This book is a result of a few decades of people work. The author writes in a concrete and precise manner about Love, referring to many kinds of experience and levels (social, psychological, inner, and existential). It is a book worth studying. It gives a reliable introduction to the topic and guides us through a labyrinth of issues connected with love. The author makes us aware that if we want to experience love, we may and we ought to direct our effort. He points out that the state of Love is a basis of our achievements, personal happiness and development. Thanks to the fact that the book is a closing of many years’ work with people, it provides us with our reflection, like a mirror. ”The Art of Three Loves” is for everyone, regardless of age and beliefs, it is for the people interested in quality of interhuman relations and quality of life. The book is an invitation to travel, in accordance with the credo:”Know thyself”. We may see our reflection in the pages of this book, like in a mirror and we may look for answers to questions: which part of the journey am I in right now? Where am I headed and what do I need to gather “sweet fruit”? Thanks to the book we learn that Love, which h a p p e n s regardless of our will and whim, can still be ”helped” by us, by meeting the necessary requirements: by becoming ready to meet It. Today’s world presents the issue of love mostly as a romantic tale, both in cinema and literature, simultaneously awakening great longing for something unrealistic. ”The Art of Three Loves” is a response to this state. It is a collection of practical hints as to the things that hinder us, things we should avoid and things we should develop to experience fulfilling relations. Everyone who approaches love, development and the things of meaning with courage ought to read that book. When we develop a relationship or a relation, we most often lack the knowledge”how is it supposed to be.” ”How is it supposed to be” to make a relation lasting and fulfilling, to make relations proper and leading to happiness. ”The Art of Three Loves” is a kind of a handbook, pointing out to those elements and events that help and those that hinder us in relation building. It provides both basic psychological knowledge and the deeper knowledge stemming from the work with people. It is a read for everyone who seriously takes the development and right relation building, which supports our development.

A fascinating and practical book about relationships, their development and the issue of Universal Love By Xiau Eddie Izzard in his latest “Force Majeure” Tour makes fun of the topic of religion and then asks a valid question: if this approach does not work, then, which one does?“The Art of Three Loves” poses exactly the same question, but with its main focus on relationships. If this approach does not work, which one does then? The book is different however, in the respect that it does not provide answers, it provides us with the way to find our own answers. It is not a psychological advice book, nor a philosophical work.It is written from a point of view of a man of practical experience, somebody who worked with people and can ask that exact question: what does work, then? And, since we are all touched by that existential issue, the book is valid for everyone, single, married and undecided people. I hope the attached book fragment will help you make your judgement. Please let us know whether we should send over a copy for evaluation. We hope to hear of your interest in the book.

A billy club came down hard on the woman's brow. The moment Olivia Kirby noticed the outraged policeman's hand lift, she had whirled around. Facing him directly, she reacted. Her camera was fully loaded, and she shot a sequence of the police officer hurling a barrage of blows. stunned women surrounded the scene. Every filament of thought became mystical and far away. Several screams lifted and ricocheted around the barroom, as if coming from a different planet. Things were different in the gay and lesbian world of the mid-sixties. It was a precarious era, as photographer Olivia Kirby would learn. Human beings reside within the heart of time. We are born inside a slot of Actuality. Our soul lights up at the time and place where we become our own. Olivia had just moved to Denver, Colorado. She entered the shabby lesbian bar, were she witnessed the commission of a crime. From then on she was endangered--hunted by the killer. terrified, she hid out--and hoped. Hatred and bigotry are always dangerous enemies--and Olivia was encountering them. On the way to saving herself--she fell in love. It was then she realized the true lesson of romance and friendship. If love is the art of shelter--maybe we can all become more cognizant of taking care of one another--sheltering one another.

