Jacques Cartier grew up as a sailor, married well and became an agent of exploration for King Francis I of France. In April, 1534, he sailed for the New World. Before sailing, his men took an oath that they would "behave themselves truly and faithfully in the service of the Most Christian King." Jacques' name was made immortal by the faithfulness with which he and his men carried out that oath.

The Princess Who Didn't Feel Well is another fable from the multi award-winning children's book author, Marc Clark. It's a tale about the pursuit of love and attention, about how an innocent lie can have long lasting effects and how, ultimately, the truth can set you free. "Sometimes the best things in life are the ones that you fight hardest for. The Princess used all of her strength to become an honest person and after a while she gained a kind of confidence because of it." Every child is told that lying is wrong, yet every day they see how the truth is molded and shaped until the lines are blurred. This is a story that brings the truth into focus. Couldn't we all take a closer look at that? Like all of the Prince and Princess Fables there are simple lessons to be learned about growing up, sacrifice and duty, with a touch of comedy and a few universal insights for both children and adults. There will be another PF2 story released as an eBook every month in 2015. This is #2. Order all of them at www.PrincessFables.com.

**Standalone Short Story Series ** Pastor Littlejohn is trying desperately to keep his congregation away from Hell's Half Acre - the seedy side of Ft. Worth, Texas in the 1880s. But with too few women to help the cowboys settle down and raise families, it's stiff competition. Samuel is teetering on the edge of immorality, his heart broken and all hope lost. When the pastor and his wife, Mabel get involved, it might be the best thing to ever happen to the town - or it could be a horrible embarrassment. Hannah is being abandoned in Georgia and sees the opportunity to head to Texas as a Godsend. Will she be able to save Samuel (and herself) or is it too late to reach him? Hannah must face a tragedy head on, and it might ruin both of their chances at love.

A sweet and innocent Christian Western romance that's well-handled By Terry_S First off, let me say that I don't really like to read stories with Western themes or a Christian focus, yet this story has both! However, neither of those really interferes with enjoyment of the story, which is well told.Yes, there were Bible quotes interspersed in the narrative, but they fit with Hannah's personality and it wasn't done in the beat-you-over-the-head-with-the-Bible kind of spirit, which is what I really object to in most Christian-themed stories, and the characters weren't goody-two-shoes either.Instead, it was an engaging, enjoyable story of two people falling in love who happened to be Christian, involved in their church, and living in an old-timey Western setting in early Ft. Worth, Texas.I enjoyed the story so much that I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, especially since the author has said that future installments probably won't have the Bible-quote emphasis that this one has (not that the quotes were all that intrusive in this one).If you want a quick (less than an hour), engaging read that's sweet and devoid of voyeuristic, sexually explicit scenes, you can't go wrong with this short story.Well done, Trinity! Looking forward to upcoming installments in the series!

When I began reading this story, I didn't realize it was Inspirational, and I appreciated the author for not hitting me over the head with it. Seriously, Trinity Ford is an excellent writer, very talented, and I thought she did a great job of telling this story. It was very sweet and tender. The characters were very well developed. I liked the contrast between Hannah and Samuel, seemingly opposites, but in the end each fulfilled the other in all ways."Hannah Saves Samuel" is worth reading. Everyone can enjoy this lovely story, and it can be read in one evening. Well done, Ms. Ford.Five StarsRising Star Reviews

The girl finds herself without a place to live after her Father passed away, her Mother had a small girl to raise and moved in with a cousin. After the girl had found true love she got a letter with more bad news. The characters showed their love for those who were living with hardships and helped to make things better. A must read to experience the unexpected events that took place. A great book from Amazon at a special price.

Ebook PDF Education and International Development: An IntroductionFrom Bloomsbury Academic

Education is fundamental to every aspect of development and there is widespread support across the world for policies that affirm that all children, regardless of their circumstances, have a right to quality schooling. Yet despite concerted efforts from national governments, multilateral organisations and NGOs over many decades we are still far from achieving education for all. In addition, while education can enhance human development, it is also associated with persistent inequalities.

