All of the resources are right in the lesson plan to download so that you don't have to go searching for them all over the place. This is a real time-saver! I think it is aimed more at middle-school, but I can adapt some of these activities for my 5th-grade accelerated class. I just purchased this book, but I am looking forward to using several of the activities.

Getting the Answers to History By Laureen Laumeyer As a history teacher, I'm thrilled to have found this resource that actively engages my students in "finding the answer" to their history instead of being a passive participant. In addition to being aligned to the C3 Framework and the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies, these lessons were easy to implement as the authors designed them around an organizing question, strategies, materials, as well as 'step-by-step' instructions. But the best part of these lessons was the opportunity for my students to develop their own conclusions on what truly happened in THEIR history by using primary sources and inquiry. While the book is designed for middle school, I would highly recommend it to upper elementary and high school as well. It was a great asset to engaging my students in developing a love for understanding history.

I just completed the three lessons on Civil Rights from this wonderful book. My fifth graders were so engaged in the lessons, that I called my principal down to observe. The hooks at the beginning of each lesson captivated each of my students. The walking picture gallery got them up and moving. My students were appalled of the inequalities that were taking place The pictures made it real to them. The students had no trouble completing the lesson that involved Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. After showing the clip, and putting the students in groups, I found that students were imitating parts of the speech with Dr, King's passion!! I must admit I was a bit dubious about using the Civil Rights Act of 1964. I thought it may be too much for them to tear apart and glean the intent of the lesson. My fears were put to rest. The students loved working with this historical, and very important piece of legislation. The graphic organizer was a great tool to accompany this lesson. The teacher and students found it very user friendly. This lesson could be used with fourth graders as well. Great Book!! Cannot wait to get started on Chapter 5-Path to Independence.

I anxiously awaited PAPPY DON'T PREACH, and could not wait to read it. After reading PENNY'S LANE, I fell in love with both Pappy and Dr. Lee. However, I was disappointed to see it was a *menage a trois*, so with this in mind I reluctantly began to read. I am so happy that I did.Although initially, I couldn't imagine how well the trio of men with seemingly NOTHING in common would work, I knew this stellar author would make it *Rain*…… OMG did she. From the moment Dayton Binx aka Binxie stepped into the pages of this book, it was as though a maelstrom had erupted. The Behavioral Specialist in me sat up and took notice.This clever, descriptive, master storyteller, has shattered the glass ceiling with this controversial, brilliantly written book. Rain Carrington paints with words. The MCS in Pappy Don't Preach were well scripted and shared great chemistry. Pappy, Dr. Lee and Binxie make a formidable trio. They each needed parts of each other to become the perfect triangle.The BDSM scenes in this book were written so graphically that I was squirming in my seat. I was enthralled and couldn't put down this book. There was a specific scene that occurred which sold me on how GREAT an author Rain really is, when *said* scene was performed by Dr. Lee. With any other character performing this act, it would have been, WTF. I truly bought it.I was happy to meet up with Rebel, Jack, Lonnie, Travis and Lin. The fantastic camaraderie amongst them continued. I loved the cameo of Carter.....who knew. The interactions amongst the characters made this book about *family*, finding faith, unconditional love and Respect. I laughed and cried along with the characters, and for a few hours, I was part of their community.Rain Carrington, YOU have written an awesome book. It has taught me that there is strength in being submissive. I truly believe that Binx, Rebel, Lonnie, and all the other subs in this book are all very strong men. Can't wait to read Sidney' s story.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED............

By angie w I received a copy of Pappy Don't Preach for an honest opinion.I have bought and read Rebels Yell and Penny's Lane book 1 and 2 in this series.Well, I loved it!We meet the young and rebellious Binx looking for a master to own him.An ex priest known as Pappy to the congregation who love him, who moved to Apleshia Creek after realizing he didn't believe in the harshness of the church. Then there is Dr Nathan Lee, who only believes in what can be proven.How can these 3 different men come together? Is it possible?With enough mystery, and honest emotion this is a must read to those whohave already met and loved those of Apleshia Creek. Those who haven't, goback to the beginning and enjoy!