Thomas Loitering on the Frontier by Kieran York is a wonderful walk through Lesbian (and some Gay) history during that heady time in the 1960s when the police brutality and harassment of those years seems not so very different from what we are witnessing in 2015 toward various marginalized groups, including the GLBTQ communities. In 2015, whether the abuse, including killings, comes from bad cops or just bad people, York makes a compelling case for replacing loitering with decisive action. And someone from the 1960s lesbian communities would know the simultaneous appeal and danger of mere loitering. The crux of the story is what the protagonist does after she photographs a cop beating an older lesbian who subsequently dies from her injuries. York has accurately captured the vernacular, the issues and the ever-present topics of discussion about equality and fairness that were top priority during those times.Numerous historical events dovetailed to create the perfect storm of upheaval during the 1960s. There was: The rise of Feminism; the issues that brought about the ultimate showdown at the Stonewall at the end of the ‘60s; the encroaching threat of the poorly understood disease of AIDS; and a new sensibility of what it meant to be the largely invisible “L” in the GLBT acronym. All these influences conspired to create a history of lesbian activism and ethical standards of sisterhood that informs the “L” of the present day. Our historical ancestors from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s were aware of their power, but they were then just learning how to leverage it. The challenge continues to this day. When the photographer who captured the beating is herself threatened with bodily harm, the combination of some good cops, some good friends, a good family member, a good romantic interest and a damn good sense of ethics conspire to see justice served. Doing so is not without it’s complications, however.York captures the tension of the times in the context of an intriguing storyline. Her competency with the language is top-notch and one cares about the characters and the outcome of the story. Back in the day, as they say, was a contradictory time in which the self-protective adage of “don’t get involved” met the conflicted urge to “stand up for oneself and others.”York is true to the times and sensitive to the myriad of issues, including oppositional political positions, within the lesbian community. Having been a small part of those times, I was frequently amazed at the dedication and seriousness with which a small part of the lesbian subculture confronted the issues while most of us were going to bars, parties and giving a small curtsey to the “movement” by throwing away our bras. But many did not grasp the larger issues or the impact of history until much later; it is no wonder, then, that many of today’s younger lesbians have but a smattering of familiarity with the way it was not so very long ago. We’re talking 45-50 years ago. Most of us were “loitering”—it was a brave, new (more or less) ‘out there’ world among Gay men. Lesbians mostly went along for the ride in the relative safety of not being taken seriously, a dubious “benefit” that provided us many freedoms and much “cover” in the short run but presented a maddening public disregard and disrespect in the long run. But a special contingent of those early lesbians did take action, did put their lives on the line for the greater good and did suffer personal demons throughout.I highly recommend this book. Important issues of historical accuracy and prevailing sentiment are always best served when in the capable hands of a poet and scribe such as York.

"Loitering on the Frontier " is no exception. The endearing characters were well defined and likable . The evil persons cruel, threatening and had me worried until the conclusion. The twists and turns involved in this mystery were plotted so well that I worried for my favorites. The Romance was sweet and believable. I loved them. The facts and conditions which represented the times were factual and written by someone who lived through the era. I am always impressed with Ms York's writings and was not disappointed. A must read !

Police brutality and hate were the norm. Her characters in book portray what it meant to be a lesbian at this time in history. They feared for their life, but at the same time, were strong enough to stand up against bigotry and hate and bring a dirty cop to justice.

Amongst the tips on how to improve your decision making skills, the author mentions more exercise, a better diet, to meditate and engage in social life. The benefits in doing so include fewer misunderstandings and - check this out - better genes.A quote: "If you include the habit of critical thinking into your life on a daily basis, then you can imbibe it in your genes. And once it is completely imbibed and a part and parcel of your DNA, then you will pass it on to the next generation. You will help your children and grand children develop the same habits as you and thereby create a bright future for them. And if you can get your partner to join in and practice critical thinking on a daily basis, then you will double the chance of your kids developing the habit and consequently leading better lives."Having just spent 2 hours reading this book on problem solving, all I am left with is - funny enough - a problem: how to get my $10 back. (Unfortunately, the book doesn't provide any guidance..)

Something is wrong with Cooper. He’s plagued by a fear he doesn’t understand and can’t control. Cooper just wants to escape, and a summer vacation aboard the restored cabin cruiser, The Getaway, with best friends Gordy, Hiro, and Lunk seems like the perfect way to do it. Two weeks of fun—with no mysteries or life-and-death danger. That’s the plan.

But their plans are shattered the very first night when they witness a murder. Or did they? Despite their intentions of leaving the investigation to the police, narrow misses and creepy encounters lure them in. Is there really a body floating in the underwater currents of the lake? The closer they get to the truth, the deeper into danger they get. Too late they see the trap. Now each of them must face their own buried fears . . . just below the surface.

Below the Surface (A Code of Silence Novel), by Tim Shoemaker

From School Library Journal Gr 7 Up—Four teenagers planning to spend a quiet summer together at the lake find themselves solving a murder in Shoemaker's third "Code of Silence" novel. Unfortunately, most savvy readers will solve the crime well before the characters do. Without the distraction of a well-plotted mystery, readers will notice the unrealistic dialogue and behavior of characters, and perhaps be hindered by an overabundance of description. Modern readers used to the strength and ingenuity of characters like Hermione and Katniss won't appreciate the book's portrayal of its few female characters as anxious and physically weak. While parents may appreciate the lack of sex, drugs, and cursing, this is not a book that many young teens will flock to read.—Sarah Jones, Clinton-Macomb Public Library, MI