Education and International Development provides a comprehensive introduction to the field, giving an overview of the history, influential theories, important concepts and areas of achievement, and presenting a critical reflection on emerging trends in policy, practice and research.

With chapters that review key challenges and inspiring initiatives in countries around the globe - focusing on critical issues such as language, conflict and teachers - this book serves both as a companion to graduate studies in international education and a concise reference book for practitioners and educators in the field.

Education and International Development: An IntroductionFrom Bloomsbury Academic

Review

“Comprehensive in scope, nuanced in argument, and policy astute, Education and International Development is a timely collection of articles exploring how education, in its many manifestations, intersects with international development in theory, discourse and practice. The book, written by leading scholars of education and development, provides insightful historical and theoretical accounts of the field before delving into an array of cross-cutting themes and analytics issues, many of which are examined in light of current debates and post-2015 development discourse. The book should become a mainstay of courses in comparative and international education, development and globalization studies, social policy, and international organizations. It also represents an informative and accessible text for policy analysts and practitioners in international agencies and NGOs.” ―Aaron Benavot, Professor of Global Education Policy at the University at Albany SUNY, USA and Director, Education for All Global Monitoring Report Team, UNESCO

“Tristan McCowan and Elaine Unterhalter have brought together an outstanding group of scholars to examine the inextricable links between education and development. Each chapter provides a cogent overview of research and debates on some of the most critical issues in the field, from education in conflict to values-based education, while simultaneously situating these themes within the broader contexts of colonialism and postcolonial inequalities. Aimed at students and practitioners, this volume raises timely questions about knowledge production and its translation in the politically-contentious worlds of education policy and development practice.” ―Frances Vavrus, Professor at the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development, University of Minnesota, USA

“In Education and International Development, Tristan McCowan and Elaine Unterhalter have brought together a collection of essays by a star-studded multi-disciplinary group of authors from a variety of educational disciplines and geographic contexts. Recognising the significance of the book's timing on the eve of the post-2015 development agenda, the chapters present first, an insightful multi-perspectival look into the history and development of the field, including the theories, policies and practice, and then weave some rigorous analyses of a range of existing and emerging complex issues and themes in various sectors and different levels of education. The authors and editors of Education and International Development help the field to critically look back, and at the same time, look forward we enter a new era in education and develop post-2015. As someone who teaches and researches in the field, reading through the chapters I could not help but nod in agreement at the various insights the authors present: this is a book many of us, including academics, professionals, national and international development agencies and undergraduate and postgraduate students working in the field of education and development have been waiting for.” ―Relebohile Moletsane, Professor and John Langalibalele Dube in Rural Education, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

This book is written like a real tour guide vs a collection of descriptions By Tom I have been to Paris before on a trip planned by someone else, and we missed a lot and didn't understand a lot of what we did see. This trip with the book in hand was totally different. I really felt confident about how to get around, what to do, and why I should care about what I was seeing. This book is written like a real tour guide vs a collection of descriptions. It helps you to plan an agenda for your days. For most of the big sites, it even gives you a written walkthough you follow as you visit. For example - a museum will have explanations of all the big things you would see there, and its written to where it tells you the exact way to walk though the museum to see them all. Its really like a tour written in words. We really liked the Left Bank neighborhood walk - which told us about a lot that we would have otherwise never have known about - unless we had paid for a tour guid (which I imagine would be the same as what we did ourselves).A can't-miss bonus is the free iphone app described in the book. Steve actually reads a few of his walkthoughs - including instructions on when to pause and how to get to the next spot to start again. We found the section where he summarizes the days of the week and what is closed each day to be really helpful. Tips on transportation to each site and whether the museum pass works there was really helpful.

