It definitely is an outside of the box read that makes you look at life and things quite differently. I found it to be a bit enchanting, eerie, philosophical, satirical, edgy, and completely entertaining. I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. If you like books that challenge the norm and make you think, as well as laugh a bit, then do yourself a favor put this little gem on your spring reading list. I guarantee that you will love it! 5 big stars!

By Read-aloud Obsessed, teacher, coach, proud mom, Kim Kuban The words and phrases fall delightfully and frightfully from the tongue. You will want to linger on each drawing and repeat aloud each line, but at the same time, feel the urgent need to see what's on the next page. I highly recommend this book to all.

You will have to read it to find out for yourselves! The whole thing just flowed along so perfectly and the illustrations enhanced the experience immensely . Do they really make a world a safer place? Is MAD enough to keep the world from a nuclear holocaust? What are the chances for a nuclear accident? These questions and more are answered.Only critique is that there could have been arguments added such as the environmental impact, how one detonation could cause a nuclear winter, how one detonation can cause damage to environments for years from radiation fall out and contamination. But other than that I can't think of an argument not covered in this short read.Now that 9 countries and counting have nuclear weapons, is it possible to rid the world of WMD's? Dr. Krishnan proves nuclear weapons do not make our planet safer so maybe his next book will be about realistic solutions and proposals for disarmament. If so I can't waitGreat work, keep it up!

Beautiful guide to Montessori sewing activities that you would love to make By mrs s davies I loved this book from the opening page where Aimee says she is looking for practical life activities to include in her classroom. "I knew that I wanted activities that were culturally and socially relevant and appealing in my classroom, but what could those lessons be? ....For me, the answer was sewing."The book shows the sequence of sewing activities you could do with your child even at home. Each activity has very clear steps and beautiful photos.A really lovely modern Montessori book with projects you would love to make with your child.

I wish I had this resource book back then--it is an invaluable guide! Now, I am giving it to friends who spend time with their young grandchildren--one grandma who has started to use the book with her 3 year old granddaughter told me recently that Sally excitedly asks for "sewing" when visiting her house.

Page back in my annual reviews. I've owned this guide and every new version for over a decade. This is the single best global guide there is. Period. Sure--there is google. Try that on your next trip. LOL. I've said this several times. I've removed underwear to pack this guidebook. I never jump the globe without it (of course until the new one is released--usually April-ish each year). This is so cheap....it's under 2 drinks in any upper class global club! Have fun!!!

Bring your magnifying glass and tolerance for many ads By jowica The book is inclusive of many hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. The content of 1,300 pages is way exaggerated as each listing is translated into 5 different languages. Would have been much better/concise/convenient to sell a single edition of 250 pages for each language. There are also a multitude of advertisements throughout. If I were receiving the info for free the ads would be understandable, but to pay upwards of thirty US and be inundated with ads- ugh! Worse of all, the print is close to microscopic; about a size 4-5 font. One has to literally pull out a magnifying glass to peruse the book. IMO, the book is a waste of money and the content would have been much better published through a .pdf file to view (and zoom) on an ipad or even a subscription to an app. Was going to purchase other Spartacus pubs, but no way in hell after this one!

About the Author Robert Nathan (1894 1985) was born in New York City and educated at private schools in the United States and Switzerland. While attending Harvard, where he was a classmate of E. E. Cummings, he was an editor of the "Harvard Monthly", in which his first stories and poems appeared. After becoming a full-time writer, Nathan s work strengthened his reputation with both the public and peers. F. Scott Fitzgerald once referred to Nathan as his favorite writer. Five of his novels have been made into films, including "Portrait of Jennie" and "The Bishop s Wife". Nathan ultimately authored more than fifty volumes of novels, poetry, and plays, and from this body of distinguished work he acquired a reputation as a master of satiric fantasy.

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. What's the point? By Richard Stooker I have fond memories of reading other Robert Nathan books. I can't imagine what he was thinking when he wrote this. Maybe I didn't pick up on his moralistic anti-capitalism before.To some extent, I guess it's simply an example of old-time, small town America stories of romance where people are too morally upright in public.However, the main character is the local teacher who questions his vocation. He's decided book learning isn't making the children happy.Knowing arithmetic simply enables them to cheat and rob, like the local wealthy farmer in the story. Is he happy however? It didn't stop his daughter from being forced by pregnancy to marry her boyfriend.Everything is told in an elliptical, sad and moody way. The overall message seems to be that people should just be happy farmers who can't add and subtract, instead of giving in to the modern world that's going downhill.In the end the teacher is fired, and who can blame the parents for being unhappy with him? Not I?

Not "Holiday" Reading By True GRITS (Girl Raised in the South) Being unfamiliar with this author, and selecting the book simply based on its title, I found it interesting reading for myself as a middle-aged adult. I had hoped this could be a book used in homeschooling and while it might be appropriate for mature teenagers, it most likely would not hold their attention. The overall tone is somewhat hopeless. The characters are portrayed as victims of their circumstances and death is a welcome reprieve from this world. I think the setting of autumn is superimposed upon the characters facing the autumn of their lives and the regrets of life. One previous reviewer described the book as "joyous" but I did not find that to be the case. Another reviewer described the book as "fantasy" and I cannot say as I would place this book in that genre, either. I enjoy reading older works of fiction and this did have some wonderful literary devices and could bring up all sorts of discussions regarding character, setting, and plots. However, it is not light-hearted nostalgia for the autumn season.
