I came across this by accident, and to paraphrase Charles Bukowski--you don't choose the book, the book chooses you. I am so glad I was chosen. Lewis Morris was knighted by Queen Victoria, and other than some association with Oscar Wilde, I can't find much about him.So, What is the Epic of Hades in Three Books about? Hmmm....good question. As I read it, it is a combination of Yeats' imagery, and Dante's Inferno. Though, most certainly, it is an inward Hades. This book contains some of the most beautiful passages I have ever read, although some might consider them dated. Still, turn to almost any random page and you will find something that would make most poets consider a different career. If you are looking for a late 1800's, Yeats-Lovecraft hybrid, with a dab of Dante, and Greek Mythological imagery--this might be your perfect afternoon cup of tea. I still don't know what the story is about, but I am not a plot-queen, and it's his use of words, without being verbose that I enjoy.

Thankfully it is written by an author who is somewhat a child herself, (I think her bio said she was a teenager). You can tell that she herself suffered from some of these dreaded conditions we all have faced. But what makes her stories different is that they are ENTERTAINING. Every short story in this book grabbed my attention and held it throughout the book. Whether you are 10yrs old or 100, this book will keep you turning page after page. In fact, I loved it so much, I read it twice! If your child is experiencing bullying, low self esteem, or feels they don't "fit in", this is the book for them. That is why I used the term Pudding and Pie. This book can show you how to turn sour and hurtful events into something magical and fun. Who says we have to live with the snares of others? I have read all of her books and I am waiting for the next one....Ms. Andres, if you are reading this, please grace us with another one of your wonderfully creative and healing books!

A must have, must read for any parent of a child who is in this sort of situation, be it cruelty of others, or bullying, and or loneliness. I can certainly tell that this book was written by a very strong young woman who has her finger on the pulse of what others in this situation need to know, and she also provides a beautiful bag of mental tools to use in times when things seem bigger than you. I totally recommend this read to anyone, young or old, it's a very important step to taking your life back, taking back the power that someone might have taken from you, or is trying to take from you.

Get Your Bad-Ass On!

The rumble of a Harley... The gleam of black leather... The shine of polished chrome... The freedom of the open road...

Motorcycles meet magic and mayhem as Lance Cosain, the halfling leader of The Wild Hunt MC, protects his turf and his people from attacks ordered by Dair na Scath, the high king of the fae.

Holding his own against rogue fae, redcaps, and the gremlins of the road, all Lance wants to do is settle down with his lady. Instead he goes toe to toe with the high king's champion over an ancient dagger and the claim to a throne.

Who will triumph? The king of the road or the king of the realm? Either way the hunt is on!

Based on the stories "At the Crossroads" and "Within the Guardian Bell" from the award-winning Bad-Ass Faeries Anthology Series.

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Another great story! By L. Pierce Danielle Ackley-McPhail is a master story teller. Her knowledge of fairies and the assorted other beings who populate that world is masterful. This book is another one that surpasses all expectations.Who would have thought biker gangs hid the fae from us mundane people? This book read well and easily. I had to read it twice before I could write this review. She packs so much into the story....Lance is perfect as the fairy/human mix. I watched him look to his human father for things I see the kids I work with everyday do. The reality was there and perfect. Including Suzanne. What she went through and how she did and did not deal with it was very well done. The mad fae king....the halfling that hid his "shame" from the court. So many stories I want to read and hear about.I would love to know the back story about Tilly...Please tell me it's in one of the BAD ASS books Danielle?!?!?As usual, Danielle Ackley-Mcphail has done a fabulous job of telling a story that is out of the ordinary, yet you know people like the characters. Another master piece Danielle! Congratulations!

The Halfling's Court By Star @ The Bibliophilic Book Blog Lance Cosain knows he is a halfling, half-human half-fae, but does not know his true origins. He's the leader of The Wild Hunt Motorcycle Club and he's known as the Wind Walker. He's going to come up against some nasty characters and he'll need the help of his Four Winds and all members of The Wild Hunt MC to come out ahead. He will also be forced to face his true past and can only do so alone. Filled with funny and crafty characters, `The Halfling's Court' is a book you will become engrossed in easily.`The Halfling's Court' is a book with an interesting and diverse set of characters running through them. I absolutely loved the illustrations accompanying the story. This book reminded me a lot of `The SERRAted Edge' series by Mercedes Lackey. `The Halfling's Court' is fun and engaging even with the perils and dangers of the road and Fae Court faced by Lance and his MC, and easily re-read many times.

