Big, heavy guidebook lacks detailed information By Kathy Cunningham The premise of WINE TRAILS is the assertion that “Tasting wine in the place it was made can be a revelation.” With that in mind, this Lonely Planet guidebook takes the reader through 52 perfect trips in 20 countries where you can spend the weekend sampling wine in the place where it was made. So you could ostensibly use this book to plan an entire year of globe-trotting, wine-infused weekends – if you’re made of money, anyway. There’s really not a whole lot of specific information in this very large, heavy, hardcover book. The book is divided into 20 sections, reflecting the 20 countries being covered. Each section provides a brief overview of one or more specific wine regions, plus a few paragraphs on a number of vineyards in each, and a sidebar on places to stay, restaurants, and area events. Honestly, there’s little here that isn’t more easily available online; the write-ups just seem very thin, with few details and nothing to distinguish them from generic blurbs. For example, the section on the Francis Ford Coppola winery in Sonoma is two paragraphs long – not even one full column on a three-column page. If you actually wanted to visit this winery, you’d certainly head for the website, so the best this book can do is point you in the right direction. There are a lot of pictures in the book, including photographs and cute graphics (i.e. maps rendered in the shape of wine bottles and suitcases). The maps are pretty much useless, and they take up quite a bit of space that would be better spent providing more detailed information on the wineries. Some of the photos are attractive, but others are somewhat baffling – one, taking up a half-page, just shows a woman opening a bottle of wine; another, covering two full pages, shows a man walking through his grape vineyards. Again, fewer photos and graphics and more detailed information would have made the book more useful to someone who truly hopes to visit these places. And finally, the tiny typeface used for page numbers and photo identification numbers (teeny, tiny numbers on each photo link to the specific winery being illustrated) are almost impossible to read. As my husband pointed out after leafing through the book, “This is not senior-friendly!”Overall, this is an attractive book that might be of interest to wine connoisseurs and wishful travelers. As an American reader I was disappointed that only 45 pages (of 319) were devoted to the United States – and of that, only four states were represented (California, Oregon, Washington, and New York). It’s unlikely I’ll be able to take a weekend wine trip to Chile, Morocco, or Slovenia, but I might be able to swing one to a US winery. And there are some really nice wineries in many states other than the four covered here. Then again, I shouldn’t complain – France only gets 40 pages! This isn’t a bad guidebook. It just isn’t what I hoped it would be.

Some of them fell well short of being useful or informative in favor of pandering to today’s ADHD readers. I’m slowly realizing that the days of actual travel books, the thick, well-thumbed, dog-eared ones that you toss into your backpack and schlep along with you on your travels, are numbered. When all the information a traveler could need is available with the swipe of a fingertip, who needs books? I accept that, although I don’t have to like it.“Wine Trails,” while not as bad as some of the current crop, is a case in point. I really don’t see much use for it.In covering wine-producing regions in 20 countries, it necessarily scrimps on the breadth and depth of material on any one place. Each of the 52 regions gets about six or eight pages of text and photos containing a short introduction to the region itself and then brief descriptions of a handful of wineries in the region (I wonder what criteria Lonely Planet used to decide which wineries to include). The obligatory “Essential Information” sidebars contain some pointers on lodging, restaurants, activities and local celebrations. Again, this information is so superficial that it is of little possible use to a traveler planning to visit the area. And the maps—don’t get me started on the maps! Someone’s idea of “clever” graphic design was obviously much more important than usefulness of the material; the “maps” in each section are inside templates defined by the outline of a wine bottle. A tiny circular inset of the country with a red dot on it is supposed to provide context. Well, it doesn’t work at all, in my opinion. The maps, which should be a hallmark of a travel guide, are useless.I also question the accuracy of the information in “Wine Trails.” I haven’t traveled to all of the regions covered, of course, but I have been to some of them, and the statement on Page 312 that Seattle-Tacoma is the nearest major airport to Oregon’s Willamette Valley is wrong. Portland would be surprised to learn it doesn’t have a “major” airport. My three-star rating reflects my opinion that “Wine Trails” is not a bad book to flip through to find wine regions that might be interesting to visit, but it’s not very useful for trip planning. For that, I guess it’s back to the Internet.