In this series you follow a group of friends as they encounter life head on. Each story has character development aspect that everyone can learn from woven seamlessly into the story. They are written for Middle Readers, but as an adult I enjoyed this series just as I enjoy many YA books. I have read the first two books in the series to my kids and I can't wait to read this one to them as well.Below the surface is a suspenseful, action-packed book that turns the pages itself. It talks about Fear. Knowing when fear is a good thing and when it is bad. Knowing how to handle fear and overcome it. Knowing when to run and when to face your fear. Tim Shoemaker is a masterful writer that dares to think outside the box and teach lessons through his stories. The Discussion Questions at the back of the book are a great way to cover the deep topics that this series covers with your kids. I was amazed at the what a great discussion I was able to have with my kids after reading these books to them.Code of Silence, book one of the series, covers the topic of honesty. Not telling the truth or withholding information can not only weigh you down with guilt and a burden that is hard to carry, but it can hurt you and those around you. Fast paced, full of mystery and suspense.Back before Dark, book two of the series, covers the topic of abduction. It is a difficult subject to talk about with your kids, we all know stranger danger, but do our kids really get the full concept? I had that talk with my kids on more than one occasion, but still I find them talking to strangers in a store or at a park. Usually I'm close by, but what if I wasn't. Back before Dark takes a look at how you should react and ways to protect yourself. The story is full of twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. The trilogy as a whole also holds another overall theme. It clearly shows how to be a good friend in a variety of ways. Throughout the series there is a lot of advice on various topics woven into the story so that kids can learn, and adults can remember, from these examples. I rated each of the books as 5 Stars, I hope that you will take the time to read them and enjoy them as I have. Consider reading them to your kids, (depending on their ages, you might want to read them first yourself to make sure that your kids are ready for the story). Take the time to read this series, it is not only a great story, but a fun lesson for you kids.

A Possible Murder, Missing Girl Mystery Thriller By VicG Tim Shoemaker in his new book, “Below The Surface” Book Three in the Code of Silence Series published by Zondervan gives us Fear can be buried…but that doesn’t mean it’s dead. From the back cover: He believed he’d beaten his fear. Killed it months ago. But he’d only buried it. Fear has a way of resurrecting itself, and right now it was crawling up his throat.Something is wrong with Cooper. The closer they get to the truth, the deeper into danger they get. Too late they see the trap. Now each of them must face their own buried fears . . . just below the surface.Fear is not dealt with has the potential to kill and certainly destroy. This is the main theme that is running through “Below The Surface”. There is fear of the water and fear of being alone to name just a few that are explored in this story. Cooper and the gang may have witnessed a murder and a girl is possibly missing. Now they have to determine is what they saw correct and what about the girl? This is a story about friendship and what it means to have our friends. It also deals slightly with the impact of male leadership from an adult. In addition to everything it is also a page-turning, you won’t be able to figure it out mystery thriller. This book is supposed to be written for young adults but I have news for you this book should also be read by the adults as well. This is good stuff. Cooper, Hiro, Gordy and Lunk are wonderful characters that are bright, resourceful and full of faith. “Below The Surface” is a book that will keep you up late into the night flipping pages as fast as you can read. I recommend this book with enthusiasm.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Zondervan. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I know, I know….we are all adults here… but some of you might have children who love to read just as much as you and those kids might want to read more of the things that you read. This trilogy is awesome and I would highly recommend it for the ages above (my daughter has even read it, she’s 8, but reads well above her grade level). There is still a lot of mystery and suspense, but without any of the gratuitous violence, sex, drug use, etc. that we see in books aimed more towards older audiences. I was excited to see this book come up on the blog tour because my son had actually read the first two books and loved them and he’ll definitely be reading this one. This is part of a trilogy but you don’t have to have read the first two to enjoy it. Of course, it will give you more insight to the characters and more understanding of situations that are referenced (such as Gordy being kidnapped), but you won’t be completely lost. The past experiences that are referenced all culminate and have a direct impact on our characters in this book. Cooper, Gordy, Lunk and Hiro are all burying fears and this summer vacation together is going to test the bond of their friendship. It’s the last summer before Cooper, Gordy, Lunk and Hiro start high school and they are all spending it together. While waiting on Coop’s dad’s boat for Lunk to arrive, Cooper, Gordy, and Hiro witness a crime. But something about the whole situation doesn’t add up in Hiro’s mind and she’s determined to find out the truth; even if she has to do it all on her own. Unfortunately, Hiro is usually right. A series of events are set in motion where the past and all of their fears begin haunting the group. But someone is determined to keep them from discovering the truth and he isn’t beyond silencing them forever.I like the life lessons that Mr. Shoemaker puts into his books. He tackles some subjects that you might not even think about discussing with your kids, but the stories actually open up an avenue to discuss them. Friendship is another great theme in his books. Being a good friend is introduced in a variety of ways. If you have younger children I high recommend this series. Adults will even enjoy it; so read it first to make sure that it’s material that they will understand. This is more than a great book, but a lesson that I am sure your kids won’t even realize they are getting!

Self-proclaimed international treasure Gough Whitlam never shied away from a pun, a put-down or a witticism. In this collection of quotes, stories and famous witty remarks, James Carleton, radio presenter and founder of the university club 'The Dewy-Eyed Whitlamites', presents a keepsake of Goughisms that vindicates the Great Man's self-assessment: 'I never said I was immortal, merely eternal.' His wife Margaret was his 'best appointment', he called Malcolm Fraser 'Kerr's cur' after the Dismissal and when Sir Winton Turnbull called out in parliament 'I am a country member', Gough interjected 'I remember'. When it was suggested he was funny, Gough responded: 'Funny! Funny? Witty, yes. Epigrammatic perhaps, but not funny. You make me sound like a clown.'

