By Amazon Customer Blending high-school life with Greek Mythology, Timothy McClendon creates an enjoyable romp that takes us into the suddenly chaotic life of Danny Neumann, a normal teenager who wants nothing more than to win the heart of Becky, his long-time friend, who has taken up with his former best friend Kevin, now the school bully. But dark forces are gathering, and when a dark stranger knocks on Danny's door with the purpose of ending his life, Danny discovers that he has powers unlike any other. Wielding the power of a demigod, Danny must quickly learn to hold his own against a gauntlet of baddies from Greek mythology that seem to be lurking around every corner. The action is decent, and the imagery isn't too scary, so I think kids and preteens might get a kick out of Last Hero. It is a little far-fetched and silly in places, so for that reason I don't think adults would enjoy it quite as much.A fast read, and an enjoyable one.

By Howard Lipman This is a young adult adventure that can be appreciated by anyone of any age, especially if they are interested in Greek Legends and Mythology. A modern group of teenagers, including our hero, Danny, are suddenly caught up in a fantasy that has characters, like Mr. Griffin, the Janitor, the teachers, Ms. Lam (Lamia), Ms. Spin (The Greek Sphinx) and an assortment of Greek Monsters, and residents of Olympus (Zeus) suddenly endowing the teenagers with comic book like powers, or creating dark confrontations. It's a unique, imaginative idea and the author Timothy McLendon pulls it off in this well written fast-paced adventure. This is a page turner with surprising twists and turns. The Author's thorough knowledge of Ancient Greece and the lively plot made this reader want more. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fast paced, modern mythology By Avid Amazon Fan Fast paced, reminiscent of Rick Riordan's Lightning Thief, though aimed at a slightly older audience. McLendon seems to be aiming for the young adult/new adult crowd. There are high levels of teenager angst in the story, and a bit much for my taste (purely a taste thing.) At times the dialogue is a tad stilted, especially early on in the story. Those are the reasons I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. But don't let that dissuade you.The further the story goes, the deeper the world building becomes. That's the great part about blending mythology with the modern day world, and McLendon does that well. The main character, Danny Neuman, has plenty of enemies and obstacles to overcome. And the world he lives it grows more and more complex with each turn of the page. That's what kept me going, and I'm glad I did.