If you are in the mood to travel and have time and funds to do so then this is the book for you. I'll probably not hit all these destinations, but reading through the pages gets there with stunning images and details of what to do, where to stay and how to enjoy yourself without the stress associated with travel. It's a perfect coffee table book to for wishes and dreams and to see different regions across the globe. It certainly does not go into detail but skims the surface of each wine trail, most of which you can find online, however it is a nice reference book that will peek a wine enthusiasts interest.

I liked this book for many reasons. It was well written, funny, creative, and had an imaginative story line. Jon's thinking made me laugh out loud many times. However, I don't see this is a children's book. Most of the references are to things that today's child will just not understand, for example Charlie Chaplin. I believe this is a book written for children that adults might enjoy reading to children. I doubt many children will read past the first chapter on their own. I have not read further into the series; I have hope those stories are as imaginative as this one.

A Fun-Packed book for kids of all age groups By Arjun Randhawa *Note: A copy of this book was provided to me by the author in return for an HONEST review.I want you guys to know that I can rate a book very poorly and I won't care at ALL about what the author would say. But, this was a case in which I REALLY liked/loved this book.Children's books really are imagination boosters for the readers. This book is not the usual one. It is based on the story of a 42 YO man, John Carroll, who is really in the need to escape his Über-boring lifestyle and seek an adventure. So, he sets off along with his cat, Theo, in his car to go wherever destiny would lead him. He enters a café and suspects his waiter, Simon, as a pirate. Being the stubborn person that he was, he pestered the waiter to confirm it. After much of hard work, he finally reveals the truth.A series of events take place during his adventures which he goes to along with the retired pirate. These are so fun to read and elate the readers'/listeners'minds to an amazing extent. My the middle, he understands why the world is losing its imagination and people don't believe in magic, which actually exists in the world. Thus, he takes the responsibilty upon himself, to restore the dimming magic from the people's lives. Most of the situations in the story that are related to the real life situations, seem to be humorous and smart. But, a few could be replaced with another ones, like this one -"His disappointment could only be compared to waking up on Christmas morning to find out that Santa isn't real (which he is, ofcourse)". I also feel that some points which are meant to seem plausible (even though this book is a children's fantasy fiction are going very much OverTheTop...CONCLUSION:- This book is a package prepared by wizards, dragons, pirates, bakers, forest creatures and Theo (the cat) filled with lots of fun for the little ones to savor. It will give a message on how important stories are for people. Indeed, one of the best children's book I've ever read.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. fast-paced book By Nicole MommaKauk John wanted to run away (as most children do at least one point in their lives), how could his parents not understand that he didn’t have time to clean his room or do chores when there was buried treasure to find and organizing tea parties for Fluffbutt the cat (who had no say in the matter) and himself.[And NO Fluffbutt is NOT a typo on my part] Running away was easy but soon the thoughts of how no one could live without you would enter your mind. Mom needed you there to listen, dad needed you to pretend his jokes were actually funny… Thus John soon returned home.John was no ordinary child… Actually he is a 42 year old man who lives with Theo, his cat (AKA Fluffbutt) with a wild imagination and a huge sense of adventure…. but he’d forgotten how to have one! He becomes friends with the once dreaded and fearsome pirate ‘Captain Simon Peabody’, and together they go on a quest to save magic! Along their way they meet up with the caretaker, and of course a dragon – because what is a magic seeking quest without a dragon! This was a fast-paced, and kind of nutty/insane adventure book that would be great for middle aged children….or grown-ups, like myself, who wished they lived in a Never-land realm where they could stay young forever and would like to lose themselves in childhood magic once again. It had me laughing pretty much from the first pages where Fluffbutt was mentioned, right up to the end.https://mommakauk.wordpress.com/2015/07/02/imaginarium-ebook/

“To me there is in the Norse system something very genuine, very great, and manlike,” wrote Carlyle. “A broad simplicity, so very different from the light gracefulness of the old Greek paganism, distinguishes this Norse system. It is thought, the genuine thought of deep, rude, earnest minds, fairly opened to the things about them,—a face-to-face and heart-to-heart inspection of things,—the first characteristic of all good thought in all times.”