Readers meet a cast of elves, fairies, brownies and sprites with such Shakespearean names as Willy Wisp, Moonbeam and Thistledown, and the children who occasionally dally with them. Thinly disguised morality lessons told in an over-upholstered style, they instruct the audience in the importance of various virtues. In "The Frost King," for example, elves resolve to conquer the ice-hearted ruler of winter through peaceable means ("Let us teach you how beautiful sunshine and love and happy work can make you"). More than a little dated, the stories grow tedious with lofty homilies (e.g., "little Annie dwelt like a sunbeam in her home, each day growing richer in the love of others and happier in herself"). Preiss's (The Pig's Alphabet) garish artwork further hampers an emotional connection to the stories. The lack of tonal subtlety is aggravated by a self-consciously multicultural-esque grouping of fairy folk with oversize but misshapen eyes and bizarrely pointed ears and chins. Even the typeface, which has distractingly flowery ligatures, is overdone. All but the most die-hard Alcott fans can skip this one. Ages 5-12. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Review Flower Fables is a treasury of six different stories penned by Louisa May Alcott. These old-fashioned fairy tales have been compiled and edited by Daniel Shealy, who has done editing on several Alcott books. The text is very readable, and has magic flavor added via the font's joining together of several letters. Today's children, like many children of the past, will enjoy meeting Alcott's fairies, sentient flowers, and other real and imagined characters. Illustrator Leah Palmer Preiss has filled the book with delightful and interesting fairies and other creatures. The illustrations are bright and full. Readers may want to watch for the bonuses of quotations and tiny portraits of those who influenced Louisa May Alcott. This book would make a good bedtime storybook, and like many tales of old, has good morals that children could take away with them perhaps without even realizing there was a lesson involved. The afterword is also interesting as it shares interesting details about Miss Alcott. For example, she wrote these tales when she was 16. Another bonus at the end of the book is the biographies that go along with the quotations and miniature portraits. -- From Independent Publisher

However, for young children (age 3-5), you really need to include some type of picture on each page. Amazon sells about a dozen versions of the hardback of this book, and color pictures are sadly lacking in most of them. I checked out at least 3 versions from the library before settling on the one I am buying.If you're going to purchase Flower Fables, my recommendation is the version published in 1998 and illustated by Leah Palmer Preiss. She features full page color illustrations every 3-4 pages, and nearly every page includes some type of color. The introduction is abridged to fit on one page, but the text of the fables appears intact.Note that Amazon's "Look Inside" feature shows the same book interior regardless of which printing you are ordering.

By A Customer This discovery of unpublished fables by Louisa May Alcott should be read by children during their important impressionable years. The illustrations are beautiful and complimentary to the text. While classics of Louisa May Alcott, Little Women and Little Men, are for the early teens, these fables for the preteens tease the imagination in a magical way. This sort of alternative to the upbringing of children by the video media is sorely needed and provided by Flower Fables.

As things changed only one thing stayed constant, my favorite books are still Andrew Lang's Fairy books. The Yellow Fairy book is a collection of 48 fairy tales written the way they were supposed to be written. Each tale ranges in length anywhere from a couple of pages up to about 20. The tales are fairly easy reads, but they don't lose any of their appeal. The book also contains several wonderful illustrations.Some of the stories include: The Six Swans, Story of the Emperor's New Clothes, The Crow, The Cat and the Mouse in Partnership, The Three Brothers, The Magic Ring, How to Tell a True Princes, Thumbelina, and more.I would suggest reading this book, I love it!

A bright multicultural selection By Heidi Anne Heiner With tales such as The Blue Mountains, The Cat and the Mouse in Partnership, The Dragon and His Grandmother, Fairer-than-a-Fairy, The Flower Queen's Daughter, The Glass Axe, How To Tell a True Princess, and many others how can anyone not find this book fun to read? Once again, Lang edits a book full of fairy tales from many lands that will entertain children and adults. The black and white illustrations are also superb.

Morris What makes this particular volume of Lang's collection remarkable is its collection of quite unknown stories. While we all love "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Cinderella", there is nothing wrong with venturing for more complex stories, and that is what this volume provides.I have not researched these, but I am under the impression that many of these stories were actually "written". I'm not sure how everyone will take that threat to oral folklore, but good fantasy is good fantasy, and I enjoy reading a fairy tale-esque story with extra complexity that still holds the same aura.The illustrations are gorgeous, as usual, and display intricacies that fit the stories superbly.Perhaps a more wild collection, but for that I love it all the more.

