Bought it because it was the newest one out, but would not buy any more "Rough Guides". Also found the pages went from dark print to very light print, making it hard to read. Otherwise was inclusive of all of the places I wanted to check out.

By HC After traveling though thailand realized the the book didnt help much in getting around. it wasnt much of a guide instead more general info, which didnt help much in planning. More info and options of getting from one place to another wouldve been helpful.. Ended up using travel advisor which was free and up to date.

Maps generally pretty good though in the few national parks where walks can be done, there could be some small inset maps of the trails to help decide before you arrive what you might like to do. The transport options of 'getting there and away' often tended to be a bit garbled and confusing but there is a lot of complexity here with many options of trains, planes, automobiles and buses in this big fat wide country with a myriad network of possible connections in almost all directions!I was pretty much able to plan my whole month long vacation just using the book without resorting to other sources and this is always a good sign that the guide is doing its job of guiding. Bits where I reckon it could be better (because I ended up having to do websearching)1. a much clearer section on visiting Angkor Wat across the border in Cambodia given all the scams and hassle that can happen2. an inset map of Khao Yai national park walks instead of a page of wordy text trying to describe them. would also be good to list a couple of guide and accommodation options from the south which is much closer if you are passing by on way to/from visiting angkor wat which I suspect would be common? Palm Garden Lodge Resort (with great webpage) mentioned in the competing Lonely Planet Guide is perfect to fill this need.3. some sort of summary table for all the confusing train, plane and ferry options for visiting the gulf islands like Kao Tai and Ko Samui would be much easier than having to ferret around in half a dozen 'getting around' sections of the various towns and islands to work out how it all fits together4. Khao Sok. again an inset map that include the walking trails would be niceDespite my niggly suggestions for improvement, there was also good points like lots of good info boxes giving overviews of various activities such as scuba diving etc. Overall the book generally gave enough information to plan how the TIME of your vacation will pan out over the varied SPACE of thailand and that is want you really want from the guide book.safe travels to alldavid in melbourne australia