43 of 45 people found the following review helpful. Good stories, rather irritating style By Leonardo Before I begin, let me make myself clear: this is a review of this book, not of the stories. I like these Norse myths. They are worthy to be counted among classical mythology. This book, though, is just now what I expected. I was expecting the real thing. Instead, I got a retelling of the stories with a rather irritating, juvenile style. Don't get this! Buy The Prose Edda, The Saga of the Völsungs, or even Tolkien's retelling, The Legend of Sigurd and Gúdrun. This book is a disappointment.

45 of 48 people found the following review helpful. Horrible introduction By Kris Wingfield The book opens with how the Norse believed in multiple gods because they had not yet found "the one loving God, who is the Father of all, who made them and the world, and rules it by his wise laws." So they attributed the movements of the world to various gods.If you bought this book to discredit the ancient Nordics, then this is the book for you. If you bought this book to learn about their beliefs unbiasedly, go elsewhere. The agenda of this book is literally written in the first paragraph: Nordic people were stupid because they didn't believe in the Christian god.I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone; even as a joke.

26 of 30 people found the following review helpful. The First Paragraph By Ashlee This may seem trivial but I did not even get passed the first paragraph without getting irritated. In the first paragraph it includes the authors take on religion: that there is "one loving God, who is the Father of all." In a book that is supposed to be stories on Mythology it shouldn't have a religious perspective and should not be telling people what they should believe and that anyone who believes differently or believes in the old ways is wrong. It makes the rest of it seem like it is sarcasm and making fun of our ancestors.

Nostalgic By bindu The book takes you down the memory lane and makes you nostalgic.Though most of the stories are quite familiar and most of us have heard it from our grannies still the stories entice you with their innocence and lure us to visit them again and again like a photo album which though seen many times always seems new.

The techniques and strategies in this book are useful and practical for anyone looking to learn a new language. This book is about how to use your brain's natural learning process and how to apply proper study habits to master new languages. ‘How to Learn a Language’ is designed for people who have no interest in learning complicated rules of grammar, vocabulary lists or reading textbooks. Instead it will show you how to master any language by simply applying basic study techniques. Whether you're a beginner trying to learn a language, or you’re someone who wants to better improve your pronunciation skills in a language that you're already studying. This book will show you how to learn any language quickly and efficiently, so you can speak your new language and not just know it intellectually.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Inspiring and Uplifting By Tony Robson This book grabbed my attention and never let go. Very captivating story about a Saudi Arabian woman adjusting to life in the United States. After reading this book I not only found my beliefs about Saudi Arabian women change, but also felt a deep connection and understanding to what the author had gone through. This book will open your eyes to the truth, and gives vital hope to those who suffer from being an anxious language learner. It can be scary learning a new language, but the author gives a practical view about how one can overcome this fear. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning a new language but often finds they go through "brain blocks" that stop them from realizing their full potential in learning languages.

Antonia Amorsolo There are a lot of books and web products lately that are designed to help anyone learn a language, even those of us who gave it a good try for several years in high school and barely came out of it knowing enough to ask how to find a toilet. I think the various methods are probably going to work best for different people, so I'm definitely not going to say anything like this is the best. But I still say that this is an approach that's been carefully thought out, and planned, and Taghreed M. Al-Saraj clearly works extremely hard to make sure that he's explaining herself clearly through narrating her personal journey.