Scanned it before, on the plane, and ended up carrying this around ALL the time. Very conveniently sized, easy to hold in one hand, fits in any small bag, felt totally safe walking around and using this as a reference. Nice color maps up front and other maps throughout make it easy to find your way around. Complete index. Exceedingly handy tab descriptors on all pages make is easy to flip through and find what you're looking for. Excellent advice and insight to metro, walking on your own tours, bus/boat/bicycle tours, sights, museums, neighborhoods, eating, sleeping, money, language. What to do if you have one, two, or three days. Walking guidance on how to see the highlights of the Louvre in two hours--which was perfect! I didn't use them, but there are also sections on Paris with children and a half dozen day trips. I even read parts of it to natives when they wanted to know what they were looking at (e.g., Pere Lachaise). All in all, totally indispensable. Highly recommended.

I have been using his guidebooks since they were published in pamphlet form and have liked everything except occasionally his where-to-eat choices. After all, he admittedly liked dorm food.I carry his guides to various museums and use them like my Bible. Easy to read, user-friendly and great tips on how not to be an ugly American. I cannot tell you how many of his Paris guides I have purchased, but I like to use the most up-to-date book. Besides, his tips always save me more money than I've spent on the guidebook.

Christianity today is often viewed by others as judgmental, hypercritical and condemnatory. Too often people are turned off by what they see as a religion bound by rules and regulations, which they believe dominate the Christian landscape. In Pursuit of Truth tries to dispel those false assumptions, and to show that true Christianity is nothing more – and nothing less – than a relationship with Jesus Christ. IPOT asks the reader to answer the question for him or herself – Who Is Jesus Christ?

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Truth, Eternal Truth, Scientific Truth, Jesus as Lord and Savior By Irene S. Roth This is a great book for the reader who wants to look beyond the here and now to gain meaning and peace. It is easy not to ask all the important questions in life, but the unexamined life is not necessarily a life that many of us would want to live. And this may be precisely why we are so unhappy a lot of the time. Greg Grandchamp’s book asks the vital questions that we should all ask, “What is the meaning of life?” and “What is Truth?” These questions go to the very heart of who we are as human beings and our purpose here on earth. But we are told many lies by our culture. We are told that truth is relative that there is no real truth. But this precise idea is what makes our life unhappy and unfulfilled. Many people look for truth and want to find it. But there is a big difference between scientific truth and Eternal truth. Scientific truth can be determined in the world by human beings. And because of this, scientific truths can be changeable and variable. However, the same isn’t the case for Eternal truth. Eternal truth is the only kind of truth that is unchangeable and we can say that it is a capital T truth. But what is this eternal truth? The answer is in John 8:32 when Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” So, Jesus is the truth. Why is Jesus the truth? Jesus is the truth because Jesus is the son of God. He is the Messiah and the Savior of the world, offering forgiveness of sins and reconciliation. He is the only means through which reconciliation with God is possible. This is the path—the one and only path to truth and wholeness. So, the choice is ours. We could either live in truth and happiness by making Jesus our Lord and Savior or we can go on living as if God didn’t exist and the truth didn’t matter to us. No one can force us to believe in this truth. But our life will be so much less fulfilling than it could be without knowing and living this truth. Thank you Greg Grandchamp for such a wonderful book! You certainly will make the reader think of what is most important and true.

Like any superstar, they crave privacy; so much of it, they built a house in the middle of nowhere for us children. As we grew older, we discovered the lies they built as a fort to protect us from the media, ended up causing emotional damage along the way. I carry a portion of the guilt on my shoulders; the other part I discovered is the separation of my parents. Their unorthodox ways may have driven me bonkers, but knowing they are no longer together is unacceptable. That’s why I decided to rattle their cage by reminding at least one of my parents of the past and the reason they belong together. They need to remember why their love is so perfect and why they have to fight to keep it alive. Even if it means I have to dredge up some of my own painful memories along the way. Gabe Back in the early eighties, I set myself to succeed in the financial world. The first step had been moving to New York City to become a stockbroker, but things didn’t work out the way I had hoped. Instead, I ended up making movies and by the end of the decade, Gabe Colt had become a famous name. The downside to my career of choice: the paparazzi. In order to protect my family and our privacy, I maintained my family away from the circus. It had been for their own good; a decision we had made before we started our family. However, those past decisions ended up chasing my entire family away and now I’m trying to put the pieces back together along with my little girl. Note: This book may contain high levels of testosterone. A Hot Actor, Hot musicians and A Hottie who believes he’s a hero.

