From the beginning, this book drew me into the world of the Legends of Ansu. The story moves quickly and it is hard to put the book down to take a break. This is not my usual genre, and the author is British, so I had to adjust a little bit to that. However, it did not interrupt the flow of the story and once I was immersed, it was not noticeable. For those who have not read the first one, you can catch up pretty quickly. I recommend this book as one to read when you get snowed in or on a plane ride - you won't want to stop!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Exhilarating Read - Loved it! By Mindy An exhilarating read, fastpaced and energetic. The characters come alive,both good and bad. I especially loved the tense friction between the mercenary, Corin, and Queen Ariane, can't wait to see what happens there! I read mostly general fiction rather than fantasy, but this book stands out as a terrific story, both easy to read and hard to put down. Loved the drawings too! The book finds the right balance between action and myth. It's a lot of fun, so happy there's a sequel coming!.

The characters played well off of each other and the descriptions of these faraway places were so detailed that at times you could feel yourself being drawn into the action. A must read! So looking forward to the next book and the continuation of a fantastic story.

I use this book at the college level as the foundation for my elementary math methods class, but it would be equally as valuable to an elementary teacher. Burns stresses big ideas in teaching conceptual math, not by providing a bunch of printable activities for kids to do that can fragment math skills and be just another worksheet, but by providing hands-on ideas using manipulatives and visuals to help kids see the meaning in math. All the activities are set in the context of what good math teaching is, which is clearly explained and emphasized in areas from classroom management to assessment.

The chapters are well organized and the math activities and questions can be used in the classroom. I find this book easy to read and understand--no unnecessary jargon for newer teachers. Clear and concise. Love it.

As a math specialist, I am using this book to gain a deeper understanding of math and how it is taught at the Elementary level. This is a great resource for specialists, sped teachers, and classroom teachers.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I loved it By not joking I really enjoyed this. Plenty of shifting and wolfy stuff. Loved the hero and heroine. There was an awful lot of repetition of words which a good editor could correct. Also the hero had a Scottish endearment for the heroine which according to my kindle was used 81 times! Jeez, look up a few different ones in any Gaelic/Scottish/English dictionary. Lastly, this was written some time ago with quite the cliffie so for those who can't stand an unfinished melody I would recommend you put it on your TBR pile until we see if the writer publishes the next story.

Monica Connell has such a gift of beautifully describing the details of her surroundings that I now have this very vivid picture of this Donegal town in my mind. It is amazing to think that this book is about an Irish town in the nineties, instead of much earlier, as it seems such a basic and hard way of life.As it is a description of this Donegal town in the nineties, I am curious to know what happened to the town and the people in the book.The way Monica Connell described her early life and her father, moved me to tears. Her father must have been an impressive and special man.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I Did It My Way By Gilbert B. Cross John Barr writes with an honesty and candor seldom found in books like this. The emotion is raw, and the author does not shy away from confessing behavior that will not win him any friends and will certainly influence a lot of people. This isn't a book about how to be a substitute teacher; it's a deeply personal account of the author's treatment of and by authority. The reader feels John is a very good teacher who is utterly incapable of suffering fools gladly. Unfortunately, as I myself know, there are a lot of fools in teaching, some in high places. Pat Conroy's The Water is Wide is another example of administrative shortsightedness. Perhaps it is even more than that--it is the resistance of those who feel they have found the light and do not wish to see newcomers strike out on their own. Read this book for a searing look into a man incapable of following Mahatma Gandhi's advice: "This is an issue about which we do not choose to fight."
