About the Author Dr. Richard Shade and Patti Garrett Shade are internationally recognized authors and presenters. Their work reflects research from the field of creativity as well as a wealth of experiences as instructional specialists in the classroom and as the parents of 6 children and 11 grandchildren. Rick, as a senior lecturer at Oxford University in England, trained teachers throughout Europe in the areas of creativity and gifted education. As a teacher, I understand the pressure to stick to curriculum but the focus on standardized testing has robbed children of creativity. Teachers are determining how kids learn based on these tests which leaves little room to see the complexities of the learning process. Kids that are very bright, possibly gifted are going unrecognized because they don't fit into the guidelines of what is determined to be "good student qualities". As a parent, I am trying to appreciate and foster my child's creative process which includes taking risks, finding multiple ways to arrive at solutions, and making connections.All in all, I thought the book was easy to read, had important information and provided a form of action plan.

The authors have lots of experience and have wisely kept the chapters short and to the point. They give a useful framework, not just gimmicky games. Reading this with a highlighter and sticky notes. Re-thinking dinner conversations, chores, outings, and other everyday opportunities to encourage creativity thinking at home!

I would recommend they share the book during parent and teacher conferences By Darlene Cooney This book provides exciting strategies for parents and grandparents to foster creativity in children. I, personally, have used several of the strategies with my own grandchildren, and have shared the book with their parents. If I were still teaching preschool/elementary education classes in the university, I would share this book with my students, who were prospective teachers. I would recommend they share the book during parent and teacher conferences. Five stars from me, Darlene Cooney