Unlike Any Other (Unexpected Book 1), by Claudia Burgoa

Review WOW!! BEST READ OF 2015!!I absolutely LOVED this story. There is a kind of preface before the dedication where the author explains where she got the story. I had to go back and reread it once I had finished "Unlike Any Other". I think she did a fantastic job meeting her goal. This is an incredible love story (stories)...a beautiful depth and complexity that you don't run into frequently. I am so pleased to see this is the first book of a planned 5 book series...the only disappointing part is going to be the wait for the next installment. The story and characters unfold and bloom over the course of the story. I was a bit surprised by the number of significant characters. With many spending some time at center stage, but this is really Gabe's and AJ's story. Planned sequels will highlight the other characters we spent time with. Many twists and turns in the story...some I saw coming but most were a total surprise. It made for exciting reading and increased my inability to put the book down.My emotions ran the gamut as I read. I loved and identified with AJ...she was seen as weak by so many until she revealed just how strong she really was. Gabe was so likeable until he wasn't. But I understood why he made the choices he made; though I really wished circumstances were different.I remember running across this book and thinking the story was going to go one way from the story blurb and went somewhere completely different. It was such a pleasant surprise and now I really feel the need to get all of Ms. Burgoa's books! She is my kind of writer and she is exactly what I aspire to be.

About the Author Born on the mystical day of October 30th in the not so mystical lands of Mexico City, Claudia grew up with a childhood that resembled a caffeine-injected soap opera. Seventeen years ago she ventured to the lands of her techie husband—a.k.a. the U.S.—with their offspring to start a new adventure. She now lives in Colorado working as a CFO for a small IT company, managing her household filled with three confused dogs, said nerd husband, two daughters wrought with fandoms and a son who thinks he’s the boss of the house. To survive she works continually to find purpose for the voices flitting through her head, plus she consumes high quantities of chocolate to keep the last threads of sanity intact.

It crept up on me: this story, this family, these characters wormed their way into my heart. At first, I wasn't sure this book was for me, the book starts in AJ's (Ainsley Janine) POV and I could feel how numb, how devoid of emotion she was. It bothered me because I didn't know if I'd be able to connect to her. But this all changed at about the 7-8% mark when she meets with Gabriel (Gabe), her father, and the story shifts to a dual POV: AJs and Gabe's. Again, this threw me for a loop because how was a daughter/father story going to work? This was supposed to be a romance, right?Ms. Burgoa does a brilliant job in creating such an original story in bringing it to like in a very unique yet poignant way. This was an emotional read yet so relatable even though the story revolves around a celebrity’s life because it’s about family and the relationships and dynamics which we can all relate to. The plot hangs on the concept of time, that weaves through our lives, our memories, emotions and even the mundane. Yet, it’s not chronological, Ms. Burgoa takes us from past to present and back in a storytelling fashion that’s captivating. Time weaves the threads of these lives and it gets messy but it also makes sense. I ended up loving AJ and fully understanding why she was the way she was and I just adore the entire Colhurst-Decker family. There are such complex, beautiful and flawed characters and even some characters that I have a hard time liking although I feel for them. But all of it was just moving.I highly recommend this gem! There's love, laughter, loyalty, lies, secrets, friendship, heartbreak, family and also hope. I'm so glad there is more of the Colthurst-Decker clan and I'm so looking forward to Mason's story, Unsurprisingly Complicated. Thank goodness, I don't have to wait too long.

