John F. Eller, PhD, is a dynamic presenter and consultant helping educators to grow and improve. He has served as an assistant superintendent, principal, and a secondary and elementary school teacher. John has also served as the director of the National Capital Region's Principal Preparation Program for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the Executive Director of the Minnesota state affiliate of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the director of the Southwest Iowa Principals' Academy. John was honored as the Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year and a National Distinguished Principal in 1994, and one of his schools was honored as a FINE (First in the Nation in Education) school by the state of Iowa. John is currently the director of the doctoral program in Educational Administration and Leadership at St. Cloud State University, one of two public university programs in Minnesota offering an applied doctoral degree.
John specializes in teacher evaluation; leadership development; peer coaching; dealing with difficult people; building professional learning communities; employee evaluation; conferencing skills; coaching skills; strategic planning; school improvement planning and implementation; differentiated instruction; leadership for differentiation; employee recruitment, selection, and induction; supervisory skills; and effective teaching strategies.
John has a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Loyola University Chicago and a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Sheila A. Eller, EdD, has had experience in almost every level in education during her leadership and teaching career. She is currently a middle school principal in the Mounds View Public Schools in Minnesota and has served as a principal in the Fairfax County Public Schools and in schools in Minnesota and Illinois, a university professor, a special education teacher, a Title I mathematics teacher, and a self-contained classroom teacher in grades 1-4.
In addition to her work in schools, Sheila has served in education on a regional and national basis. She has been a member of the executive board of the Minnesota Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and has been a regional president of the Minnesota Association of Elementary School Principals. Sheila has a doctorate in educational administration and leadership from St. Cloud State University and holds a master's degree from Creighton University and a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University.
Sheila supports schools through her work in the areas of teacher evaluation, working with difficult and resistant staff, school turnaround and transformation, climate and culture building, effective teaching strategies, energizing staff meetings, school improvement, and other important educational topics to build effective schools. She is a regular presenter at national and regional conferences, providing practical and proven strategies for success. As an assistant professor at National-Louis University in Evanston, Illinois, she helped develop a classroom mathematics series that was adopted by several districts in the region. Sheila has coauthored Working With Difficult and Resistant Staff, Creative Strategies to Transform School Culture, Working With and Evalu¬ating Difficult School Employees, and the best-selling Energizing Staff Meetings.