The Mythological Series Meant to be Devoured. Believe the Myth. Become a Legend. Eva McRayne was sure that Greek mythology was just that: a myth. Fairy tales told to children who loved a good adventure story.Yet, when she encounters a Sibyl desperate to free herself from the chains binding her to Apollo, Eva realizes that the fairy tales are more than fantasy. They are her new reality. The Sibyl: Some tragedies are best left forgotten. Eva McRayne did not believe in the paranormal. So when she was offered a television show to debunk her friend Elliot's ghost findings, Eva couldn't say no. But an encounter with a desperate Sibyl willing to do anything to set herself free changes Eva forever. The Fanatic: We will not be forgotten. Allison Thomason had it all. Fame. Fans. A television show she loved like no other. Until Eva McRayne came along to push her out of the job she was born to do and into obscurity. Determined to see her downfall avenged, Allison calls upon an ancient evil to help her destroy her enemy who understands all too well how easy it is to be pushed aside. The Seer: Eva McRayne has seen a lot during her time as the Sibyl. She has talked to the dead. She has fought mythological creatures. But when she is faced with an entity that no one dares to speak of at the Kentauros Equestrian Estates, will she find the strength to do what she must? Or will she allow her past fears to dictate her future?

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Greek Gods and Monsters and Ghosts! Oh MY! By Drew Carmody So I just got done reading the first three volumes of Cynthia Witherspoon’s The Oracle Series. If you haven’t read it yet, and you’re a fan of urban, paranormal fantasy, this is a series you’re going to want to check out. I don’t want to tell you too much about the plot of the books, because it’s best of you discover the story for yourself, because doing that is a definite treat. But I will give you a sort of Reader’s Digest Condensed version of what’s been going on in the series up to this point. Kicking off in the first book, The Sybil, after college, Eva McRayne decides to go with her best friend Elliot Lancaster to Los Angeles to take part in his paranormal investigation show. At first this seems like a simple enough proposition, but at a paranormal convention, events occur that change Eva’s life forever. Eva is basically tricked into becoming The Sybil, the immortal servant of the Greek god, Apollo, tasked with being a speaker for the dead and to bring new worshippers to Apollo, which he thinks will be accomplished nicely by Elliot and Eva’s television show, Grave Messages. Eva now has to be very careful of mirrors, since the dead use them to communicate, and possibly even break through into our world. What follows is Eva, Elliot, their intrepid cameraman Joey, and Eva’s immortal guardian Cyrus starting to film the show while Eva tries to come to terms with being the Sybil. Of course, it doesn’t go smoothly. The second book, The Fanatic, kicks off with someone that’s seeking revenge on Eva making a horribly dark bargain that will again have a hell of an impact on Eva and the crew. In addition to still learning the ropes of being The Sybil and bringing followers to Apollo, Eva now has to contend with an unhinged servant of the goddess Athena who’s out to usurp Eva’s role as The Sybil, and to get revenge for her perception that Eva ruined her life. I burned through this book just as fast I burned through book one, the story has a great pace, is well written, and is just a damn good story. Finally, we come to the last book in the series(so far), The Seer. After her troubles with Allison Thomason, Eva is back in L.A. and ready to go into production on season two of her show Grave Messages. The trouble for her is, things are due for a gigantic shakeup. In addition to Elliot’s role changing, and having to deal with changes in their relationship, Eva now has to deal with another new co-host, Leyton. After heading out to a haunted horse ranch to film an episode for the show, Eva finds herself dealing with not only a particularly nasty spirit, but a skinwalker as well. Another one of the Greek gods gets involved, and events take place that will once again change Eva’s life forever. Man, that girl just can NOT catch a break! Thankfully, this is not the end of The Oracle series, but it’s a great start to a series that I hope goes on for awhile. Fans of books like Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files, or Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles will find a lot to like in The Oracle Series. They’re all quick, enjoyable reads, and if you’re anything like me, they’ll leave you wanting more. That’s really my only complaint about this series, that I want part four NOW! So, yeah, get on that, Cynthia, huh? Hehe. So check out The Oracle Series. You’ll be glad that you did.

