The Chinese Fairy Book features 74 Chinese folktales divided into categories, making, as the translator notes, “probably the most comprehensive and varied collection of oriental fairy tales ever made available for American readers”. The sections feature: Nursery Fairy Tales, Legends of the Gods, Tales of Saints and Magicians, Nature and Animal Tales, Ghost Stories, Historic Fairy Tales, and Literary Fairy Tales. The tales contained in the collection range from the fantastical to the religious, and take place centuries ago.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Just not very good... By Patrick Niemeyer I was so intrigued by the idea of this book that I bought it to read with my 8 year old... But the stories are just poorly translated and uninteresting or incomplete... In some cases they read more like someone describing a story to you than actually telling a story. I'm sure that someone would find this book interesting, but probably not most kids...Ok, Honestly there may be better stories buried in there that I haven't gotten to because I cannot get past the sampling I've tried...
1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Parables and Tales from the Chinese By happy grandma Parables and tales throughout the world deal with relationships: husband to wife, man to man, man to god(s). These are "new" twists on stories the western world has read before....yet, they are fresh and insightful. My one regret is that by ordering an 'ebook' (especially one this old and revered) the beautiful pictures are left out.
