I was a bit concerned going into this one seeing I have not read book 1 The Other Duke. As it turned out the concern was for nothing because this book does read well as a standalone.Annabelle Flynn is trying to be a respectable lady of the ton and find herself a titled husband. She feels she can pull this off now that her older brother Rafe has become a Duke. The problem is, her younger brother Crispin has been running amuck, gambling his money away, drinking excessively and starting fights at his favorite gambling hell, The Donville Masquerade. Her brother Rafe does not seem to want to help Crispin out, so Annabelle decides to take matters in her own hands and goes to the club on her own to get Crispin out of the mess he has just gotten into. While she is there she runs into Marcus Rivers, an old friend of the family but also the owner of the club. These two are attracted to each other from the start and things heat up nicely between them.I really liked both Annabelle and Marcus’s characters. Annabelle was very intelligent and an all-around great character. Marcus was sexy as hell and oh boy he had me all hot and bothered while reading the sexual encounters these two shared. The further into the book, the hotter it got.I thought the story line was good but I felt it could have been a bit more interesting. However, the ending and the epilogue were FANTASTIC! The book ended on a very good note leaving me happy with the outcome. You can bet your sweet bippy I’ll be reading book 3, The Widow Wager when it releases April 21. This is Crispin story and I NEED to find out just what is going on with him.

Don't forget that."THE STORY: Annabelle Flynn wants respectability and intends to use her brother's new dukedom and her dowry to find a titled husband. The Flynn family reputation has felt like a burden to Annabelle. The Flynns biggest problem right now is their brother Crispin who is drinking, gambling and fighting too much. Annabelle's quest to save her brother leads her to the sex and gambling club of Marcus Rivers. Marcus has wanted Annabelle for years and when she arrives at his club, he can tell that she is interested in what she sees there. The two end up agreeing to explore Annabelle's sexuality and yet leave her a virgin for marriage. Things become complicated, however, because Annabelle realizes that the title men she thinks she wants pale in comparison with Marcus.OPINION: I really liked the character of Marcus in this book. He is a self-made man who runs a naughty club and yet isn't really a dark character. He is actually very sweet. He has wanted Annabelle for a long time but believes that he is not good enough for her. When the two enter their bargain, Marcus knows that it can only be temporary.Annabelle is a strong woman with deep desires who has made the mistake of thinking that respectability is all she needs in life -- not love and not desire. She takes control of her sexuality. I was especially interested in the fact that she refuses to adhere to stereotypical roles for women all her life. She is educated and when she finds Marcus who appreciates her knowledge, she is seduced by his acceptance of her.Unsurprisingly because this book takes place in a sex club, there are some pretty hot sex scenes. The emphasis, however, remains on the relationship between Marcus and Annabelle. I think my favorite part of the book is when they are discussing the accounting books of the club. That is where the sexiest part of their relationship is born because they both desperately yearn for someone to accept them.My only complaint is that I felt that Annabelle too quickly jumped into a sexual relationship with Marcus. The transition felt a little jarring which diminished my overall enjoyment of the book a little.Readers also get a glimpse of Crispin Flynn's problems in preparation for his book which will be the third book of the series.WORTH MENTIONING: Fans of THE OTHER DUKE will be happy to see Rafe and Serafina enjoying their happy ending.FINAL DECISION: I liked the characters in this book and I am especially partial to good guy scoundrels. The book is hot. My only complaint is that the relationship between Annabelle and Marcus too quickly becomes sexual and I felt that it was jarring.CONNECTED BOOKS: THE SCOUNDREL'S LOVER is the second book in The Notorious Flynns series. This book can be read as a standalone although the couple from the first book makes an appearance here.STAR RATING: I give this book 4.25 stars.NOTE: I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in order to provide an honest review of the book. The Scoundrel's Lover By Farrah A lovely romance and a wonderful continuation of the Notorious Flynns series, The Scoundrel's Lover was an enjoyable read. With passionate characters and a great story, this book was great and I liked it.Annabelle was a heroine who definitely had a will of her own. When she decided she wanted something, she went after it with everything in her. Sometimes, that was annoying, like with her insistence that she wanted to marry a proper husband rather than a man she would be happy with. It was annoying that she kept complaining about how she had to want the man she couldn't have when the only reason she couldn't have him was because she was set on a proper marriage. But, when she finally realized the mistake she made, she went after love and made amends for unintentionally hurting Marcus. So, in the end, I was fine with her.Marcus was amazing. He was definitely a survivor who had made something of himself that he could be proud of. He was protective and caring of Annabelle and just absolutely adorable in general. I just loved him.The romance was great. It was obvious that Annabelle and Marcus cared about each other from the start and it didn't take long for that to become love. Annabelle's issues made it a bit frustrating at some points, but I still liked them together. And the chemistry between them was super hot with scenes steamy enough to make you fan your face.The plot was fast paced and I was able to stay interested all the way through. Other than my issue with Annabelle, I really liked the story and the ending was great. I'm excited to read Crispin's story in the next book.The Scoundrel's Lover was a really lovely romance and I liked it. Romance lovers, this is a book worth checking out.*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
