant to persevere when the people who surrounds you won’t give you the support you desperately need to take the leap into the unknown. But it’s not until the two meet and we get to know them that I realize that sometimes all we need is someone to understand our pain and our goals. Some days, that bond will allow us to make us stronger – and yet, we can’t ignore that our suffering and the effects of the events having led to it can also create a wall of doubt. Rhonda James brings to life love, second chances and most of all, fighting for what you believe in – which happens to be for Sebastian and Brooke their dreams, one to stop taking life and everyone in it for granted and the other to make in the culinary industry. This is, quite frankly, another hit in my books and opinion for Rhonda James and has become easily one of my favorite author in the Romance genre (and if she comes up with novels in other genres, I’ll be all over those and curious how she’ll leave her mark on the genres).**Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. By MAustin 5 smoking star readRomance - Hot Rocker“Mind if I join you?” came a deep voice, sounding a little out of breath and dangerously close. I turned and gasped, immediately drawn to the sapphire blue eyes staring back at me.I’m emotionally exhausted after reading this book.Sebastian Miles is the lead singer of the band Paradox. He has just completed rehab and is looking to get his life back together after a tragic event that turned his world upside down 2 years prior.Brooke Caldwell is a culinary chef looking to pursue an opportunity of a lifetime in LA. Brooke also has some emotional scars from her past.Brooke has a brief encounter with Sebastian at the beach, he seems familiar to her but she can’t quite place him. While Brooke is leaving the beach she is reminded how cruel the world can really be. Sebastian finds her laying in the pathway and takes her to his place where his doctor helps her. Brooke ends up staying with Sebastian while she heals and they start to bond and grow closer. Will Brooke get the job that will bring her to LA? Will they be able to make the distance work for them if she doesn’t?I know that I’m supposed to be the strong one here Brooke, but I’m not. I’m sorry, but when it comes to you, I am weak. This is the first book in the “The Not So Bad Boys of Rock” by Rhonda James. This is a great read that will take you through an emotional rollercoaster with Brooke and Sebastian. I loved Sebastians family and band mates, they added a great element to the story. A rising career, fame and all the girls he could ever want. But Sebastian is dealing with a past he cant seem to get away from. One day at a park, he runs into our lead character, Brooke. Brooke has dreams of being a executive chef and a past that she is trying to forget herself just like Sebastian. All the while of talking to Sebastian she has no idea who he really is. But when she does, she of course is shocked! I mean, how would you react if you met your favorite rock star? *Harry Styles would not be safe around me*Rhonda James told me that this was her first book, she told me it wasn't gonna be good and "oh I'm not expecting a 10 star, I know it isn't the best* LIES! SHE LIED TO ME!THIS WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE AND SWEET AND SQEAULS GALORE! IT WAS A EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER WHICH I HAVE BECOME ACCUSTOM TO WITH HER WRITING. THIS IS a real relationship, Rhonda knows how to write a real love story a story that isn't to overall predictable or overly fantasy that you wish would happen but you know it isn't. NO, this deals with the reality of what entitles between to people in love but in very different paths of life and I love it!It was so good. THANK GOD I STAKED MY CLAIM ON SEBASTAIN ALREADY!Bella *RedRoomBookReviews*