By Corey D Clancy The Sibyl book 1 Oracle seriesThis book is an amazing start to what is sure to be an amazing series. Cynthia Witherspoon is a great author that uses Greek mythos to spin an alluring tale about the Sibyl. The Fanatic book 2 Oracle seriesBook 2 continues with Eva trying to navigate her new world as the Sibyl and her new status as a celebrity. This one starts off with a new foe trying for revenge against our heroine for a slight she feels Eva dealt her. Eva must also try to find herself and her heart. Witherspoon is an amazing author with a great twist to Greek mythology. The Seer book 3 The Oracle seriesWow. OMG! SpeechlessThat ending rocked! I cannot say any spoilers. I won't say any spoilers.Cynthia Witherspoon has done a phenomenal job with book 3 of her Sibyl series. This book takes you to the mountains in Montana and brings in a new pantheon of Gods for Eva to figure out. She finds her heart and her true calling in this book and the ending is heart pounding. You have to read it to see!As with the majority of my reviews, I try not to get into detail about the books they are for. I try to make it short and sweet, telling how I see the book in as few words as possible. This is about the book, not my words. This series is amazing and a complete hit. Cynthia Witherspoon is a talented author with a gift of imagination and storytelling. Read a few chapters and tell me I'm lying.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Oracle Series By Ariel Mathis for Always Love Me Some Books Blog *A complimentary ecopy of this book was gifted to me by the author in exchange for my honest review.*I really had no idea what to expect when I went in to this story. Eva's life has been turned upside down and it happened fast, not dragged out. There is just enough mystery and intrigue to keep you flipping the pages or swiping your kindle. What I love is the Greek Mythology that this whole story is based on. Gods of Old still among us. Still wanting the attention they seem to crave. But in our modern day world? How is that possible? *Smirks* Eva, the SYBIL, shows us how it's done. I love the Gods featured in this series so far. Elliot, best friend, first love for Eva.....I liked him in the beginning but now I'm just scared of him. He's a traitor. A lot of curse words come to mind when it comes to him. Cyrus, Eva's keeper, I'm in love. He's a good man. He'll protect Eva, always. And it doesn't hurt that he's full of useful information. *Swoons* As for our main character, Eva, she doesn't take anyone's crap, she's compassionate, and all things considered, she takes it all in stride I sure couldn't pull off. I really do hope for more because I was left with a scary infinity feeling. It was a great paranormal, suspense read, embedded with Greek mythology that kept me reading more & more. Unique, one of a kind story. I want more of the Sybil!!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Just not very good... By Patrick Niemeyer I was so intrigued by the idea of this book that I bought it to read with my 8 year old... But the stories are just poorly translated and uninteresting or incomplete... In some cases they read more like someone describing a story to you than actually telling a story. I'm sure that someone would find this book interesting, but probably not most kids...Ok, Honestly there may be better stories buried in there that I haven't gotten to because I cannot get past the sampling I've tried...

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Parables and Tales from the Chinese By happy grandma Parables and tales throughout the world deal with relationships: husband to wife, man to man, man to god(s). These are "new" twists on stories the western world has read before....yet, they are fresh and insightful. My one regret is that by ordering an 'ebook' (especially one this old and revered) the beautiful pictures are left out.

Sometimes you find love where you least expect it. For Sergeant Ryder Brooks that’s writing letters home to Dean Anders, his Army pen pal.

As a kid, Ryder Brooks bounced from one foster home to the next. He’s never had a family, never had someone who he could count on to stay when times became tough. As soon as he was able, he joined the Army and found a purpose in life. There’s one thing he still can’t combat, though—his loneliness. He joins the Army pen pal program, never imagining he’ll find someone as amazing as Dean.

The two connect through letters and phone calls for a year, falling in love and making plans to meet when Ryder finishes his tour. However, nothing’s fair in love and war, and in an effort to save one of his men, Ryder finds himself in a situation that will irrevocably change his life. Broken and depressed, he doesn’t think Dean will want him anymore.

When Dean learns what has happened and discovers Ryder has a long road of recovery ahead of him, will he be there to support him or will the distant communication that’s kept Ryder going cease altogether? Only time will tell.