Reads like honest advice from a big sister By Brittany "The Her Campus Guide to College Life" is the PERECT book for any high school female preparing for college. Those months before actually stepping foot on campus can be filled with anxiety and questions that don't seem to be handled in your welcome packet. How do you get along with a roommate in such a small space? What things do you ACTUALLY need to pack? Can you work while also taking classes and if so, what's the best way to do that? How do I make sure to stay safe on campus? This answers all those questions and more. Unlike other guides that maybe gloss over the lifestyle aspects and focus just on academics, this focuses on more than just good study habits. It's realistic about the types of experiences and encounters students might have outside of the classroom (like extracurricular activities, applying for internships, how to navigate the party scene, Greek life, and more) in an honest, non-judgemental way. It's like getting advice from a big sister that's already been through it and wants to share her wisdom and tips. Definitely recommend this as a grad gift for anyone headed off to campus in the fall!

It's amazingly thorough and covers a range of topics including safety, health, relationships, social life, and careers. It's also organized in a way that makes it easy to pinpoint the information you want to find. Despite being a graduating senior, I still really benefited from the career section. I can only imagine what an incoming freshman could accomplish with this book. I would definitely recommend it for any student and honestly, I'm a little jealous that it wasn't around when I was starting college.

Must-have for all incoming college freshmen By Katie N I bought this for my sister who is started college this year, and I really wish I had had it when I was starting college! The book is fun but also keeps it real--I was really impressed by their treatment of very important (but sensitive) topics like dealing with sexual assault and mental health problems that are all-too-common on college campuses. The book literally answers every questions I would have wanted to know--everything from being in a sorority, dealing with professors and TAs, how to ace a test, etc. Highly recommend for incoming freshmen, but also older students--the book is full of resources and helpful tips to have on hand in ANY situation.

The bright illustrations really grab their attention. Our family absolutely loves the moral of the story. The activities included in the back of the book are a wonderful bonus. The educational tips for parents are also very helpful & thought provoking. I recommend Mr. Happy for children, parents, & educators!

My niece (she is 6) is a beginner reader and I had her read the book out loud to me. We both really enjoyed this book. This is now one of my nieces favorite books!! Its good book for children and adults because of the morale of the story!

As a teacher, I understand the pressure to stick to curriculum but the focus on standardized testing has robbed children of creativity. Teachers are determining how kids learn based on these tests which leaves little room to see the complexities of the learning process. Kids that are very bright, possibly gifted are going unrecognized because they don't fit into the guidelines of what is determined to be "good student qualities". As a parent, I am trying to appreciate and foster my child's creative process which includes taking risks, finding multiple ways to arrive at solutions, and making connections.All in all, I thought the book was easy to read, had important information and provided a form of action plan.

Re-thinking dinner conversations, chores, outings, and other everyday opportunities to encourage creativity thinking at home!

I would recommend they share the book during parent and teacher conferences By Darlene Cooney This book provides exciting strategies for parents and grandparents to foster creativity in children. I, personally, have used several of the strategies with my own grandchildren, and have shared the book with their parents. If I were still teaching preschool/elementary education classes in the university, I would share this book with my students, who were prospective teachers. The story and the characters are just enough that you can use your own imagination which I love...not overly descriptive so you are skipping through. Love the little history thrown in to fully understand what was going on in that time of America.

Belsha I love the other stories about Pilgrim Cove and the people who live and are drawn into the life and love of the community. This one touches the heart and works as well on its' own as it does as a continuation of previous books. Strong characters, an interesting storyline and a heroine you'll actively root for all combine to ring very true in a tale of restoration and finding home and love. Cannot say enough about Linda Barrett's books - each one takes you away, teaches you things and helps you appreciate the special things in your own life. Just finished Her Picture Perfect Family and can't wait for Book 3 in December!

The characters felt one dimensional and the idea behind the plot was great but never really blossomed for me. There was too much internal dialogue and not enough actual conversation between the characters to make me really invest in the romance. And while Sara was adorable, I have a 10 year old daughter and she sounds nothing like her. Sara was more like a 5 year old. Sorry to say it, but this book was just mediocre for me.

By Nancy Polikoff "Her Long Walk Home" is the heartwarming story of Rebecca Hart who was injured in the Boston Marathon Bombing. (Timing of the release of this book coincided with the trial of the accused bomber). Rebecca arrives at Pilgrim Cove and finds healing and love. This is the story of good people who have had bad things happen to them and how they can learn to live and love again. I like the cast of characters of Pilgrim Cove and how they come together to help others. This was an enjoyable read. Love this author.