Naturalizing Digital Immigrants: The Power of Collegial Coaching for Technology Integration, by Katie Alaniz, Dawn Wilson

Review This book provides a practical, flexible roadmap for school leaders who would like to help teachers begin to successfully use technology to increase student learning – or increase the effectiveness of their current technology integrations. Based on a sound philosophical and empirical foundation, the authors describe a practical process that is likely to work much better than traditional in-service. They provide sufficient detail so that someone could actually implement their suggestions. (Linda Brupbacher, professor emerita, taught for 44 years at both the elementary and university level, 2008 Texas Piper Professor)What I liked most about this book is the pairing of collegial coaching and technology. Although I have heard about some of the ‘best practices’ and processes in which instructional technologists engage as well as actively sought them out myself (however poorly), I have seldom seen a guidebook or a roadmap to success that fundamentally addresses the issues so well. (Miguel Guhlin, author and director of technology operations, Texas, recipient of the ISTE "Making IT Happen" Award, president of Technology Education Coordinators)[This book] helped me refocus on what the essential goal of technology integration is. I completely agree with [the book’s assertion] that coaches need to be able to personalize their work. Their strategies for helping peers integrate technology are going to vary from colleague to colleague based on their peers’ needs. And I think [the book is] right on the target when [it] talk[s] about focusing on student learning as the key to effective tech integration. (Les Foltos, director of educational innovation at Peer-Ed,author of “Peer Coaching: Unlocking the Power of Collaboration”)

About the Author Katie Alaniz is an instructor of graduate education courses at Houston Baptist University in Houston, Texas, where she works with master’s level students seeking to make a positive impact in schools and society. Additionally, as an instructional technologist and computer teacher at River Oaks Baptist School in Houston, Katie guides and supports fellow faculty members in incorporating educationally enriching technological tools within their classroom learning environments. Her research and writing interests include instructional technology, collegial coaching, and teacher education.Dawn Wilson taught middle school math for sixteen years before becoming a full time faculty member and professor of educational technology at Houston Baptist University for the last twelve years. In this position, she has mentored university and K12 teachers as they learn how to integrate instructional technology in the classroom across a variety of disciplines. After spending most of his life in special schools, Caleb Stone now faces public high school in his senior year, a prospect that both excites him and threatens to overwhelm his social anxiety. As a deaf teenager, he’s closed himself off to the world. He speaks a shorthand with his parents and even finds it hard to use American Sign Language with people in his local deaf community. But Caleb finds comfort in his love of photography. Everything he can’t express in real life, he posts on his Tumblr. Struggling to reconcile his resentment for his father's cruelty with the grief of losing a parent, Luc Le Bautillier scrolls through Tumblr searching for someone who might understand his goth look and effeminate nature. When Luc reblogs a photo by Caleb, sparking a conversation, they both find it easier to make friends online than in person. Luc and Caleb confront their fears about the opinions of the outside world to meet in New York City. Despite Caleb’s increasing confidence, his parents worry he’s not ready for the trials ahead. But communication comes in many forms—when you learn the signs.

Me too, with this book...so, you can imagine my surprise when I swipe across the screen and that's it! It's done. It's over. Just like that. Gah! So frustrating. Is this a bad thing? Or a sign of a very good writer? I'm inclined to think that Anna Martin isn't just a very talented storyteller but also a masterminding self-promoter, salesperson, swindler (lol jk) because now I feel the need to search out her other books and stalk her media platforms for any sign of a sequel.A sequel would be so welcome because I hadn't nearly enough time to enjoy Caleb and Luc. Their relationship was really just beginning, and while I see the value of the hopeful ending as is, I feel like I've been broken up with unexpectedly with no closure. So, how do I move on? I just don't know (besides the aforementioned stalking, that is).At this point, you're probably wondering why "Signs" would warrant stalking, so I'll tell you:It's a story about a young man, Caleb, who is deaf, but is much more than his deafness. And, it's a story of young man, Luc, who is a little on the outside (Lonely? Broken? Misunderstood?), but embraces it. It's all about their getting to know one another and falling in love and finding their way through life as a team- whether it's helping Caleb with his poor communication skills or Luc find peace with unchangeable things. It's a beautiful story, without the need for any superfluous extras. It's worth the read. And, it's worthy of a sequel, too.

