About the Author Charles Treft is an elementary school principal with the Calvert County Public Schools in Maryland. Charles has been a teacher and vice principal at the elementary and high school levels. Charles's life has been centered around public service. He served his country in the USMC and his community as a deputy sheriff. Charles's motivation for writing this book was to increase his elementary students' academic achievement. Charles hopes every student Strives for Excellence so they can get really smart and achieve their goals in life.

By Bruce G Armstrong What a lovely story and such a motivator for young children!As an elementary teacher, I constantly look for ways to challenge my students to become the best they can be. This book spells out the necessary steps in becoming self-motivated learners. I love that each student signs their own pledge.What a fun surprise to learn that the characters in this story are based on real alpacas living on a farm in Maryland!
