I came across this by accident, and to paraphrase Charles Bukowski--you don't choose the book, the book chooses you. I am so glad I was chosen. Lewis Morris was knighted by Queen Victoria, and other than some association with Oscar Wilde, I can't find much about him.So, What is the Epic of Hades in Three Books about? Hmmm....good question. As I read it, it is a combination of Yeats' imagery, and Dante's Inferno. Though, most certainly, it is an inward Hades. This book contains some of the most beautiful passages I have ever read, although some might consider them dated. Still, turn to almost any random page and you will find something that would make most poets consider a different career.If you are looking for a late 1800's, Yeats-Lovecraft hybrid, with a dab of Dante, and Greek Mythological imagery--this might be your perfect afternoon cup of tea. I still don't know what the story is about, but I am not a plot-queen, and it's his use of words, without being verbose that I enjoy.
