By Benson A well-worded fantasy book with cool characters and illustrationsAt first this felt like a children’s book with the talking trees and illustrations that a child (or anyone else who enjoys fantasy drawings) would enjoy but I soon began to see that this was more like a grown-up fairy tale. The vocabulary gets pretty fancy at times (to where I even had to look up some words) but it did seem like the words were very carefully chosen.I would call the style eccentric from an earlier time period in history, very similar to Narnia or the Hobbit. The main characters came alive for me and while reading I felt many emotions. Some parts were sad, like when Old Oak lost his son to the lumberjacks. Other parts I felt angry at the villains who were hurting others or destroying the forest.But it is more than just a fantasy adventure story because it has many great lessons, like when Willow has to decide whether to help a mean boy who is hurt. Apparently he was taught well by his mother because he makes the right decision. He also has other great teachers in his life, like the Old Man Oak tree and the ball of White Light that comes to visit him.Some parts of the book stood out like speeches or sermons but I didn’t feel it detracted from the whimsical feel. In fact, I think it added an air of spirituality and I really enjoyed when Old Oak spoke. His words were almost like rhyming song lyrics. Overall the book has a very uplifting and positive message and you see how everything is connected in the world, like how it comes full circle in the end.I would highly recommend Willow and Teardrop Forest to anyone who enjoys fairy tales or fantasies or just a well-worded book that makes you think and feel. If you can judge by the cover, the other illustrations are just as fantastic and creative, and it’s best if you can see them all in color (especially the flying eyeballs).

A Serious and Substantial Piece of Work -- Not Just For Children By William Kohn The energy and professionalism that it takes to produce a serious and substantial piece of work is immediately evident in Willow and The Teardrop Forest. The wording is excellent, as is the sentence structure, flow and rhythm. The tone is very consistent and most appropriate for the subject, which creates the right atmosphere and mood that brings to life this "fantasy" world of thinking, feeling and talking trees.The story does indeed have movement, which is particularly impressive when you consider that the main characters were rooted in place and did not/could not move. They never "went anywhere." But their thoughts did, and those thoughts nicely managed to take the reader along for an enjoyable ride.Nature good/Humans bad would be the dominant "theme." Obviously, the humans could move and take actions, and when they did it was always harsh and detrimental to the forest. And, because the trees were able to "counter-attack" with their tears they were victorious in the end, with mankind having been humbled by the power of Nature.All told, the story unfolded very well; I can hear an adult smoothly reading it to a child. And although it certainly works as a children's book, especially with the illustrations, I believe all ages would appreciate its message. And like all good works, the whole of the book is greater than the sum of its parts. – William Kohn
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. fairytale fable in the form a horticultural animal farm By Max this is a fairytale fable in the form a horticultural animal farm - fortunately not as topical, but just as clever in it's subtleties when approaching politics and ethics. children would easily enjoy the story of the magical forest, while also learning the moral responsibility humans have with nature. the otherworldly illustrations are a beautiful accompaniment incredibly useful for sparking the readers imagination.
