Fogarty I have been a Pre-k teacher and children's literature fan for over 14 years. So when my eyes saw the colorful pictures of the magic gardenin Paulina and the Picky Princess and The Magic Garden... I was hooked. Most mothers spend a few years struggling with their children to eat some vegetables, often it is a battle. This book weaves the fantasy of fairies, and goblins ( who incidentally happen to look like cookies, soda cans, and potato chips) with a girl who wants to help save the garden by having to eat and try vegetables. It's a great way to get get children to see vegetables in a NEW night. Perfect for any teacher, babysitter, mother or librarian.

It is a fast-moving and exciting adventure which is to me like a 21st century" Alice in Wonderland". Paulina's change of opinion regarding vegetables is reasonable and cautious as reality would have it instead of coming about so quickly that one would forget the whole matter being discussed. Abby's love for children and for nutrition as well as for manners between children and parents and others is apparent throughout her adorable story. Many families could be changed by this book which causes the focus to be placed on "Just try each one and see if you agree with Paulina." instead of "I think that I might just die if I should try one of these!". Great Book to Inspire Healthy Eating in Young Children By Seibel13 A beautiful story that took me back to a time when my kids were young I used similar strategies to get them to eat their fruits and veggies. Our magic garden included colorful carrots and purple beans that "magically" turned to green beans when they were cooked. I encourage any parent who has picky eaters to use this story to open their minds to the magic that real food has to offer and then help them make their own discoveries by growing their own "magic garden". The illustrations add so much to the story and it's sure to be a favorite! Spring time is a perfect time to start reading this story to young kids.
