What if youth wasn't wasted on the young? On the eve of his fortieth birthday, Ian Parker is looking for a reboot. He may be the proud owner of a trendy coffee shop in Austin called La Tazza Magica, but his love life has been MIA for years. During a trip to Denver with his best friend, Mark, Ian buys an enchanted chocolate from a mysterious candy store—then wakes up from a nap two decades younger. After the initial shock, Ian realizes a quirk of the universe has given him a second chance and, with Mark’s help, he devises a plan to start over. With a new lease on life, Ian sets his sights on handsome architect Bartley James, a regular customer at La Tazza. He pursues Bartley as Ian’s twenty-one-year-old alter ego, Ryan, with decidedly unexpected results. Joining Ryan on his adventures are Matthew, the dreamy new barista, Jeremy, the geeky high-school math teacher, and Sam, the pizza delivery boy. Even as misunderstandings and expectations collide, Ian remains determined to right his past mistakes and find his off-ramp to happiness.

Turn Back Time By Toby Johnson Yes is a delightful little novel about the fantasy of recapturing one's youth and getting to do life over again, knowing what one knows now. This is a familiar storyline. It's one of the memes of pop wisdom from It's a Wonderful Life and The Wizard of Oz to Big and all those movies about adults somehow switching bodies with teenagers. It's always interesting to see how a new storyteller will present the possibility of turning back time and then somehow resolving the complications that follow. Brad Boney's character, 40 year old Ian, on a trip to pot-friendly Colorado, eats a psychedelic candy and wakes up twenty. How is he going to replace himself in his world? He has to become his own nephew to explain his youth and pretend that the 40 year old him has been called away for a family emergency. The novel is light-hearted and humorous, so Ian's impersonating himself plays out with lots of entertaining complications. Not least of which are how many times this randy forty year old in a sexy twenty year old body falls in love as he realizes he's really in love with somebody else and, for reasons that turn out profound and poignant, needs to go home to his own life. Brad Boney's novels are set in current day Austin, Texas. As an Austinite myself, I certainly enjoyed the references to real places in this magical town in the heart of Texas. With lots of references to pop music and culture, smartphones and gay internet porn stars, Yes is a fun read and an appealing romp into the wisdom of the ages—which always comes down to this: you gotta say yes.Reviewed by Toby Johnson, author of Secret Matter, Getting Life in Perspective and other novels and books

I have found myself completely head over heels for all of Boney's books. Although Boney's books are not advertised as a series, it is highly recommended to read the books in order of release date for the most enjoyment.I love the fact that in each consecutive new book, Boney throws in characters from previous stories. It is a nice way to see some familiar faces and catch up on their lives. Plus, it makes it easier on the reader to keep track of the characters without having 10 new people to meet each book.Boney is a master at dialogue. His conversations between characters flow so freely and effortlessly. You lose yourself, and it feels like you are literally listening to two people talk. It's a skill to be able to construct such natural conversations between characters without jolting the reader with a word choice or description. Now with all that being said about Boney's writing style, "Yes" is a wonderful addition to his series. "Yes" is a book that encompasses time-jumping and the old adage "if you could go back in time to change anything, would you?" The book follows nearly 40 year-old Ian and his crush on Bratley James, a customer from Ian's coffee shop. Ian gets the unexpected opportunity to go back in time and basically get a do-over, waking up as his 21 year old self. Grasping the opportunity with both hands, Ian finds himself pursuing Bratley as Ryan, his younger, alter ego. Despite Ian having this chance, things certainly do not work out quite as he planned and Ian must enlist the help of his best friend Mark and The Walsh brothers to set it right. While the book has a lot of happy, light-hearted and funny moments between characters, there are some heavy themes and real life issues and insecurities each guy must deal and come to grips with. I absolutely loved Ian and Bratley. Not to mention, we meet awkward and nerdy Sam and Jeremy. I cannot wait to read their story! They were certainly some charming addition.Overall "Yes" is another great book from a well established author. Boney is an automatic buy for me. Pick up this book! You won't regret it.

Be careful what you wish for By JEFFERY WEBER Ian Parker, owner of an Austin, Texas coffee shop, La Tazza Magica (The magic cup) is about to turn forty. His best friend Mark is taking him to Denver to celebrate his birthday. There he purchases an expensive chocolate kiss “made with Manick Butter” an anagram for “turn back time”. What follows are the adventures of Ian upon his return to Austin. There is a lot about older younger men dynamics. There is a lot of confusion about who people are and what they seek in a relationship. Many of the characters are either stereotypes or shallow. I found it difficult to care about the people or the story although it had a satisfying conclusion.