His best friend, Dax and his mother take him in By Tracy Muth ~Bayou Book Junkie 3.75 Stars*This book was provided to Bayou Book Junkie via Pride Promotions in exchange for an honest review.**At the age of 16 Dean's mother discovers him kissing another boy, and his father beats him badly and his mother throws him out of the house. His best friend, Dax and his mother take him in. After Dax, who has become a soldier is killed overseas, to help himself heal Dean begins to write letters through a pen pal program for soldiers who have no family or friends to write to them. His pen pal is Ryder.Ryder didn't expect much from the pen pal program. He definitely didn't expect to find the guy of his dreams, but alas he did.Dean and Ryder write back and forth, talk on the phone and exchange emails for almost a year. They start to fall for each other. They are supposed to meet, but instead after being badly injured, Ryder sends Dean a letter with a fellow soldier telling him they can't meet.As a reviewer maybe I am wrong to have an opinion about what should have been in the book, but as a reader and especially a beta reader, well here goes anyway. This book had so much potential. The author had so much to work with. I was excited and couldn't wait to read this book. It started well, then it just fell apart. I was so disappointed. The author had the perfect conflict, in Ryder's injury. I think the author should have focused on this as the major conflict for this book. Instead it was passed over, ignored and other less believable conflicts are pulled in to give the story angst, when the angst was staring her right in the face. The book was well written and flowed well. Dean and Ryder had good chemistry. I actually love books where the MC's stay together and work through their problems, but there was no tension in this book. It was too syrupy sweet and the conflicts that were brought in ended too soon, and too neatly, almost before they even began. I wanted to love this book, and I wanted to care, but honestly by the end of the book, I just didn't care if they got a HEA anymore. I was just ready for it to be over. :/

It just might find you when you least expect it. You’ll never know, You’ll never know. Until you just let go.” ~ Kelly RowlandThere is something special about hand writing a letter. It causes us to slow down and really think about what we want to say. It helps clarify and bring closure to problems; it gives us something else to reflect on and look forward to besides our own problems. Dean, from 'His Soldier’, wanted to honor his fallen brother and decided writing someone in the military who may be going through what Dax did, would be a good way to do it. Dean was beaten and thrown out of the house when he was sixteen and, without Dax and his wonderful mother, might not have survived. Dean enjoys receiving the letters just as much as Ryder does sending them. Even though they have never met, they know a lot about each other. Dean also looks forward to the phone calls Ryder makes to him. Soon Dean falls in love with this brave, intelligent, and caring man. He can't wait to meet Ryder in person. When he learns that Ryder has lost a leg, he doesn't even hesitate. He goes to see him and reassures him that Ryder is still the man he fell in love with and refuses to leave. Dean convinces Ryder to help him get well, no matter how long it takes.Ryder's mother gave him up when he was a young boy. He grew up in foster care being passed from one home to another. Dean's letters mean so much to him because he finally has someone who cares about him and as strange as it seems, Ryder, for the first time in a long time, has found someone he can trust. When his plans are shattered by him saving someone from being killed by a landmine and losing a leg, he thinks that his dream has ended almost before it begins. He can hardly believe Dean's reaction, his nonchalant attitude toward his injury, and his willingness to stick by him. Dean's attitude makes him love the man even more. The letters between the two men were so endearing. It was a wonderful way to show how their relationship formed and grew, even though they had never met. In a way, it was even better than meeting in person first because it gave them a chance to get to know each other well, but slowly. By the time they met, they had already established a strong bond which only became stronger. There are a few bumps left in the road, but they were so in tune with each other that they were able to solve them without a great deal of turmoil. This is a nice story, with wonderful characters, spotlighting the military pen pal program. It's inspired me to want to have my own pen pal. If you like a romance with little stress, lots of passion, and a happy ending, you may enjoy this book. Thanks, Anna, for introducing me to Dean and Ryder.Originally posted at Rainbow Book Reviews.

