By Barbara Mojica Anancy is depicted in West Indian and Caribbean folklore as a god who is a trickster often taking the form of a spider or man. In this folktale, Anancy is taking a walk on Easter morning searching for an Easter egg hunt. After a while, he becomes tired and hungry so he stops at Brer Rabbit's tavern where the only thing on the menu is eggs. He consumes six poached eggs, but then cannot find money to pay for them and promises to return to pay his debt.Six years later, Brer Anancy returns with the six cents owed. Brer Rabbit informs him that the tab now amounts to sixty dollars! Anancy is outraged. Brer Rabbit brings him before the judge, Brer Tiger. Anancy's son, Brer N'tukuma appears with a bundle under his arms that turns out to be a factor for the judge's decision as well as why Easter eggs are cooked and colored from that point forward. Highly recommended for children age six and up as a funny variation of the Easter egg story.