I thought the characters were very realistic, and I got sucked into their story very quickly. New to me author but now I've read two I'll be definitely more. This was a very nice story with a lot of interest in it, and I learned a lot. Two nice you g men trying to help each other as much as they could - a very equitable relationship. I didn't think the writing style translated into a good reading style at the beginning, but either I got used to it or it improved. I liked the way the author ex-plained how she had chosen to write the ASL.What a beautiful story of healing, love, growth, independence, and the discovery of strength between two young men: Luc and Caleb. I wish this story had been placed in the YA category because the MCs were both high school seniors on the precipice of adulthood, but being in the gay contemporary romance category, I can still give this book a high score, but I really feel as if this story resonates stronger with a younger audience. I know that as a father when it comes to books, any books, especially YA books I read them with an eye toward if I think they would be acceptable for my daughter. As I read this I saw my daughter within the character of Luc. A hurting character, broken and fragile inside, who tries to appear unflappable, unfeeling, and uncaring, but is actually, deep, selfless, intelligent, talented, and extremely giving. Just as Luc found his Caleb, someone with inner strength despite the circumstances and hardships thrown at him, determined to succeed, someone who brings out the best in Luc, I want my own daughter to find her "Caleb" or "Cala". These characters were so beautifulły portrayed that I was emotionally invested in them and found myself cheering them on throughout the book. The setting of the book was easy for me to immerse myself in, though perhaps that is because I used to live in New York, but the author's style of writing took me right back there. The only downfall is that every so often there would be an abrupt shift in the POV from Caleb to Luc or vice versa. It was jarring. Other than that, This was an amazing read and I immediately recommended it to my daughter.

Love how the author did not fall back on using angst and instead told a story of dealing with life and what happened finding that one person that makes everything ok. If you are looking for a great feel good story, this is the story.

The Dragon Court has ruled Tiamut uncontested for millennia, bringing knowledge and prosperity to all. Yet all is not as it seems---far to the West in the land of Undal, mightiest of the nations, the Royal Queen and her children are struck with a mysterious illness and perish. Was the Dragon Court responsible? Or had the Queen had been experimenting with dark magic? Her grieving son, trained in the dark arts by the goddess Eris herself, swears vengeance. When he defies the Dragon Court and they rescind their blessing on his royal house, he must turn to his mother's experiments and ancient blood rituals to achieve his aims. In his quest for truth he will become the greatest threat Tiamut has ever known. With details pulled directly from Plato (yes, THAT Plato), The Emerald Tablets of Thoth, Sumerian and Egyptian mythology, The Doom of Undal tells the story of the Fall of Atlantis.

The Doom of Undal (Dragon Court Book 2), by Katrina Sisowath

From the Author This is the second book in the Dragon Court series and it is a duology--the second half, titled "The Fall of Undal" will be coming out Summer/Autumn this year. Why is it in two parts? Well, based on feedback I received on Serpent Priestess of the Annunaki, where quite a few readers felt it was densely packed and could have been stretched into two or three books, I took that feedback to heart and bore it in mind when writing this book. It is a story that involves many characters over a long period of time and a global conflict. So rather than leaving out pivotal events, I and those who have been helping me (editors, beta-readers) felt it better to split it in two. It is still fast-paced and doesn't resort to filler (If my opinion on it counts--hopefully readers agree).

About the Author Katrina Sisowath ,(1979--) British-American, born in Frankfurt, Germany. Grew up in South-east Asia and Europe, now lives in England. Mother of 2.5 children (dog thinks he's human), experienced in making brownies. On a personal level, Katrina is an avid book reader and loves mythology, history, ancient civilizations and anything to do with occult ideologies and practices. Mages, Serpent Priestesses and the 'real' Gods, aka the ANNUNAKI(the prototypes for those we know today in the form of Greek, Roman, Indian and even the Biblical characters) are all addressed on her website, with descriptions of Dragons, consciousness altering drinks and powders and what the scarlet clad priestesses really got up to in their sacred chamber. She also is a guest writer on Ancient Origins, writing about the Serpent Cult, Mystery Schools and their politico-military branches.'Serpent Priestess of the Annunaki', published by 5 Prince Publishing was released June 19, 2014, quickly rising up the Mythology charts, becoming a best-seller. A second book, The Doom of Undal, was released April 2, 2015, with the follow on, The Fall of Undal, due to be released later this year

The Doom of Undal - A Dark Epic for Historical-Fiction Readers By S E Lindberg Anunnaki Deities: Katrina Sisowath’s Dragon Court series fictionalizes the plight of the royal Anunnaki. Note, the Anunnaki were actual ancient Mesopotamian deities of the Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian, and Babylonian cultures. Katrina Sisowath regularly publishes on Ancient_Origins.Net and drew upon her expertise to construct a deep, believable world including: (a) blood-letting rituals of mystery cults, (b) alchemy-based magic, poisons and drugs, and (c) grand architecture expected of ancient times. The world is very immersive and believable. Alien references are relegated to subtle steampunk details; on the continuum of sci-fi to fantasy, this leans heavily toward epic-historical-fantasy.Royal Blood and Family Conflict: Sisowath writes in a very contemporary way, but The Doom of Undal’s mythical tone, use of humanoid gods, and epic nature is reminiscent of E.R. Eddison classic The Worm Ouroboros. Sisowath’s ancient Kings and Queens have dragon blood within their veins, but their inner monster/alien nature is suppressed as they rule over humans. Their curse/blessing manifests in various abilities which have associated temples to nurture/worship. The degree to which this eldritch power is overtly expressed drives the conflict. The balance of family legacy versus one’s own desires are constantly tested.Epic Pace and Dark Themes: As many fantasy novels, there are many characters. Four emerge as our key guides, three of which are sisters (Rhea, Hathor, and Sobekh) and the last is a male from a different family (Cronous). We are first introduced to the three sisters when children; as they become parents their own duties pits sister against sister. Dark undertones simmer for the first 2/3rds of the book; the conflict boils over for the last 1/3rd… and truly lives up to the promises dark cover (my version depicts an imminent sacrifice of a pregnant women laying on an altar).More Dragon Court: I read The Doom of Undal without reading the prequel Serpent Priestess of the Annunaki; however, I followed and enjoyed the story well enough to consider this a decent starting-point. The Doom of Undal itself is part one of duology; the second half, titled "The Fall of Undal" is due out later 2015. After reading this first half, I can’t imagine not picking up the second part to get closure on the fate of the land and characters.Definitely recommended for epic fantasy readers who enjoy some history and are not afraid of darkness.