By Jen Valencia Unlike Any Other is the first book in the Unexpected series by Claudia Burgoa and one that I enjoyed quite a great deal. I do wish that I hadn't seen this book categorized as a specific kind of romance on Amazon because then the reveal would have unfolded as a surprising twist rather than as an already known fact. The entire book isn't just about the romance but it is the focal point and one that sets the foundation for everything else that happens to the characters, especially the lead female, Ainsley Janine "AJ" Colthurst. At its very core, this was a story about a family struggling to regain its roots and its balance, especially after daughter AJ, the only girl among the triplets, makes certain accusations regarding how they were raised toward her parents and then leaves and doesn't return for three years. Her sudden return is brought about by a news item regarding her father and that he is no longer a bachelor and is about to be a father; ironic since he already has three grown children and has been married for quite some time now.I've always felt that the first book in a series is successful if it does two things: 1. Tells a great story and has memorable characters, and 2. Piques the reader's interest regarding the other characters in order to want to read future installments. Unlike Any Other most certainly did both and now I'm itching to find out what happens to the rest of the characters. This was such an unexpectedly (pun not intended!) addictive read and had I not known the twist going in, I would have given it a perfect five-star rating. It gets 4.5 stars! ♥

BurgoaPublication Date – March 5, 2015Genre –RomanceType – Companion SeriesCliffhanger – NoRating – 5 out of 5 StarsComplimentary Copy generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. My Thoughts - StoryI have to start off stating that this may be a biased opinion since Claudia is a very close friend and I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this baby born and grow. Now, putting all that aside – I can’t even find the words to express how much this book affected me.Why?*There is a hidden gem that I never saw coming – definitely had that OH WOW moment!*I cried and choked up a few times – it affected me deeply*I hated characters but then loved them and then hated them again but then ended up changing my mind throughout the book.*Every emotion was tested in this book*I wanted more after reading the last sentence*These main characters (and some secondary ones) were developed perfectlyThe above checklist is mainly what I look for in a book when I debate on how to rate the stars. How to read this book?*Go into this blind*Don’t read spoilers (I know you are tempted)*Don’t share spoilers (Let others enjoy the OH WOW moments)*Open yourself up to your internal “feels”*Be patient (the beginning may seem slow and cookie cutter but it develops)Trust me with the above advice…it will make your reading experience so much more delightful and will leave you with a storyline that you will reminisce about for a long time.Re-CapI can’t say much about the story without giving the important parts away and spoiling this for you – so I’m going to try my best. This is a story about a father and his daughter who are at odds with each other.AJ, the daughter, thinks her childhood is the reason why she is so screwed up in the present and even though she loves her parents, she has an underlying disappointment with them. Gabe, her father, believes he did what was best in the past for his children by hiding them from the media. After being estranged from her parents for a few years, AJ sees a front page article about her dad with a 20 something woman who is pregnant – no less with her father’s baby – she freaks. What happened to the great love between her parents? Why would her father announce this child but never told the public about her and her brothers? She decides to confront her father, which leads to the two of them sharing the past with each other. We take a journey through the “Great Love Affair” between her parents in the 80’s, and AJ shares with her father her painful past. Through sharing, the two learn that they had made mistakes with each other and their significant others – to feel so much pain opens their hearts to rectify the present.Along the way we meet the family and friends of these two and also sets the stage for the next book in the series! This is the story of Gabe’s ultimate love and sets us up for the next book with AJ and her romance!Reason for Reading – Beta Read/EditedStory – 5 out of 5 StarsSteam – 5 out of 5 StarsAngst – 5 out of 5 StarsWriting – 5 out of 5 StarsContent Flow – 5 out of 5 StarsTold In – Dual POVHeroine/Personality – AJ – she can be mean and uncaring but underneath she is just a hurt/naïve girlHero/Personality – Gabe – The Don Johnson of the 80’s – pisses me off but end up loving him.Would Read More from Author?
