7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. This book made me mad! By J N This book did not provide happiness or positive emotions for me as I read it. Typically, I (and most readers who choose to spend some of their free time reading fictional books) like to read for enjoyment. While reading this story, I was mad (at the heroin); I continued to feel angry with Gretchen throughout the story and never reached a point when I felt that she really understood that she her actions and choices were WRONG. •Gretchen (the wife who deserted her husband the day after they married) was selfish and immature. The day after Gretchen married Hunter, she left him without telling him why she was leaving or where she was going. He worried about her, attempted to find her, tried to discover WHY she had left/ where she was,.... She never contacted him. Her parents knew what she was doing but wouldn't provide any answers for him either. Then after almost a year, she returns to Hunter with Hunter's twin babies (that he didn't know existed). When she returns, she refuses to tell Hunter where she has been or why she was gone --- BECAUSE she made a promise to someone that she'd not tell anyone what she had been doing and expects Hunter to "trust" her and just accept her back without any explanation. SERIOUSLY!!?!!? Not only did she leave him for almost a year -- she also discovered she was pregnant and gave birth to her husband's twins without ever even informing him that he was going to be a father!!!!!! •Near the end of the story, we find out WHO she promised. Gretchen tells Hunter that the person she promised was like a sister to her, they were really close, etc. Again... SERIOUSLY!?!? (Because... 1-Hunter & Gretchen have supposedly known each other for quite a while, but Gretchen had never mentioned this person. 2-If this person & Gretchen were truly so close to each other & really cared about each other, there is NO WAY she would have expected newlywed Gretchen to leave her husband for such an extended period of time without any explanation and/or contact (especially upon discovering Gretchen's pregnancy!!!).
7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Disappointed by this book. I can't recommend it. By Kim I am so sorry to have to give this book a 1 star, but I have no choice. The plot is ridiculous. Spoiler allert: The plot: Hunter's wife left him the day after they got married. He has tried to get her parents to tell him where she is, but they won't. He is heart broken and wondering why is wife left him. His wife shows up with twins excepting him to take her back into his life and ask no questions about why she left and where she has been. The twins are Hunter's by the way. His wife can't tell where she is has been because of a promise. Her mother praises her for keeping her word and sacred oath to her cousin. What about her sacred marriage vow?! Hunter is the only bright spot in this book. He is asked to do so much by his wife. His wife really has her values mixed up. I was excited to read this new book by Maya Stirling, but was so disappointed. What a waste of time and money!

A woman leaves her husband the day after her wedding, is gone for 10 months or so, and returns without any explanation. Then, she expects her husband to trust that everything was alright because she'd made a promise not to tell someone else's secret, suggesting that if he loves her, he should have enough trust not to question her.She made a promise to her husband on their wedding today to forsake all others and put her husband first in her life, and felt no qualms about breaking that promise. But he's supposed to take her back, no questions asked? I don't think so! I stayed mad through the whole book, and neither the final explanation nor the ending satisfied me. I would not read again, and will probably read any more of this author's work.