This is the second of the Dragon Court Series where the Annunaki descendents continue within this new planet, contributed by Lord Enki and Priestess Ninkha. This story begins a little before the ending of the first book with the Annunaki children spreading out to become Magi’s and Priests/Priestesses of several different location. They have now formed an allegiance known as the Dragon Court. As they have lived peacefully for a thousand years, all too quickly does another threat comes to the surface. Three sisters, princesses of Magan’s King and Queen have reached the age of eleven where they must be tested and placed into their rightful training. Once they have fully grown, the sisters settle on their desired paths. The title of this story, The Doom of Undal, signifies that an impending doom comes to Undal but how…and what is the reasoning behind such drastic measures? How are the three princesses involved? My favorite character in this story is Hathor; this is one of the three sisters from Magan. She has an unusual childhood which includes a near drowning; however, Innana, the Priestess of Shiimti and daughter of Ninka, is summoned for her help. Hathor leaves with her to be trained in the Temple of Love. Hathor’s strength and courage, with what she must endure, is tremendous. I admire this character for finding hope when all seems lost in a world full of false beauty. Cronous is my least favorite character, since the loss of his mother and siblings from a mysterious poison, cause his insanity to heighten. His insatiable lust for death becomes prevalent which causes mistrust, violence and innocent bloodshed. Both characters captivated my attention and drew my further into the progression of the story where promises were tested and loyalties tempted.I recommend this story to those who enjoy Mythology, Fantasy and/or Science Fiction. Since reading the first of this series, I have learned that several of these names and meanings are from mythology. This author does an outstanding job with creating this world among other worlds. Not only does she create the world, but she also manifests new species and characterizations. I rate this book with five stars due to the raw-talent and attention to detail that is succumbed to the characters and emotions presented in this novel as well as how I was able to relate to them. I look forward to reading the next in the series which sounds like it may be even darker.

Simply Amazing By SacredGeometryBlog The Doom of Undal is a follow up of the wonderful Serpent Priestess of the Annunaki and Katrina Sisowath once again surprises us with a unique take on human history. This time the author taps into the mystery surrounding ancient Egyptian and Greek deities, Hathor, Rhea and Cronus. The novel weaves together powerful stories of these three main characters, starting when they were children, continuing after they part and resulting in their ultimate reunion. As much as I adored both Hathor’s and Rhea’s journey and the intriguing view on the feminine mystique that was also present in Katina Sisowath’s previous novel, I found the Cronus character a particularly fascinating driving force. I have always been curious about this deity, the shadow aspect of ancient Greek mythology, as there were so many odd things written about him. And after reading this novel I began to view him in a whole new light. He’s a very interesting character who starts off as a likeable hero, but grows more in tune with his shadow aspect as the story progresses. The love story between him and Rhea is captivatingly chilling. They bond when they’re quite young and set off to a romantic destiny driven romance until things go awry. His future is foreshadowed as a dark one but I still hope that perhaps he would choose a path to light after all.The ending of this novel is a true cliffhanger. It makes you want to read on, you feel like you need to know more. All together it’s a challenging take on mythology and history. The author clearly made a thorough research and I found her view on the legendary gods and goddesses, the myth of Atlantis and the enigma behind Thoth’s Emerald Tablets very refreshing.I think Katrina Sisowath’s work is truly one of a kind. She writes unique atmospheric novels with masterfully built plots and characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read the next part.

The Grimm Legacy By Star @ The Bibliophilic Book Blog There are many new books, movies, and TV shows which are bringing back the true Grimm tales, which were dark, nasty, and oh so good. In The Grimm Legacy, Janie Grimm lost her father 6 months ago to what she believed was cancer and now she's going to law school with the inheritance she received. However, on her first day, she meets an enchanted frog prince and from there her life is turned upside down. She now has to deal with the Grimm Legacy and defeat the evil faerie queen who cursed her and her father. I loved this story, the characters, and the unique twist on the Grimm family history. Janie was strong and determined, yet tenderly vulnerable. Ms. King made me laugh out loud and bite my nails all within the same paragraph. The Grimm Legacy is an excellent novel and I'd love to read more about Janie and her family in the future!