I just had to know what happened next. Dean made me cry more than once. He is a North Carolina teacher. He came out as gay at sixteen and was thrown out of his home. He got lucky and had a best friend Dax. Dax and his family took him in. Mama Beth is sweet kind and the best mom anyone could ever have. When Dax is killed in combat, Dean is left to pick up the pieces of his life without him. Dean decides the best way to honor his brother and best friend is too write to a soldier and help them know people care about them. What he doesn’t expect is to find love, and Ryder Brooks.Ryder Brooks has grown up in foster care, he doesn’t have a family to call his own. He is not officially out in the military. He feels alone. That is until Dean starts writing to him. He finds more than a friend in Dean. He finds love. But when a mine takes his leg, it also takes his confidence that Dean will still want him. Dean however has a heart of gold and a back bone of steel he is not going to let Ryder shut him out. That determination is what Ryder needs.Watching these two was more than beautiful. They are what the other needs in their life. Truly meant to be together. Their love shows through the pages and made me really cheer for them. I love how Ms. Lee brings the right amount of angst and romance to the book to keep me reading and wanting more. When you want a military romance with a few twists and turns that you might not expect this is the book to read. The emotion and love will really touch your heart, I know it did mine. Five Shooting Stars

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. not for EVERY classroom! By Cassandra Waldron This was a required reading for a special education class. I have no idea why it was for special education when the adaptations were for any kind of classroom. The reason I really disliked it is because I am a high school teacher, and this text is for elementary kids for the most part. I wouldn't even use a lot of these methods for middle school aged students. The adaptations are very childish and repetitive. Not even worth the money if you are an elementary school teacher.

It was here that the Native Hawiians learned about western man and from here that word spread about them across the islands. The author does explain that Cook's vouyages scientific expeditions with skilled crew in studying cultures, languages, resources, and habits, not just a trading ship. It was here that Cook's crews completed supplies to undertake the vouyage to North America. The book is short on the importance of the notes and diaries to other explorers including the overland venture of Lewis and Clark. The information is available In Volumne II, Chapter XI of the very difficult to read write up of the vouyages in 1793.

We met Brandon and Shunichi earlier in this series and I'm glad we got to hear more of their story. This can be read as a stand alone, but when you read it you will fall in love with these guys and want to go back and read the rest of their story. In Acting on Love Brandon is faced with a choice between the two things he loves most in this world. I enjoyed watching these two work out their HEA. The book wasn't rushed and if you are a fan of Conquest, you will enjoy seeing some of your favorites make an appearance in the story. I encourage you to read the Conquest series or any other book by this author. I've read them all and have liked every one of them.

Sweet, Low Angst and Happy By Melanie Marshall A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review (A MelanieM Review)Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5Brandon Alexander has risen to the top of theatre in Chicago, but when you reach the top, there’s usually only one way left to go. Funding fell through on the latest play he was to star in and now he finds himself an unemployed actor. Coming fresh off a bad audition, he wonders if his time in the spotlight is over. But what worries him more, is not making the man he loves proud of him.Shunichi Miyamoto runs a highly successful dojo. He had always let work be the focus of his life, until over a year ago, the man of his dreams walked into the dojo to rekindle his passion for karate, and it led to further passions between him and Brandon. He knows Brandon is worried about his career, but he loves him, he’s proud of him, and he’ll do anything for Brandon’s happiness. Both Brandon and Shunichi want to spend their lives together, but when a new opportunity comes to Brandon, he must decide whether to follow his career dreams or to act on his love for Shunichi.I have loved all the couples I have met through the many stories of SJ Frost’s Conquest series, but I have to admit that Brandon and Shun hold a special place in my heart. Acting on Love, the eighth story, brings their relationship to the next level and effectively closes out their storyline in a way that their fans will love. And as Frost does so, she introduces several potential romances and characters that the series can focus on next.More a novelette in length, Acting On Love forces Brandon to look at his future as an actor, and where his priorities lie in order for him to be happy. Shun too must undergo self reflection and prioritizing in his life. Their future together hinges on the answers they come up with. In short, this is a sweet love story, low on angst as the ending is never really in doubt.I’m not sure this could be called a stand alone story as the background history of all involved is barely sketched in, so having read all the other novels brings a fullness and understanding that it would otherwise lack. But if you’ve followed the series and the ups and downs of all the characters and their relationships, then this is a lovely story that you will appreciate and enjoy. All the couples from previous stories appear here, another element that brings a measure of familiarity. Its sexy, sweet, and a satisfying closure to Brandon and Shun’s romance. If you love sexy men and a HEA, I can recommend you read Acting on Love.Cover art is lovely and works for both the main characters.