A direct descendant of Alfred the Great, Charlemagne and William the Conqueror, her pedigree is second only to that of the British Royal Family. She has a great way of telling a story, and just when you think you have the plot all figured out, there's an unusual, fascinating twist to the tale! This book is exceptional and a great read for all! Keep up the excellent work Marlene, and I look forward to more stories from your creative mind!

This vicious society has captured and brutalized the woman whose voice stood for justice, then abandoned her in a California prison as useless. The author is especially skillful in her depiction of the captive’s imaginative escape from reality, an escape that maintains her sanity. Meanwhile, her partner, the sheriff in a remote area of Maine, has all but given up and is on the point of suicide when there is a knock on her door. A young woman who still holds out hope for the future persuades her to join her in search of the captive rebel. Against all odds, they set out. The author masterfully brings emotions to life. The reader literally feels the pain of the women as they experience conflicting feelings and outside dangers on their journey. The relationships become more complex when they have retrieved this damaged woman. as they work through jealousy and misunderstanding. In the end, they must together face the powers of the corrupt government and provide the spark that ignites the rebellion of the masses. A powerful book as much about three women learning to understand and trust each other as about a warped and corrupt society. I look forward to Ms. Leach's next book.

In 1795, New Orleans was a sleepy outpost at the edge of Spain's American empire. By the 1820s, it was teeming with life, its levees packed with cotton and sugar. New Orleans had become the unquestioned urban capital of the antebellum South. Looking at this remarkable period filled with ideological struggle, class politics, and powerful personalities, Building the Land of Dreams is the narrative biography of a fascinating city at the most crucial turning point in its history.

Eberhard Faber tells the vivid story of how American rule forced New Orleans through a vast transition: from the ordered colonial world of hierarchy and subordination to the fluid, unpredictable chaos of democratic capitalism. The change in authority, from imperial Spain to Jeffersonian America, transformed everything. As the city's diverse people struggled over the terms of the transition, they built the foundations of a dynamic, contentious hybrid metropolis. Faber describes the vital individuals who played a role in New Orleans history: from the wealthy creole planters who dreaded the influx of revolutionary ideas, to the American arrivistes who combined idealistic visions of a new republican society with selfish dreams of quick plantation fortunes, to Thomas Jefferson himself, whose powerful democratic vision for Louisiana eventually conflicted with his equally strong sense of realpolitik and desire to strengthen the American union.

Revealing how New Orleans was formed by America's greatest impulses and ambitions, Building the Land of Dreams is an inspired exploration of one of the world's most iconic cities.

Building the Land of Dreams: New Orleans and the Transformation of Early America, by Eberhard L. Faber

Review Winner of the 2015 Kemper and Leila Williams Prize in Louisiana History, Historic New Orleans Collection and the Louisiana Historical Association"Multicultural New Orleans maintains a mystique that stems from its unique development under governments of France, Spain, and Thomas Jefferson's U.S., argues musician-turned-history teacher Faber in this remarkable and thorough history."--Publishers Weekly"This well-researched snapshot of a brief period of the city's lengthy history richly details personalities and events, offering a valuable perspective to history students and anyone who has experienced the Crescent City's vibrant ways of life."--Library Journal

From the Back Cover

"In this brilliant book, Eberhard Faber reveals how the creole elite of colonial New Orleans adapted to American rule on their own terms. With thorough research and vivid prose, Building the Land of Dreams illuminates American expansion in exciting new ways."--Alan Taylor, author of The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia, 1772-1832

"This outstanding book takes up a large and absorbing story: Louisiana's incorporation into the American Union as a constitutional equal with other states. Faber untangles this intricate history with admirable clarity and lots of good judgment. In his sensitive hands a cast of characters ranging from Spanish dons and creole warhorses to American newcomers comes to life. Building the Land of Dreams is a fine work of distinction."--Lawrence N. Powell, Tulane University

"Imaginatively researched and elegantly written, this book puts stubborn ideas about early nineteenth-century New Orleans to rest and alters our understanding of Jeffersonian America in a significant way. It introduces readers to intriguing personalities and stories, and undertakes a new interpretation of the incorporation of New Orleans into the economy and body politic of the United States.