The Grimm Legacy brings new life to old fairy tales by adding modern twists and new characters, but maintains the familiar qualities that we hold dear. For anyone who enjoyed fairy tales growing up and would like a more adult revisit. I hope the author writes more!!

I saw the title and thought I would take a small peek, just to get a slight heads up before heading to bed. Man I was so not able to put it down. If you like stories about the super natural you will love this one. It is complex, entertaining, drag you in by the seat of your pants!I could not put it down, I did put my child to bed. Then I opened the file thinking a quick peek like I said earlier, but then midnight came and went and I was still reading. I will not tell you any spoiler for this book, but it is a must read. It made me feel like I was right there trying to help this young girl figure out what was going on in her life. A GREAT book, must make you feel. This one did that!!

It’s just a trail.  2660 miles of dirt, sand, gravel, granite, lava and pine needles.  It cares not who treads on its ever changing surface.  Its very existence depends on the footsteps of those who navigate its pathway.  Reaching the end of this 2 foot wide track a person finds themselves at the end of something that goes on in every aspect of their life.  A deep inner emotion grips at your soul, one that can only be understood by those who have also walked along this seemingly never ending trail.

On Sunday afternoon of April 7th Quentin (Family Man) along with his dad, Donald (Stagecoach) left the monument along the Mexican border for the ultimate hike along the most prestigious trail in the western United States.  Five months later they arrived at the northern terminus on the afternoon of September 7th.

The agony they experience was dwarfed by the God inspiring landscaped.  From the hot arid desert of southern California to the snow covered High Sierra Mountains.  They traversed the pine covered wilderness areas of northern California and Oregon.  They climbed the lava flows of Oregon and crossed the Bridge of the Gods on the Columbia River.  Washington State would not go without a fight as they climbed the alpine mountains and crossed swollen rivers.  Walking late into the night and waking as a new day brings predawn light to the eastern sky, Stagecoach and Family Man experienced what few have.  Day by day the layers of modern life were peeled from their cluttered conscious allowing the miracles of God to be revealed.

Halfway Home: The Story of a Father and Son Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, by Donald Reavis, Quentin Reavis

Review Halfway Home by Don Reavis is a candid, prose topographical map of both the Pacific Crest Trail experience and the hearts of a father and son who hiked more than 2600 miles together. Don tells it like it is mile by dusty mile, day after grueling day, mountain thunderstorm and desert sun. The story begins with a hiking dream and the reader joins the author in the journey as the joyful naiveté of two moderately experienced, enthusiastic hikers matures into wisdom, experience and a deepening walk with God. Along the journey, Don offers practical insight into hiking strategies, trail wisdom and deep insight into the emotions of long distance hiking. The story concludes with a sincere contemplation of relationships between people and relationships between wilderness life and modern society.

By C Westbrook Nice people, loved the humor, really appreciate their faith BUT I did not appreciate the condescending and negative comments toward day and section hikers. What brand of clothes were you wearing? How much hiking did you do before hiking the PCT? At least these people are out there and probably didn’t have pre diabetes due to weigth and inactivity. Section hikers stopped at 7? MOST thru hikers are in bed by sundown. Physical and mental pain? How about stopping earlier and go to bed like most thru hikers instead of hiking well past dark? Kind of selfish of your son to push you to do 40’s when he knew how bad your knees were doing. I didn't get that.It sounds like I didn't like the book. I really did and I really liked the people. There were just a few times his negative attitude toward others really bothered me. Probably hit a nerve.

I read it along with having a map so I could see the area they were in and the part traveled each day. I was really excited about the last chapter because I hiked the trail from Canada to I-90 about 20 years ago and to hear their account of the trail brought back many memories. One thing that stuck with me was the trail angels and that's something I want to do in my retirement.

By Julie Rasmussen A great read about a father and son walking from the Mexico border to the Canadian border. Stagecoach describes the trail in detail. The ups and downs of existing in nature and the challenges of walking 2600 miles are brought to life in this book. It was great to meet and walk in the woods with this pair of good souls. Reading the book brought back many sweet memories. Thanks for sharing your story, Oakdale

PDF Ebook The Red Army and the Great Terror: Stalin's Purge of the Soviet Military (Modern War Studies), by Peter Whitewood