By ~Cerys This was definitely an interesting book!I've read quite a few books by Dawn Steele now, so I knew a little of what to expect, but I was intrigued by the um... menage+ aspect to this one? I have no idea what that would even be called, lol. Love square?Anyways! The idea was interesting and I liked the premise, and I was interested in finding out just what this paranormal stuff was all about with this one.And... I really enjoyed it a lot. Anne was a fun character, and this book had a lot of the sass and humor that I've come to expect from Dawn Steele books. Along with that, Channing, Stephen, and Henry were great characters, too. It took a bit getting used to the idea of three men instead of the usual one or two, but in the end I liked it, and the secret parts and hidden twists and turns to the story made it even more interesting. I don't want to spoil too much there, so I'll just leave it at that, but I think you'll really enjoy what this story has in store for you.Overall, a really great book, but I've loved all of Dawn Steele's books so far, so I've come to expect the best from her! If you'd like a paranormal romance with a bit of an unusual twist, I'd highly recommend this one.

Garbage By Dark Lolita ok so I don't usually write reviews unless their really good or bad and well... this one was bad :( First off let me say that the premise was an interesting idea and I do like her taste in men but that was about it. I can tell she's a fan of "Parks and Recreation" because the leading lady's name is Ann Perkins. lol And she's also a fan of Channing Tatum cuz surprise channing is one of the guys names lol Secondly because idk if the writer got antsy to finish the book or she just stopped caring but the final (and only)sex scene and ending were pretty gay and on the retarded side. The guys were more interested in completing their coven and living rather than actually feeling something serious for Ann. There was zero chemistry! and my biggest gripe was this chick was NOT (ONCE AGAIN) A BBW! being 20 lbs overweight and a size 16 is NOT PLUS SIZE!!!!!! I don't get why they keep labeling it bbw and these stories are by women! I know these stories are works of fiction but if you want to attract a certain audience then by God you better get your facts straight and DELIVER!! I'm so glad I didn''t waste my money on this and I would highly recommend you waste time doing something else.oh and P.S. it's not sexy when you're writting a menage story and the chick acts scared like she's going to be raped.

And do they have plans for her! Anne believes that she will one day find her one true mate, but the fun really starts when she learns she is fated to take on three! Delicious...love these guys.

Design your own London Murder House Tour By Lisa Ahlstedt As a frequent visitor to London, I'm always drawn to places that are somewhat off the beaten tourist track. Since London has long been a destination for many people from all walks of life, inevitably there have been some gruesome and shocking crimes that have taken place there. Author Jan Bondeson takes a look at the places that have been the scenes of murders most foul in the capital city over the past 200 or so years. Interestingly, in this book, he concentrates of places that the, ahem, student of crime can still visit. He's put in a great deal of detective work to find the locations of crimes where streets have been renamed, houses renumbered, and various building projects have rendered the locations all but unrecognizable. Still, if you want to see where John George Haigh dissolved his victims in acid, or where George Joseph Smith dispatched some of his "brides in the bath," this is an indispensable guide!The book is divided into sections based on areas of London: Westminster, Kensington, Islington, Chelsea and Fulham, etc. and then arranged chronologically. Many famous cases are covered, as well as ones that I'd never heard of before. While many of the crimes were "solved" (well, someone was arrested, tried and frequently hanged although their guilt may be in question), there are also many cases that remain unsolved to this day. I was especially intrigued to learn that the street where I stay on my visits to London, Cartwright Gardens, was the site of two unsolved murders in the 1800s. The houses are long since gone, so one can hope that the ghosts of the victims have also departed the area!The book contained a great deal of historical information and many cases that are probably not well-known among the general public. There are many illustrations scattered throughout the book, both black and white pages (mostly from the Illustrated Police News), black and white contemporary photographs, and color pages of what the notorious houses look like today (which I'm sure the current owners greatly appreciate!).The only slight quibble I have with the book is the tendency for some repetitive language. The phrase "things weren't looking too good for" defendants in murder trials is used multiple times, as is the habit of calling suspects a "cove." Still, if you are discussing murders, suspects and trials, I guess there are only so many ways to say the same thing.I think anyone with an interest in London history or true crime would enjoy this book. I especially enjoyed the many illustrations from the sadly defunct Illustrated Police News, particularly the startled expressions and wild gestures of those who found the murder victims.