On June 11, 1937, a closed military court ordered the execution of a group of the Soviet Union's most talented and experienced army officers, including Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevskii; all were charged with participating in a Nazi plot to overthrow the regime of Joseph Stalin. There followed a massive military purge, from the officer corps through the rank-and-file, that many consider a major factor in the Red Army's dismal performance in confronting the German invasion of June 1941. Why take such action on the eve of a major war? The most common theory has Stalin fabricating a "military conspiracy" to tighten his control over the Soviet state. In The Red Army and the Great Terror, Peter Whitewood advances an entirely new explanation for Stalin's actions—an explanation with the potential to unlock the mysteries that still surround the Great Terror, the surge of political repression in the late 1930s in which over one million Soviet people were imprisoned in labor camps and over 750,000 executed.Framing his study within the context of Soviet civil-military relations dating back to the 1917 revolution, Whitewood shows that Stalin sanctioned this attack on the Red Army not from a position of confidence and strength, but from one of weakness and misperception. Here we see how Stalin's views had been poisoned by the paranoid accusations of his secret police, who saw spies and supporters of the dead Tsar everywhere and who had long believed that the Red Army was vulnerable to infiltration by foreign intelligence agencies engaged in a conspiracy against the Soviet state. Recently opened Russian archives allow Whitewood to counter the accounts of Soviet defectors and conspiracy theories that have long underpinned conventional wisdom on the military purge. By broadening our view, The Red Army and the Great Terror demonstrates not only why Tukhachevskii and his associates were purged in 1937, but also why tens of thousands of other officers and soldiers were discharged and arrested at the same time. With its thorough reassessment of these events, the book sheds new light on the nature of power, state violence, and civil-military relations under the Stalinist regime.

The Red Army and the Great Terror: Stalin's Purge of the Soviet Military (Modern War Studies), by Peter Whitewood

Review "Whitewood has a compelling and original thesis―that Stalin's purge of the military was not a well-planned, premeditated attack on an institution that he feared; rather he was finally convinced to do so after years of attacks on the political reliability of the army by the secret police, who saw spies and provocateurs everywhere within the ranks and command staff. This is completely original and challenges the conventional wisdom which largely has no good answer for why the purges occurred, but rests on the unsubstantiated premise that Stalin was simply consolidating power and rooting out possible sources of opposition."―Roger Reese, author of Red Commanders: A Social History of the Soviet Army Officer Corps, 1918–1991 "This is an excellent work of scholarship on the purges in Stalin's military, one that the field has needed for quite some time. Indeed, there is no other extant book in English on the military purges. I am impressed by the breadth and force of Whitewood’s argument, so much so that I think there will be little point in other scholars going over the same ground again. In addition, Whitewood’s writing is clear and elegant; his source base is thorough; and his argument is important and convincing. Overall, it's an impressive contribution."―David R. Stone, author of Hammer and Rifle: The Militarization of the Soviet Union, 1926–1933

About the Author Peter Whitewood is Lecturer in History and American Studies, at York St. John University in the United Kingdom.

Excellent and highly detailed account and analysis of the attitude of the leadership of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party leading up to the Great Terror of 1936 - 1938. You probably need to be familiar with the subject before reading this book. For example, read The Great Terror by Robert Conquest before reading this book (if you haven't already done so). Whitewood discusses the absolutely paranoid attitude and environment that permeated almost the entire top leadership. Stalin, Yagoda, Yezhov, et. Al. were convinced that Trotsky, the Right Deviationists, Left Opposition, and surviving Whites were infiltrating the Soviet Union and especially the army to mount an internal rebellion or an external invasion. A group of half a dozen people couldn't discuss among themselves Trotsky's criticism of Stalin without getting arrested for anti - Soviet activity and being accused of being part of a vast conspiracy. It was fascinating to read this book just to see the paranoid thinking that affected the country and the devastating effect it eventually had on the military in the summer of 1937.

One of the factors which led to the invasion was his belief that the Red Army was a gutted force due to the purges which took place less than five years before.Whitewood looks at the Red Army purges as not necessarily a random event or the reflex action of the paranoia at the time but as the logical result of events which went back to the Civil War era. The continuing use of former members of the Imperial Army as technical experts, the espionage directed against the USSR in the 1920s and the "trotskyite deviationists" in the Red Army all contributed to the bloodbath which would seriously hurt the leadership of the Red Army in the coming world war. There is one thing that is missing in regards to the story of the Purge in the Red Army and that is the scope and impact of the Red Terror on the PKKA's leadership. Something like 80% of the marshals of the USSR were eliminated, many of the division commanders, military district commanders, etc. Certainly the information is available elsewhere but as long as we are talking about the causes it seems that there should be something on the effects as well.

Miller's review on StrategyPage.Com'Peter Whitewood's well-researched book explores the origins of the suspicion that party officials had about career officers, the "military specialists" the Red Army had desperately needed in the wake of the October Revolution. Many of them were former tsarist army officers or simply guilty of having "bourgeois" origins, others were unrepentant Trotskyists.'From the start Whitewood dismisses as unreliable the accounts of dissidents and defectors. In particular Whitewood omits the testimony of Walter G. Krivitsky to the U.S. Congress in 1939 and to MI5 in 1940 that forged documents prepared by the Gestapo were passed on to the Kremlin. Krivitsky claimed Stalin used these forgeries to unleash the purge.'Whitewood sheds light on some of the mystery, but the deeper secrets of 1937 still elude us.'For the full review, see StrategyPage.Com
